Showgirls! Plus other ideas for stuff to do.

We are going to Vegas in August and I want to see a show with "showgirls" - you know the girls with all the feathers and elaborate costumes and headdresses doing high kicks and dancing down stairs....

I know Jubilee fits that description, but some of the reviews are not that great. Any other suggestions?

This is our first vacation in 26 years of being married (not even a honeymoon) so I'm trying to get a nice variety, as it may be another 26 years before I get to do this again. We will be there for 7 days, but 3 1/2 of those days will be taken up with a conference like event with little time to do anything else.

Here is our list of things to do so far:

Beatles Love
Hoover Dam w/ Lake Mead cruise
Nathan Burton show
Recycled Percussion (we are big fans of percussion)
High Roller
Fremont Experience
Another show (w/ showgirls!)

Also thinking of doing the hop on/hop off bus tour to see other hotels/sights, etc

We are not the party type - no drinking, gambling or pool parties - but do enjoy seeing fun shows and the sights - so any suggestions are welcomed.

Some thoughts...

I doubt there will be a better choice than Jubilee for a showgirl show. It's damn near the only one. If you wanted more sexy nude stuff you could think about Fantasy, but in guessing not. And yes, I've heard many are board by it. Maybe watch a few clips on YouTube.

I'd consider a trip to the Grand Canyon based on your dislikes of most things Vegas. I'm guessing the GC would blow away any of your current plans.

Do you like good food? Of so, consider putting budget toward that. Tons I great options.

Burton may not be the best magic choice.

You didn't mention where you're staying, but given your circumstance I would explain this at checkin, tip them and ask for a great view. You'll appreciate it.

Look to see what big names might be visiting when you're there. That can be fun.

Don't call any number on passing billboards unless her name is Jane.

Steal some soap.

Bet on a sport, then watch it.

Vacation more. Life is way tooooooo short. Vacation more.

 

Jubilee is the longest running show of its type for a reason - people still want to see a classic showgirl presentation. Yeah, some of the critics think the show is stale. That's what happens to classics. There used to be many more of these shows and someday Jubilee will be gone too. It really is something to see if you've never done it.

Jubilee! is the last of it's kind. If you want to see showgirls, you should go. Deals are plentiful for this show as well. Don't let the haters get you down. If you appreciate Jubilee! for what it is, you'll enjoy it. I'm glad we saw it before they made changes to it. No matter how much you like new fancy cutting edge stuff, sometimes you just want an old school steak dinner. Jubilee! is an old school steak dinner. If you're hungry for it, it will hit the spot.

SO MUCH TO DO for quiet non-drinking non-gambling folks! And so much of it is free!

I saw Jubilee and did not care for it but it does have all the elements you're looking for. I kind of enjoyed it in an "it's so bad it's good" kind of way. It did make me laugh. That's a loooooot of boobs on that stage.

A great vegas-y show is the free Big Elvis show at Harrah's piano bar. It's a free afternoon show. 600 pound Elvis impersonator, and he is GOOD. It's our favorite show in Vegas, seriously!

Don't miss the Bellagio fountains, I could watch that again and again. Then wander around Bellagio, see the beautiful stained glass ceiling sculptures in the lobby, and the world's largest chocolate fountain, and the indoor garden.

Fremont Street Experience is a fun light show at night. Free.

Go up the Eiffel Tower at night. You can get 2-for-1 passes at the casino desk.

Wander around the Chandelier Bar at Cosmopolitan. Even if you don't drink. You're literally walking around inside a gigantic chandelier. This is what Vegas is for!

Go to the top of the Stratosphere at sunset. Just beautiful.

There's a wonderful automobile collection at the Quad. Search for free passes online. I'm not a huge car buff but I went years ago and it was just great.

The fancy-pants stores in Forum Shops is a lot of fun to browse. I just love trying on a $10k coat. It's like a museum where you get to touch everything.

We love to just wander through the casinos and gawk at the excess and fabulosity.

Our trip starts in NINE DAYS. Can you tell I'm excited!!! Have a great time!

I'm kinda re-thinking the Jubilee show. Not sure what to do at this point, but I'm sure we'll find something.

I saw Jubilee and would not see it again, but I'm glad I saw it just so that I could see a classic Vegas "showgirl" show before they're gone. My favorite adult/showgirl show is Fantasy, but it's more modern than the classic show you have in mind.

And for what it's worth, I really enjoyed Nathan Burton's Comedy Magic show.

 

we have seen jubilee once every year and am looking forward to again in sept. the glamour-glitz-feathers-boas-colour-head-dresses-high kicking-magnificent stairway sequences have to be seen to be believed-see it while you can. these shows are a dieing breed.

 

If you want to see an old school Vegas showgirl show, then go see Jubilee. I say that though on having seen it BEFORE the recent changes they have made. I have no idea how the recent changes might effect that. I personally really liked it. But I wanted to see and old-school Vegas showgirl show before they were all gone. I also saw Follies Berger at Tropicana before it disappeared and I'm very glad I did. If/when this show finally shuts down you may never get a chance to see what was once a staple of the Las Vegas experience.

 

The negitive reviews, here and otherwise, state that it is a little dated. That is the reason for the very recent update (spring 2014).
I've not seen it since the update. However, this is the show that fits your desire to see 'hundreds' of beautiful showgirls wearing thousands of rhinestones, yet, "covering practically nothing" as the ads say.
Since the early 1980's, Jubilee has been giving visitors the Vegas experience.

 

We saw Jubilee and really enjoyed it because we were looking for the "showgirl" show. We also enjoyed Vegas the Show - it had some show girls and was very entertaining.

 

Check travelzoo.com, smartervegas.com and goldstar.com they have nearly every show on heavy discount . My favorites are Carrot Top, Jersey Boys and Donnie and Marie.

I haven't done hoover dam or lake mead, but do remember it'll be 110º or there will be a monsoon, not sure how much time you want to spend outside. Also if you only really have 3 days, I don't think I'd want to be away from the action all day. If you don't mind, I recommend Red Rock, it's about a 20 minute drive from the strip. There is a 13 mile driving tour, it's beautiful!! Then stop at the casino, awesome place.

Fremont is worth seeing, a lot going on down there these days.

Also may I suggest with your list of activities you might want to rent a car. It would be more efficient than a bus. There is a crap ton of walking in Vegas, and it's really hot... to me I like having a car. You would rack up cab fare like crazy. Just Fremont and back would set you back almost $50

 

Vegas is still new to us, we've only got 3 trips under our belts.
