I'm TR Platinum. When I log in to my TR account, it'll typically show me comps at places like Harrah's or Quad/Linq. When I look at Caesars, they typically want $99 for the Roman Tower (pass) and like $149 for Augustus.

And then I think, "Geez, that's pretty fair for an amazing Augustus Tower room. It'd only be like $500 for a long weekend, even with taxes thrown in. I got a free flight through SWA, so is the $500 really so bad?" And then I think, "But there are so many awesome things to do with $500 in Vegas besides sleep in a nicer bed! Plus, if I lose a bunch gambling, I'm gonna be even more ticked that I blew hundreds on a room when I could have spent nothing at all."

So when push comes to shove, I don't surrender the free mediocre room. I sometimes gamble at other casinos (I live in DC, and sometimes go to AC and will visit the Baltimore property when it's ready) and then log back in to see if my ADT has helped me get better free rooms/cheaper Caesar's rooms. But typically, I just take what's comped, try a $20 trick on check in to get a high floor Strip View or something like that.

    How about you?

I take the comps, generally, unless the only things comped are Quad and Rio. I don't want to stay off strip nor stay at Quad, at least til rooms get remodeled. I usually get offered comp at Quad, Harrahs, Bally's, and Rio for any day of the week, and very low rates weeknd and comp weekday at Paris, Pho. Then we have higher rates at Caesars and Cromwell. For our upcoming trip we decided to forego completely free at Bally's or Harrah's for $40 total for 3 nights at Pho. That's not much difference in cost. To stay at Caesars in their lowest room would have been about $120 total, which isn't worth it to me, especially since I kind of dislike Caesars in general.

I usually won’t pay for a nicer room (if one I find perfectly acceptable is free). But I will usually go for the nicest room that I can get comped, knowing that the higher comp value of that room will mean I’ll get less food and beverage taken off my bill on the back end.

I realize that there is no difference between these two scenarios. :rolleyes2: But who wants to be rational all the time? It's Vegas, after all!

Since we are only in our room to sleep a few hours & shower, comped always wins.

THAT BEING SAID--I have scored the Wynn for March Madness when they offered me enough resort comps that made the price essentially the same as Ballys; and Cosmo had an amazing deal Black Friday 2012 that offered the Wrap Terrace with comps equal to what I paid. I figure we have to eat/drink anyway...was nice to try 2 properties I wouldn't otherwise stay at. Wynn was fine, but location stinks. Palace Tower room at Caesars is nicer with better location. LOVED Cosmo & I WILL stay there again--just need to find the right deal.

Until then, those comped CET rooms fit the budget well

Same with me. I can get a free Red Room at Paris which is good enough. I wouldn't pay the reduced rates I can get at Caesars.

For some reason the idea of paying for a room in Vegas just feels wrong to me. Its kind of like going to a private club on a day pass....sure they'll let me in for a price but I'm not really a member.

I often get Caesars and Paris comped. I would take Paris.

Caesars is not that great. Yea, those rooms are nicer, but by how much?

Before my 18mo Vegas hiatus I was getting free rooms at the CET properties and I took advantage of rooms at Bally's (pre-remodel) and Harrah's and both were acceptable places to stay. Although I even after I booked those places I would always check the prices at Mirage, Aria and V/P and told myself if I found rates that I believed to be fair I would have switched and paid.

However if I was on a free flight and had to pay $500 for rooms I'd do it and justify the cost by saying flights are normally $500+ so either way I'd pay that amount.

Hypothetically speaking if I had an offer show up right now for somewhere like Harrah's, Flamingo, Excal, Quad, etc I would probably pay to stay somewhere else.

When push comes to shove and I don't really care for my comp offers, I see what other companies can do for me. I don't stretch to make CP work but I am over settling for Flamingo and the former IP.

I always have a car and always play all around town. Comp always wins for me. I'll stay free at Silverton before paying for a player's rate room on the Strip…and I have. Lord knows, I hate the Silverton rooms but free is free.

They are remodeling and the pix looked nice. Give 'em another shot. I've been on the fence about the Silverton but I may take them up on free rooms next time around based on what I saw.

I just went through this. If its free its for me! We just booked a trip in September, and the comp days fell just right for once. For 6 days it was almost the same price for a Forum Tower room at Caesars as it was for a Jubilee room at Bally's. Five free nights at both and had to pay for one. The extra night at Bally's was $160 and at Caesars it was $127. With higher resort fees at Caesars, it was almost the same amount either way. I much prefer Caesars pool, so it was a no brainer. Due to family issues, I have not been to Vegas in a solid year, and I can't wait!!!!! Unfortunately I lost my platinum status from not going out, so I have to pay the resort fee. Grrrrrr. Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone had any luck getting them waived as a gold card holder, since I wont use the wifi or the gym anyway.

i go for free, but, don't like mediocre free rooms!
If you take the $500 you would have spent and went off property to a resort with great rooms, like Cosmo or Venetian, and put it through their machines, it would likely end up giving you some offers. I too am platinum at CET and get very similar offers to what you describe. it seems easy to get the lower end rooms, but I'm surprised at how hard it is to get comp the higher stuff at Caesars. I continue to give CET a good chunk of my time, but do give some time at the other places just for their rooms. So far, this has worked for me!

    FREEEEEEEEEDOM!!!!

    Sorry, i'm a Bravehart fan.

I go solo so comp me away. In the last 3 years (including this year), i have been comped a total of 45 days. If the LinQ offers me comped dates in 2015,(which i do expect), i will gladly reside in the LinQ. Those new rooms look great.

No need for a suite, generally the view is NBD, just a nice room, TYVM.

I always take the comped room or I go to the total opposite end of the spectrum and get a Cosmo terrace suite for $240/night. If I'm going to pay it better be worth it.

The comped room also includes any resort fee too, so that's additional savings. The advantage of PAYING for a room in say the Cosmo, Encore or Venetian is that the rooms are out of this world, and I'm also not obligated to gamble at the establishment like I am when getting a comped room, so in reality the cost is the same because my gaming budget would be about $250 less a day when staying at the Cosmo and fill my day with pool, shopping, wandering, and just a little gaming.

We almost always split time between props, and really jam 10 hours or more a day when I'm at the comped (and cheaper gaming) property, get my fill, then enjoy less gaming and more vacationing when we move to the paid room.

We take comped room over paid room  We aren't in the room much anyhow so why pay for it if you can get it for free?
