When playing video poker or slot machines, do you get your tier credits or rewards automatically once you put money into the machine or do you have to play in order to gain rewards?

Rewards are based on play and are usually awarded based on $10 coin in. Each slot club awards points differently so check with the particular slot club in which you are playing to know how points are earned.

For slot machines you get 1 point for every $5 you play through. You get 1 point for every $10 you play through video poker but the points with VP can vary depending on the pay schedule. You might get more 1 point per $5 through on a 6/5 JOB but 1 point per $10 through on a 8/5 JOB machine.

You have to actually put the money in to play before you earn any credits.

Otherwise they don't know how much or how little you played - if you put in $100, played $5 and then stopped you shouldn't get the same amount of slot club points as somebody who put in $100 and played it over and over again until eventually they had no money left

The amount of money you put into the bill acceptor doesn't matter. It's how much you bet and how many hands you play. Putti in a $5 bill and then hitting a lucky streak where you play for an hour (about 400 hands) is the same as putting in $100 and then playing for an hour.
