Table Games Whiskey Down @ MGM

Whiskey Down wasn't open the last time I stayed at MGM and I never got around to checking it out on later trips.

What are the blackjack conditions like? Is it all shoes games or is there any DD?

How is the vibe? Is it loud and packed? How does it compare to the vibe in the Mansion?

I'm assuming their specialty cocktails and scotches are comped for players even betting around table min? (save for the really expensive stuff)

I want to play for a while in either there or the Mansion. I know the table mins will be higher than the good games on the main floor, but of those two rooms which one do you enjoy more?

 

Mansion, not even close.

 

KC, I played quite a bit in there this past April. The BJ games are DD and shoe. Good BJ rules, same as the mansion. The minimums were $50 during the day and went up to $100 in the evenings. It might have been $100 all day on the weekends. I can't recall. It is definitely louder. There are numerous TVs in there. Some were tuned to sports and others were playing music. The music seemed to run in blocks from different time periods. I recall one day there was a lot of sixties music and another day a lot of nineties music. I kind of enjoyed it. The music doesn't bother me at all and I liked having a lot more TVs to watch games I had wagered on. The tables were not packed. Usually there were one or two players at each table.

I don't recall what the policy was on drinks. The servers were very attentive, which makes sense since there is a bar and dedicated servers for the lounge just a few feet away. They took very good care of me. I never saw any drunks passed out, as suggested above. In the late afternoons and evenings there were plenty of groups hanging out in there an not gambling, but it wasn't really attracting crowds of large drunks (probably because the drinks are cheaper at other bars close by). Mostly it looked like groups of people preparing to go out or having before or after drinks.

 

I thought the place was okay. When I was there it was pretty dead though - just me and a few other gamblers. Dealers and pit bosses were friendly. Typical good MGM HL rules - DD and shoe. When I was there, everything was $100.

The only issue I had was the music. It was way too loud and pretty terrible (typical bubblegum and awful hip hop that has become the de facto pop music these days) from what I remember.

When I went, the place had just opened and I had no idea what it was - I just wandered in to check it out. So the name of the place didn't even register with me...I think I ordered a gin and tonic. Shame too because I do enjoy whiskeys...hope someone else can help you with that info. I do remember CW service was outstanding.

The straight scotches, etc. range in price but the cocktails are all $10 which seems pretty cheap. But it would be nice to order them comped while playing. The fact that it sounds easier to find a table with other people playing is good too. I don't like playing heads up, its too much excitement for me! The few times I've walked through the Mansion the tables were either empty or had 1 person on playing thousands per hand who I figured wanted to play alone.

 

In comparison to the Mansion, there were definitely more people playing BJ at WD (not that either one was overrun with BJ players, lol). I agree about the number of players in the mansion. Never more than a couple of BJ players. Bac, it's a different story. The WD mins are always lower than the Mansion and when I was there, always a notch higher than the good tables on the main floor

 

u wont find to many people playing in there, so it might be heads up most of the time, but yes quick drink service is a plus and restrooms are right inside there

 

Can anyone shed any light on the video poker there? Is it $1 and up, or do they also offer $0.25? I really enjoy whiskey and bourbon, and I was thinking of giving them some play if they have $0.25 games and would comp me playing max coin. Details on paytables would be nice also, if anyone has them.. TIA

 

This place sounds interesting. And the drink menu is enticing. The Tropical Dew drink sounds delicious.

And are those Macallen prices per...glass??

 

The music was so loud in there I couldn't have a conversation with the person sitting next to me. Apparently it takes an executive level act to get it turned down to a reasonable level. I ran back to the Mansion pretty quickly.

 

I know the VP there exists and I believe they have 25 cent denomination. Didn't play myself so can't tell you more than that.

 

That is a deal breaker for me. I love music but when I have to scream to the person next to me or need a bullhorn to talk to the dealer then I'm out.

But I still want one of those drinks.

 

when i was there it was over bearing but im deaf so i cant hear ,it was just a normal casino bar with music and tv nothing over bearing or it would bleed out to the rest of the casino as its an open space
