Planet Hollywood-good,bad, ugly

Just booked this place for next March. Never stayed there but gambled several times and ate at Earl's. Please tell me you good,bad,ugly opinions.

 

Poker room is out in the open but has a great vibe to it if you play poker. That is pretty much my experience with PH

 

Stayed there a couple times, although most recently was more than a year ago. Overall, its an average property. The casino is fun and has a lot of energy. The food options are ok. The rooms, however, are below average and the pool is maybe the worst on the Strip. The Miracle Miles shops is a good, inexpensive shopping option within the resort. Overall, I still like visiting PHo for the rare stop in the casino or the mall, but wouldn't stay there because of the poor room quality (especially the bathroom, very bad). IMO, other nearby CET properties have nicer rooms (such as Paris)

 

Its a younger crowd.... I am 33 and will be 34 this year and love the vibe.... some people dont.....

 

I've had comp standard rooms there twice in the last 6 months. First one was pretty much yucky, it felt like they just painted over an old Aladdin room where the age really showed, especially in the bathroom. The last time however, although the same standard of room, it seemed much better. Still older, but it had movie memorabilia in the room, decent view of the fountains, etc. I would still consider the rooms average at best. I do like the size and variety in the Casino, and I do like the food options as well. Location was great. They have some fun show options (I've loved Purple Reign, though I think its moved now, went to stripper 101 (fun) and heading to see Brittney Spears in September).

I agree with UKFanatic, the resort is great, but rooms not so much. If you are planning to be out and about and the room is merely a place to park your bags, it may not matter much to you (especially if you got a good deal)....if you do want to spend time in the rooms than maybe consider elsewhere.

Good: Best location on the strip in my opinion, lots to see and do there (I love the mall, and they have Britney and other concerts, lots of restaurants). GR Burger, yum!

Bad: The rooms are outdated, and dingy. Also very small. I've had a few rooms there be pretty good then some were just really not nice at all! Also there are a few restaurants (GR Burger, Earl, PF Changs) I enjoy here, but I find I don't care for many of them either (YOLO's, Planet Dailies) they have a lot of bland mid-level choices, not much that is unique. I don't like their casino. I feel like they never have the newest slots. This is totally a personal opinion though, I know a lot of people do like it.

Ugly: Parking! It's the worst there, it's literally at least a mile from the self park to the room, so everyone valet's making the valet really slow. Also on the strip side, it's really noisy from the outdoor parties going on at Cosmopolitan.

I would recommend staying and Paris and just heading over here if that was feasible.. Paris is just easier to manage.

 

This place was my home base for a couple of years, and comps were very generous for awhile..

Great Location, Miracle Mile Shops are nice, good buffet, plenty of dinning options, resort rooms facing Bellagio provide great views. Not to mention easy access to Harmon Corner and Walgreens are a major plus.

Downside nothing on the entertainment side of property is that great (Maybe Britney Spears), pools are just okay, gaming odds are below average, and rooms below Resort level are just okay. Common areas in hotel towers
are really showing their wear and tear.

A cool place to hang out, and I would definitely stay there once to see if you like the vibe. Personally I would not pay to stay there for what the rack rates are in comparison to competition. If you can get a comp then its worth a try.

 

I'm of the group that enjoys the location and vibe. I agree that the rooms tend to be small and dark, though none of my rooms were showing signs of wear. And imo, a base room at PH is prettier than a base room at Paris. Yes, the strip view rooms can be noisy from the pool and cosmo across the street - but I also got to watch Enrique Iglesias from the comfort of my room last year when he was playing at the boulevard pool at Cosmo. I had a cocktail waitress who was amazing last year at the heart bar and had remembered me by drink and always had one in front of me within seconds of sitting down. And yes, the pool is a concrete jungle.

 

I like staying at ph. You can usually get an upgrade to a resort room, which is a lot nicer. Strange layout though I think. Bear in mind, people on here often compare a base room at bellagio or aria with a base room at ph or Paris. The latter are not as nice. Who would have thunk it. Location is great. Casino vibe is always a blast.

 

Yes and no. I was there a couple weeks ago and there were plenty of 40-, 50-, and 60-somethings at the tables. It might WANT to give off a young, hip vibe, but it's no Cosmo. It's pretty welcoming but still a bit "sexy."

We enjoyed our stay at PH (July 2013) and the collective wisdom of the previous posters is spot on. I think the base rooms at PH are better than Paris's, but yes they are showing their age. We had a Hollywood Hip room booked, $20 tip got us strip view which we really enjoyed (and our window was big enough for two people to sit in). I'm booked there for November (it was exactly the same price as Paris) but the room itself will be a bit of a letdown after our last room (Aria, two weeks ago). My wife usually does a spa treatment or two, and it was nice that she didn't have to walk through the PH casino afterward (as you have to do at Bellagio, for instance).

