We're biting the bullet in October and going for a long weekend (we always travel during the week) to see Rod Stewart. We have never stayed at the Flamingo, but this time we are going to try it. We have a GO room booked, but the reservation agent on the phone said that they won't guarantee that room. I told her I didn't want to stay there unless we had at least a GO room. After a long conversation, I booked it. My confirmation says GO room.

Has anyone ever checked in here with a GO room and then been downgraded? We don't arrive until 10:30 p.m., which makes me extra nervous about getting a GO.

Thanks for any insight! Right now, I'm about ready to switch back to Paris or Bally's (we stayed in the Jubilee Tower this summer and absolutely loved our room, much to our surprise).

did you ask for 2 beds?

That they generally don't grantee - unless you pay more for it through the website.

We're in the same boat but I think mine is even scarier because we aren't getting in until late Saturday (in August). Anyway, same deal - room comped, no guarantee on the phone but web confirmation says GO room. My wife will not be pleased if we wind up in a Fab room. In our favor, though, I will be platinum by the time we get there (TR Visa card) and will certainly have the $20 trickwich ready to go.

    Cheers!

Twice I have booked a comped GO room and then got the "we are sold out of GO rooms" BS when I checked in at the Diamond check in room. So, yes it can happen. I had a host intervene both times since I was comped for play and, yes, my confirmation said Go Room. Other times, I had booked the same thing and was upgraded, so it's a crap shoot. Like you, I'm not interested in staying there unless I have a GO room.... the FAB rooms are fine but the beds are hard and I just don't do hard beds. Checking in late at night isn't going to help, hopefully you are coming in before the weekend, which will certainly help.

I suspect the worst case is you could take a FAB room for the first night then move to a GO room the next day, although I know that is a pain in the A$$. Enjoy your trip!

    Gotten a GO ROOM!

But on those occasions we paid for it.

We have only got Fab rooms comped.

This time around we could get comped Fab rooms...but the cost of the GO Room was so reduced that we booked the Go.

Is this issue being discussed only for comp rooms?

Thanks, everyone. Yes, our room is comped. We are Platinum, which makes no difference based on what dbueler said above. We check in late on a Thursday for the weekend; hopefully it will help that it's not a Friday or Saturday. Still not sure what to do. If we get a Fab room, I will ask to be rebooked at Paris or Bally's, I guess. We haven't stayed in Vegas on a weekend since 2002, and we had a late check-in that night at the Mirage, and we got huge suites for the first night and then had to switch to regular rooms (that was a bummer!). :)

what does getting a fab room have to do with getting rebooked at another hotel your not guarented a room type there either. if you really must have a certian type or your trip will be ruined you should pay for it or just go with the flow. ive stayed atall types in flamingo and there fine, its a clean bed to pass out in, its not the wynn but i knew that going in

Just a thought.... if you get a FAB room, you may not be able to get booked at Paris or Bally's at the last minute comped. The comp is based on availability and may not be available if it's a relatively busy weekend. I know the closer the date is to current, the fewer comped rooms I show on the CET website.

I understand you want a room more than just to crash in.... the room matters to me too, although probably for different reasons. I stay in hotels for business every single week and, when I'm on vacation, I enjoy a "vacation" type room. I also hang out in my room several hours during the day, I know most don't, but I enjoy it. On the other hand, as paperposter said, if this is going to totally f*ck up your vacation, then book a room somewhere else and pay for what will make you happy.,,,, vacations are too short and it's not worth the risk and drama. Paris & Bally's aren't going to guarantee your room type either, although I do think Bally's does try harder, at least from my experience they do.

And a quick note on the GO rooms, I truely enjoy them, but they are showing their age and are getting rough around the edges. It doesn't bother me, I'm not the Trip Advisor poster who is going all crazy because the desk legs were banged up in their room, but do understand they aren't all fresh and new. That said, I think the floor to ceiling windows are awesome and more than make up for a room that's a little more "lived in". The Bally's Jubilee rooms are pretty new, so you might consider them if you're looking for something new.

Last year we paid for a GO Room but our check-in was late and were placed in a FAB until the next day. I understand some view it as "just a place to crash" but the FAB rooms really do suck (as does the Flamingo in general). Stay elsewhere.

I guess it all depends on your expectations....We have walked through all the hotels/casinos on the strip. And as old and run down as it is, we would much rather stay at the flamingo then say aria or cosmo. I don't care how nice their rooms are. We have stayed the last 2 years at Flamingo on comped or partially comped Fab rooms. Both times got upgraded to a GO room using the $20 trick. Walking to our room, housekeeping was cleaning a Fab room down the hall and I looked in. Looked fine to me. I would be ok staying in that room, if we didn't get upgraded. Would have been fine for us.

I have stayed in the FAB rooms as well.

They are not as nice as the GO rooms...but they were better than Ballys standard room.

Apparently, Paris has nice rooms - but they are the RED rooms. The standard room at Paris always seems rated low!

If the pool is of any importance to you...Flamingo is the place to be - based on your other options.

Thanks, all. I've just read so much here and also talked to friends who have stayed in the Fab rooms and were unhappy. I'm went ahead and rebooked at Bally's in a Jubilee Premium King. We stayed in one this May and loved it. Since this is a special trip for my husband, I don't want the stress of taking a chance on a room we may or may not like.

We usually stay at Paris, but this summer we chose Bally's because the other two couples we were with had rooms there, and we ended up loving it. We've always had either a regular Red room or a Red P room at Paris, and we considered it our "home base," but we were just as happy at Bally's. We like the extra room in the rooms at Bally's and in the P room. Thanks, everyone, for your info and advice.

But... what if they can't get you into a Jubilee room? What if all they have available are the Indigo rooms? Couldn't that be the same dilemma as GO vs. Fab?

We were downgraded once to fab room but it was a comp over New Year's and we were only platinum. We were also upgraded once to a very nice suite. We had friends in a High Roller view fab in April and their room was really nice. The bathroom wasn't redone but it was clean and just fine, and all of the furniture in their room looked brand new.

No. In fact, when I called to switch, the reservation agent said nothing about the possibility. The Flamingo booking agent made a huge deal out of it, and that's why I was worried. Thanks for the sarcasm, though, ams722. Very helpful.
