Just spent four days downtown 6/10 - 6/13 and took a butt-kicking. Video poker and slots were as tight as I have ever seen.
The Grand really sucks at Video. Very few 4 of a kinds . Any one else have the same (bad) luck?

I did a couple trips ago, couldnt get anything to happen. Biggest amount I've ever spent on a trip gambling, so I didn't even write the TR... Wish they had the payback percentage posted on the slots...But then no one would play them lol.

Not to hijack but is there a best spot to play slots that aren't as tight? Or is it hit or miss?

You'd think that, but I would almost guarantee that wouldn't be the case. I'm not even sure if it would hurt business that much. Slot players usually don't care about the math.

Mostly hit or miss, imo. Unfortunately statistics lump geographical areas together. The strip tends to be slightly tighter than downtown or off-strip.

Things that seem to be the case in Las Vegas:

Slots are tighter now than they were 15-20 years ago. (some is due to the hold percentages being lowered some is due to the change to multi-line "penny" video slots)

Finding a good paytables on VP is becoming more difficult every year.

Slots are typically tighter on the Strip than Downtown or off-Strip

Due to variance you cannot predict when or where you will have a lucky session..

Agree. We were downtown last week, and slots and video poke were the tightest we've seen.

I don't play slots, but I do play VP and there is no such thing as a tight or loose video poker machine. The payouts are determined by the pay table and the random number chip. Each hand is dealt from one 52 card deck. If you are playing 8/5 JOB versus 9/6 JOB then yes, you will probably lose more, but on the other hand, since it is random, you could win more.

Machines can get on hot or cold streaks, but none of that is predetermined or predictable. On our June 6th trip, my wife hit 3 royals in 24 hours on single line JOB. Two on the same machine at the bar.

    I'm with you, Joe.

I really like VP because I can read that paytables & know how "good" or "bad" that machine is.

After that, it is just trying to get enough good hits (quads) to keep going.

I was going to say this but then decided not to. This is good stuff here people. It's a different ball game with slots of course.

Did the best at Suncoast. Downtown slots are brutal! Had ZERO luck at MSS, Fremont and Grand. Did OK at Plaza but man does the Plaza need a shot of EXCITEMENT.
The Grand rooms are nice but it just does not have that comfy feeling. Will stay there in the future simply because it IS the best bang for your buck............amongst the DT casinos ( exclude GN).
For what it's worth, the El Cortez does give you your monies worth. Great drinks, good slots and reasonable food prices.

I stayed and played at the EC 2 weeks ago. Didn't win squat on the VP machines.

Thank you for saying this. Amazes me that people still believe all of the slot/VP myths that are out there. Just a few weeks ago I was playing VP and had a much older man tell me after he saw me hold 3 to the royal, maybe AKJ "you know what they do is they always put the ten right behind the Jack so you can never get the royal, of course they do that, that's how I would do it if I made the machine!" I'm too polite so I just say might be never know while I want to say you're an idiot and if you think that why would you ever play yourself??

The convention that was coming in to town, the biggest of the year was all young kids and raves and stuff. I thought maybe they tightened up the machines because these kids will probably not spend much money. I was told you could not get a room anywhere starting on june 21.

You can tell how good or bad a machine is by the pay table? I agree full pay is your best bet but that does not tell me if a machine is good or bad. And I also agree everything is random but at the same time if you play long enough and drop enough $ you should get "lucky" once in a while. There were times on full pay I lost $20 in a matter of minutes!

I haven't had much luck downtown in my last couple visits which is part of the reason it's no longer a priority to visit. I have better luck off strip. The further away and the less corporate the better.

Not on VP; I was hitting 4s left and right. (In fact, twice I drew to a pair of 7s and got the other two.) VP isn't allowed to be "tight" except in terms of the pay table; Nevada gaming regulations say that the cards have to be fair.

However, what little slot play I did (dollar Wheel of Fortune) did seem to be Strip-level tight, compared to how I remember downtown slots in the past.
