    My Trip Report

I start this at 38,000 feet in my United A320 with 90 minutes to go before touchdown - fresh out of Newark. This trip will be a longer than normal one and unusual in being a family vacation - and thus worthy of a trip report....

The first ever American Library Assn summer convention using Vegas as a host city starts Friday and that's a mandatory working trip for my wife. Because I could offer some comped nights with MILF, this trip started to look like family holiday potential and a needed chance to get back to Vegas, my last trip being my own business excursion in early December. Besides, none of us have had a break since Christmas so we're all eager to get away. Both teenage daughters are joining and I do need to come up with some diversions for them - but I am counting on more than adequate opportunities for serious video poker, craps, BJ and maybe a little roulette.

I managed to get a comped room at MGM for most of the nights there - save Friday when I need to pay near rack rate. Ordered an adjoining room for the girls for the casino rate. But our first night will be at Cosmo with a fountain view one bedroom. We came in a day earlier than planned to save a bundle in airfare - and got a decent hundred dollar something rate on the Cosmo room. Plan to eat at Jaleo when we get settled and when the family crashes I will assume my position at the Cosmo craps table....

I did make a reservation at Giada for Monday, our last night here, which I am seriously looking forward to. The lady herself has been hanging around of late and it would be fun to say hello.

Other planned high points might be catching up with Tim and Michelle from Five Hundy. They are in town for a few days and I hope to track them down. Nate is here too - and who knows, we may share a craps table tonight at Cosmo.....

I am titling this "Jersey Bill Takes Las Vegas" - not because I expect to - but because my second vacation this summer will start in late July. It's a road rally of 8,000 MINI Coopers racing from San Francisco to Boston - and called "MINI Takes The States".... Three weeks and maybe 10K miles. Still, wouldn't be bad to see some BeeeJay scale luck thus trip....

So as our plane descends into a sea of 25,000 librarians in Vegas, I will just say "more to come"....

Inauspicious start. Cabbie tunnelled me going to Cosmo and as soon as he turned the car that way I started screaming at him in the front seat with family in the back. I promised him I would get his license pulled and he said pay what you want. Meter was $27 and I gave him $10 with a $2 "tip".

$20 trick upgraded us to one bedroom on 45th floor with fountain view (west wing) for $150 paid for the room.

Room is in good shape save for inoperative safe. On to Jaleo ....

Nice room upgrade! I couldn't even get the $20 tip to work on a Wed for the view upgrade two weeks ago and it looks like you got hooked up!

Gotta be the best view in Vegas. I'll bet Aria was pissed when Cosmo took it.

Family decided that jet lag fatigue last night argued for less involved dining so we went to Holsteins for great beer and burgers. My daughter had a Shirley Temple version of one of their alcoholic shakes.

Family soon collapsed and I head for the casino, fascinated by the high progressive on dollar DDB. I flailed at it valiantly as can be seen here to no avail...

Not a great first night as my East Coast late night fading led me to sit and drink at VP instead of hanging out at the craps table. Could not buy a quad on DDB - maybe only two for 3 hours - which means a big suck on the first night envelope. Cosmo took first blood but today will be a low key day checking out Brooklyn Bowl for some frames and later the pool at MGM when we move over there.

Had one last nice hit on STP before hitting the room last night though....

Will get back in the game later tonight at MGM on my normal home turf. Currently watching US Germany football match while staring out at Vegas waking up. Life is good.
