I am having a tough time deciding between these two for a trip in September. Gold coast is older but near Palms and Rio. Pool is bad. Easier to get to the strip via shuttle or go over to rio to catch shuttle to Harrah's or Bally's. I have not been to las vegas in 4 years so would like to see some of the changes on the strip.

Orleans is newer with larger rooms and a good pool area. It is somewhat isolated with shuttle only to Bally's or Gold coast. I looked at some recent reviews and Gold coast seems to get better reviews for rooms in past few months. Seems like Orleans has better food choices than Gold Coast too.

I would appreciate some responses from people who have been to either one recentlyThanks,

I think you'll like the rooms at Gold Coast. They're not large, but are newly renovated and inviting.
I'd pick Gold Coast because it's close to the Route 202 city bus which will drop you off right at center strip so you can see the changes you want to see on the strip.

If pool is important then go with Orleans otherwise Gold Coast for the reasons you mentioned. Gold Coast has been my home casino for some time so I'm biased.

Did I mention I never win at Orleans?

All your points above are spot on. My wife and I prefer Orleans over GC. GC only has 4 elevators and if the casino is has a lot of people staying at it, catching a free elevator can be a hassle depending on the time of day. One time when we were there it took us 15 minutes to get from our room to the casino floor. We had the same issue going back to our room. I am not saying that this would happen every time, but could be something to think about. Also, some of the rooms bathroom showers are designed poorly. They are newer but when they designed them, they have glass on the shower half and then no door. Water runs on the floor and soaks the mat. Not all the rooms have these new showers though. Orleans has one of the towers that have updated rooms but you will get charged more for.
I do like the location of GC in reference to the Palms. Really good VP at both the GC and Palms if you are a VP player. Remember, the shuttle from Orleans will take you to the strip eventually. Sorry I guess I cant be decisive either!

    Either isn't a bad choice...
GC has some newly renovated rooms, and is next to Palms and Rio, and has easy access to the Strip.
Orleans has a better "vibe", but is pretty isolated.
If you have a car, GC, if not, Orleans.
If Orleans comped better and/or a host would respond to me, I might make it my home property...

I've stayed at both properties over the last few months and I have no complaints about either. Gold Coast used to be a little sketchier than the Orleans but they have improved things a bit. Rooms are recently renovated. The Orleans/Gold Coast Shuttle stops at both properties + the strip on the north side of Ballys. If I had to choose I would probably pick the Gold Coast. A little less time on the shuttle + I really like the Palms so being within walking distance is a definite plus once the shuttle quits running late at night.

I like Gold Coast a bit better. The rooms and the casino are smaller but I think that's why I like it better. I am not a pool person so that doesn't matter as much to me but Orleans does have the kind of pool that someone who is into a relaxed scene would like. Orleans had too much hustle and bustle going on. Coming off the elevator, it always felt like there were mobs of people around. The Orleans casino was brutal to me for most of the trip, too. The only real knock on the Gold Coast for me was there not being a real coffee shop/cafe type restaurant. I guess that's the role TGI Fridays was supposed to fill but it doesn't for me. And the lack of a safe is another negative but I was able to maneuver okay without it.

As previously discussed they both have their merits.

IMO I would pick gold coast over orleans simply because I HAVE stayed at GC. I haven't stayed at Orleans but I've been in one of the rooms there for a party. The location of the Orleans is basically nowheresville. While there is a shuttle that shuttle doesn't run 24 hours a day right? So certain hours you're going to be restricted to that property only. With GC both the Rio and The Palms are in walking distance. You're on the 202 which is a 24 hour bus route that can take you to the strip. Paradise and flamingo for Tuscany/Silver 7s/Hardrock...etc. etc.

Overall GC's rooms and location make it a better option than the Orleans for me.

definitely the orleans. newly refurbished rooms are very nice. however, the original rooms as fine as well. lots of choices at the orleans for food, slots, entertainment...also shuttle will take you to the strip. we just stayed in may and weren't charged extra, although they have raised the resort fee to i think it was around $9.

I've stayed at the Orleans and GC numerous times, end up playing in both regardless where I'm staying, and always go with the better offer or comp. As already mentioned, if you intend to go to the Palms or Rio or ride the 202, then GC is more convenient. If you intend to ride the 201, then the Orleans is more convenient. And while the GC doesn't have a coffee shop, Friday's is open for breakfast there. You can't go wrong with either.

I like both with Orleans having better food choices and pool. Gold Coast with it's location near Rio and Palms is ideal for those who dont want to travel to the strip. As for rooms both are on the same level of quality. Our last trip to Orleans this past May we talked to many people who were taking advantage of 2 or 3 day comp deals and then booking the strip before or after their stays.

How are deluxe rooms at GC? Should I upgrade to premium? Someone mentioned a shuttle from palms to Caesars is available too?

I've stayed at Orleans over 300 nights in the past 15 years. Better overall restaurant choices and McMullins Irish Pub next door. I've also had over 40 hand pays there as well. My first four royal flushes were there, all one night so it's been a favorite for years.

That being said the rooms need renovation, badly. They are tired. Just stayed at the Gold Coast in May and while the room was smaller than Orleans it was fresh and clean. Comments about the elevators noted and agreed, wish they had more. The GC East side garage is a dungeon and I saw some sketchy activity late night. Avoid it unless you carry concealed. Gold Coast has better Chinese. Both have awful buffets, terrible Fridays restaurants, great bowling. Orleans has the better food court and best steak house - Canal Street. All subjective opinions of course!

I am back at the Orleans for week long visits in September and October. In December I split a two week visit between GC and the Orleans.

I have not been able to tell the difference between the deluxe and premium rooms.

I stayed in a deluxe in February, and a premium in May. They seemed the same to me.

I like the little triad of Gold Coast, Rio and Palms. Lots of coupons and deals to be had for those 3 still. Is Rio (cuz they have a nice pool) that much more expensive for your dates or you're trying to use Boyd comps?

I agree with what everyone has said except I don't think both buffets are awful. I like The Orleans buffet better than Gold Coast but both are about the same for breakfast. My problem with The Orleans as of late is the scent they now pump into the casino. It can be strong at times and hangs on to your clothing even after you leave. I would rather smell natural casino funk than trying to mask it over with vanilla, coconut, perfume scents.

I stayed at the Orleans in May and the refurbished rooms are fabulous. I liked the old rooms but the new rooms are even better than before. I had good luck on the slots while there although I am not a big gambler. I will say that I had 2 comped days and my husband had 2 comped days. I visited my casino host before leaving and he comped the rest of my trip along with the food and we didn't owe a penny. I love the Orleans and wouldn't stay anywhere else. The food choices are excellent and if you get tired of gambling, you always have the huge bowling lanes up on the 2nd floor as well as about 12-14 movie theaters. What else would you want? Can you tell I love the place? Going back in September and can hardly wait.