The BJ limits are never lower than $15, in my experience. So I'm always trekking to Bally's or (if I'm lucky) Paris for a $10 game. Which I don't mind at all.

Anyway, to put it on a bumper sticker: we liked PH and will probably be there again in a few months.

 

I stayed there once, in the most faux faux-suite you can imagine, called a Strip Suite. I concur with others that the casino is lively, rooms are dated, small, and a bit beaten up looking, dining is average casual type options. Location is great. The pool sucks if you're looking for a resort type pool, but I kind of liked it just for swimming without a crowd of people milling about in the water.

There is a blackjack pit right outside the HL room that offers pretty decent rules on shoe games at $25 or so, and the dealers dress in lingerie like they do in the party pit. They are fun and very social. The HL room is tiny, they have a shoe game with good rules but a DD game with kind of crappy rules compared to other DD games on the strip. Its H17 and no DAS. Overall its a decent place if you're looking for something very casual, economical, and lively. Go in with those expectations.

 

Good: nice vibe. Plenty of options for eating especially when including the mall.
The location is great.

Bad: The casino is a bit on the small side.

Ugly: Can't really come up with much except the pool.

Yes I can't quantify what it is that I don't like about that place either. Maybe it is because every time I try and find something in that place I seem to be walking in a circle and looking over what I was trying to find. As for the poker room, I don't care for it. I like having some interaction with the actual casino at the poker room, but that is a little much. I guess I am easily distracted and can't keep my mind on the poker.

 

I really enjoy PH and have stayed there a few times on a comp. I don't think I'd ever pay their prices to stay there though. I love the location, the casino vibe, and easy access to Earls.

 

I like Planet Hollywood quite a bit, but I do agree that the rooms are in need of renovation at this point. I haven't stayed in anything but a Resort Vista or Panorama suite in my 4 trips since I started staying there again in February of this year, but the fixtures on the tubs and vanities are still from Aladdin. LOL I don't spend much time in the room anyway, so I don't care too much about them unless the bed is uncomfortable and I've found their beds to still be fine.

Good: I enjoy Spice Market buffet, Earl of Sandwich, and Cheeseburger in the Miracle Mile makes a good breakfast. (I haven't done any fine dining there.) I also enjoy Sin City Comedy & Burlesque (although I think the burlesque part is stupid), especially since you can normally get tickets for $15 each on Groupon or Living Social (includes one drink). You normally can't go wrong with comedy. They also have lots of other lower end shows in the Miracle Mile (B Beatleshow is entertaining if you like the Beatles music).

Great: The location is fantastic. It's a super easy walk across the street to Cosmopolitan (and then to Aria) or to Paris (and then through Paris to Bally's) which opens up possibilities for other food/entertainment options. The staff at PH has been very friendly and helpful on each of my trips, too, which makes the experience that much nicer.

Bad: Yes, the hotel is showing wear. The casino can get quite loud at night, but I'm 52 and not a party-er anymore. Still, it doesn't really bother me -- I'm there to gamble. The Valet can be VERY slow, even for diamond card holders. It's a cluster*** during busy times. Also, Planet Dailies (their version of a coffee shop) is WAY overpriced, the service has totally sucked every time I've been there, and the food really isn't very good. We did see Sylvester Stallone dining a few tables over from us one time we were there (several years ago), although I'm not impressed by celebrities.

 

I will chime-in with a my complaint about the pool, it is blisteringly hot up top with almost no shade to speak of. In the summer the water is too warm to be of any relief. Also, never have been a fan of the carpeted bathrooms, I would hate to hit those things with a UV fluid light.

 

My only negative on my last stay at PH was at the pool. Every day we were almost strip searched getting thru the door. The first time we had no idea we couldn't bring in our own drinks so they rudely inferred we were trying to break the rules to save a buck. That really was a low class thing to say to their guests but I bit my lip and really gave the two punks a stare after I tried to explain it was our first time to the pool and were unaware of their policy. On days two thru five, our bags again were completely checked and on two occasions by the same two punks however they refrained their snide comments but still went thru the bags like the airport TSA agents. Not a fun experience.

Let me clarify that I signed up for total rewards visa a few months ago and I am now platinum. So when I am going (sun-fri) all 5 nights are on a comp and no resort fee. I am staying in a hollywood hip strip view room.
I mostly play craps and video poker and have done decent at both here so that was kind of the deciding factor.

 

I play VP as well, and the PH has a decent selection of 98% games, including some super times pay, that are right by the (north?) elevators, by Planet Dailies. It was nice to zoom down to the casino and be playing in seconds.
