    Hi all,

Ill be back in vegas in September with a buddy and we are looking at doing the first night downtown at MSS.

I have played downtown but never stayed there. Any advice? Rooms/floors to avoid, etc?

I've never had a problem with the noise in any of the rooms. Others will differ but I'm not in the room enough for an occasional train whistle to bother me. I will say that the top floor struggles to stay cool enough in mid summer. Other times of year are fine up there.

Since you're only staying a night at the MSS I really doubt you would spend much time in your room, opting to visit all the sights and scene on the FSE and using MSS as a place to crash for the night IMHO.

But then you may want to ask for a room facing south, the northside rooms face the freeway and it can get noisy in the morning due to rush hour traffic. As others have mentioned, the southside rooms have the problem with noise from the trains but many aren't affected that much by the noise. Maybe better to get a room closer to Main street but then you have the noise from the ambulances and dump trucks. Maybe best to get rooms near the middle of the building so it is away from the trains and the street noise, facing south of course.

The noise has never bothered us. But ask for a low number, odd numbered room if you are concerned. ex 1301, 1401 etc.

It's not fancy. I'm there for the casino.

I can deal with the noise. That can happen almost anywhere.

The lack of room darkening shades is my biggest complaint. Also wish the safe was digital. Only one of you gets the key.

F.Y.I, you might end up being spoiled by a two minute walk from casino to room.

My only issue is that at 6' tall many of the shower heads are installed way to low. First several trips I had to do the limbo to take a shower. Almost have to kneel. Last trip I got a room with a normal shower head. Maybe inquire at the disk if you're over 5'6"

aaisack, do you remember what room number you had? I am also over 6ft and struggled with the shower head height at MSS. This is not a deal breaker for me and my spouse staying there though. Also to the OP, I agree with Joe as far as the room numbers. Low and odd number. They are closer to the street and may be a little quieter than the train.

It was a higher floor - exiting the 4 bank of elevators it was the last room on the left on the far side (furthest from Main Street). Sorry I can't remember the room number.

That 2 minute walk is a big reason I like staying at MSS so much. Compare that to the 20 minutes it can take to get to your room on the strip, so much more time for fun!

Nothing to do with staying there, but stop at the Player's Club and pick up one of the brochures that explains some of the odd assortment of antiques. Also on the main casino floor, there is a small elevator across from the cage and next to security, on the east wall. Take that up to #2 and check out the antique pool tables. If there is a security guard there he may ride up with you, but if nobody is around, just do it.

My best tip is to ignore the $5 WoF machine.

LOL, this is a good tip, but a very difficult one to accomplish.

I'll admit that I've hit for a couple hundred bucks on a small $20-30 investment, but I've also seen others lose several hundred in the same machine.

The MSS Security personnel always seem to follow me around? I asked them about it once... "Is their a problem?" They just said "No, we just like to watch you do stupid stuff!"

They even let me go up the elevator all by myself every once in a while... but I always prefer the escort... they are really nice and laugh at my stupid jokes!
