New to VMB and recently got hooked on VP. Read several TR where the reporter mentions the amount of $$ they have played at each casino ($5-7K here; $2-3K there, etc.). I am assuming this is the amount of $$ they have RISKED with the 1000's of hands played (since they didn't actually lose the reported amounts). How does one obtain this information? Is this something you have to ask each casino or am I missing something that the VP machine can tell me (i.e. tracking my accumulation of points=$$ risked ???). Probably a dumb question but I would like to fully understand what I am risking vs. the payback. Thanks. MK

Easiest way you can do it at the machine is to use a players club card: find out how much play through earns a point (you can either ask or just put your card in and start playing and watch the meter to figure it out) and then at the end of your session you will see how many points you have.

At the Total Rewards casinos, as an example, its 1 point for each $10 played through... so if you play for a couple of hours and have 300 points then you can deduce that you put $3000 through the machine.

Yep, use your player's card to keep track.

One other example, for downtown Main Street Station, California, and maybe the Fremont .....
Whenever you insert your B-Connected player's card, the little read-out screen will give you your "bonus points" total (comp points), but it will also show you your "general" overall point total ($1 coin-in = 1 point). So, if at the start of the day, your overall total is 1250, and at the end of the day you check it again, and it then reads 3575 ... then you have "cycled & recycled" $2325 coin-in for that day.

As has been mentioned, use the points you accumulate to figure out your coin in.

It is not a dumb question at all. “Coin In” is one of the most important factors the casino looks at when determining what comps you “deserve”. Actual losses are irrelevant unless you get up into five figures (or at least very high four figures). So, if you know what your coin in is, you can have a better idea about how stingy/generous a casino is being with you regarding comps.

Not at all casinos is "coin in" a factor.

Here is a reply I received from the director of player development at Suncoast after I complained about a stay earlier this year. It was our first time staying there and I said we would give them 45-50k over our four days. Our host assured us, several times in fact, that 45- 50k over 4 days, he would have no problem covering our meals. btw, our food total averaged $74 per day and on checkout he would only cover $200. Obviously the host lied to me. So I complained to his boss.

I spoke with X and looked at your play for your last trip. I do see your coin in being around the 47k number but we don’t comp on coin in. Our comps are strictly based off of theoretical or loss whichever is greater for the customer. Suncoast does not have the same comp expense as the downtown properties (room cost, food cost, transportation etc….) therefore what you may get at Main Street will be more than what you would qualify here at the Suncoast. I’m sorry for the confusion but I can’t offer any more than the amount that was quoted by X. If you have any further questions please e-mail or call me.

Last time I would ever stay there.

I think I remember you mentioning that a few trips back…pretty shitty of them to renege on you like that. I notice your countdown timers are all MSS now!

Your point is a good one – coin in isn’t the only factor. But I’d still argue it’s one of the most important, as you can’t figure theo without coin in.

Back to MSS home, with the limo, suite and Gold Card. Screw Suncoast! The reason we went to Suncoast was the threat of picketing and a strike downtown. All has been settled.

I tried talking my wife into an August trip, thinking after her 3 Royal trip in June, she'd be interested, but no luck. Oct. seems so far away.

Whenever I read about coin in the next question in my mind is what kind of bankroll do I need to get that coin in. For some reason I just get confused with it.

It partially depends on which game you play as not all VP is created equal. If you're a fiend for Double Double Bonus or Triple Double Bonus you're going to need a bigger bankroll in order to ride through some negative variance as those sweet quad payouts come with a price of extreme volatility. If you play JoB or Bonus Poker they don't swing nearly as much but your quad payouts are much lower. And of course multi-hand play amps it up too.

MSS comps based off of "Theo" also...it just takes LESS "Theo" because it's not the same Tier Property (Comparing Suncoast vs MSS; is like Bellagio vs NyNy)

    Few points.

Coin in is still very important. 23k vs 46k coin in on the same machine will be half the theo. V/P does have less theo than slots,so if the host thought you were doing regular slots vs V/P - well, you see what happens.

As to how much money you need to hit certain coin in levels - you might be able to find some statistical number, but that will not help. You could start with $10 in cash and hit 10k coin in with the right play. (hit a big handpay and keep playing). You could also start with $1,000 and get only $1,000 coin in. (no wins at all, and go broke)
