I'm hesitant to post this since VMB is a friendly political free website (and I love that by the way.)
    but here it goes:

Steve Wynn was interviewed by Stanford's Hoover Institution in his villa.

Caution: Hoover is mostly right political talk but the Wynn interview is the most recent on top and is supposed to be about his life and the casino business.

I'll try to post the direct link just to see if it sticks:

Good stuff. Thanks for posting.

The man knows what he's doing, no doubt. But damn, talk about getting by with a little help from your friends.

I like his comment about the resort making the location and not the other way around. You know that Nazarian shyster is praying it's true. :evillaugh

awesome....very good stuff. probably the 10th time i've told my wife these stories about Wynn, she just nods her head and keeps watching Orange is the New Black. Is there a link to part 2?

    Thanks for posting!

    Excellent video.

Steve Wynn is one of the most fascinating people to me because of how he's grown Vegas. I mean..everything he's touched has been golden. Has he even had any bad deals or things that haven't worked out?

I have always admired the casino/hotel business and if I could go back and hit the reset button I'd have majored in finance and hotels and pursued that.

Hahaha! My girlfriend is watching it now on Netflix...she looks at me and says "more Vegas stuff? I think you're addicted".

Great stuff, looking forward to part 2.

There's a great scene in Rain Man when Tom and Dustin approach Caesars and you get a quick glimpse of the construction of Mirage in the background. Steve Wynn knew that Vegas needed to reinvent itself from being a sawdust on the floor type joints to entertainment centers lined in marble. He knew that a property needed something to entertain the masses on the outside in order to get you inside. The Mirage, Treasure Island, and Bellagio did just that.
Vegas needed a kick in the butt in the late 80's and he gave it to them.

I too find Steve Wynn fascinating. Great story out here from 2 years ago. Steve Wynn came to Carson City and made an unplanned trip at the start of Legislature. His aides scheduled impromptu meetings with leadership from both parties and houses (Senate & Assembly). Of course, most were more than happy to make time for Steve and "kiss the ring", so to speak, except one of the last meetings was with our new female Speaker of the House, This was her first session as Speaker and many were "wondering" about her "capabilities". She's a very plain spoken, hard-working individual from N. Las Vegas and works for a food sales company in her day job (i.e.: not someone of means by any stretch).

Word has it that about 5 minutes into the meeting, when Mr Wynn was clearly there to only to deliver instructions and not engage in and type of conversation, she got up, declared the meeting over and left the room!!! I doubt many, except George Clooney, have done such a thing in recent years to old Steve.

He has, but he's always been able to get out of it and create something new and amazing.

I don't think so. She doesn't get my over the top love for Philadelphia sports either. "OMG babe we just signed/traded for xxxxxx"

Who?! she says as she rolls her eyes...

I mean she loves Vegas and all but it has a point where it becomes too much. We went four times in five months when we first started going. Now? she uses her vacation time to visit family or when we go to other places. I'm cool with that because she's cool with my obsession with going to Vegas!

Steve is / was a brilliant business man, but damn he is not aging well. He is really physically going downhill fast. He looks like he aged 20 years in the last five.
I like how he emphasizes how lucky his timing was and his banking relationship which really helped his success.
