I know there's probably 3,512 threads about New York-New York already on here, but I'm too busy (OK, too lazy to search for them)
So, tell me about New York-New York. Would one of their basic rooms (roughly $600.00 for 7 days) be comfortable for one person? I don't need anything outrageous (suites are fine if they are comped)
Thinking about an October Vegas trip, maybe staying at New York-New York (I'll be finally using my Mlife card to gamble at the property a bit this June...to hopefully earn some comps or better deals for the fall visit). How much should I gamble (be reasonable) here in June to get some decent rates this October?
Any advice, suggestions, help would be appreciated

Yes - one of their standard rooms are fine for one person.

I'm a bit of a hotel snob, and I have no problem staying there.

They treat me the best of the MGM properties, comp-wise.

Sounds good. I'll throw some gambling their way this June trip (I'll be at Tropicana). I usually (always) stay mid-Strip (Caesars). I have ventured down to Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, Luxor, MGM briefly in the past. I did like the "feel" of the southern part of the Strip (working-class families---everyone down there seemed approachable and friendly. Sort of reminded me of Disney with gambling. No one seemed flashy or pretentious. I once referred to Excalibur as "a trailer park with money"---I regret saying that now, and will never say it again).

 

I will be staying at NYNY for the first time next month. From what I see their rooms are pretty basic as far as strip standards go but certainly aren't even close to the worst. As far as gaming, they are definitely one of the more generous MGM properties. My last trip I spent a maybe a total of 2 hours at the casino and a few months later received two nights comped(even weekends) which I could use twice, limo pickup and some freeplay.

 

Spend?

If u don't mind telling me, what kind of spend did you do in the 2 hrs. We stayed at NYNY for 13 nights 2 yrs ago. We probably spent an hr or 2 everyday gambling and never received anything free. Did u book direct with hotel and use mlife? Thanks

 

When you say hours, are you playing table games or slots? If you're playing slots, are you milking the two hours, or constantly playing? Since it's based on your theoretical loss, they don't count time spent on machines like they do on table games. Do be sure to get your play tracked though, otherwise they won't know you've spent any money gambling.

NYNY's offers are generally better than average for me, although MB has been treating me pretty well lately. I haven't gambled at NYNY for a couple years now (I only play craps there, I just don't like that casino) and they still offer me some minimal freeplay and rooms, but I'm sure my play at MB is what draws their attention. They were once the only place that offered me comped rooms when I was first starting to gamble and I was super excited. I started getting offers after spending 3 days at Aria playing maybe 10-12 hours over the 3 days at pai gow poker $25-$50/hand and a few hundred on slots.

 

Pool kind of sucks. That's the only thing I don't care for at NYNY. Casino is lively. BJ dealers are very good. I was betting $10 / hand and dealer suggested I move to a 3:2 table, and pointed out where it was. That impressed me, as many dealers couldn't care less.
I like the rooms there a lot. The layout to elevators are a little confusing at first but OK once you get your bearings. Ask for a room close to elevator. Roller Coaster goes to about midnight, so if you retire earlier, ask for a room in the back (no strip view).
There's a small Breakfast buffet at the Chinese restaurant. basic but OK.
I budget about $500 to gamble. Get midweek offers of 3 nights (+resort fee grrrrrrr) and $50 in free play.

Funny, within 10 minutes of me posting yesterday, I got an e-mail for 3 nights anytime (curious to see if I can book for EDC weekend, though I probably wouldn't go) and $50 freeplay. Oddly, I like the pool. It's pathetically small by strip standards, but it's lively and random games of volleyball with beach balls pop up and you can meet some cool people that way.

 

As an aside, I really appreciate the Pizzeria inside the fake city at NYNY. You can get a slice of NY style pizza and a pint of beer for 7 bucks. I've stopped there a couple on my way back down the strip before getting on the tram to MB.

 

I saw on Southwest vacations last night an offer for a free breakfast buffet. I didn't realize they put one in the Chinese restaurant.

I love the sandwiches at Greenburg's Deli.

 

We stayed at NYNY a few times before switching to CET.
We really liked it.
For one person the base room is a good fit. For two its a bit tight.
Not a fan of their bathroom configuration especially if two people are in the room.
Overall NYNY is a great casino with plenty of gaming options and food options.
Give them a good hour or so on the slots and you should get an offer for one or two free nights but no Free Play.

 

I like NYNY and found the basic room great for 1 or 2 people, although if you like to spend a lot of time in the room, it might be a little small for 2 people.

I get comp offers of 3 nights with $100 freeplay on not a lot of gambling. Maybe 2 - 3 hours of slot and video poker play. I haven't given them any table play.

OK, I was in Vegas a couple weeks this month. I gambled a boatload at New York-New York (machines, no tables). My MLife card went to Pearl status in a matter of days. First trip I ever played with an MLife property.
I called yesterday and booked a room with them (Madison Avenue with a Strip view). I went through VIP services. My total price is (resort fees and everything included) $852.32 (for 7 days October 17-October 24). Did I get a good rate? The agent said something about putting me in for an upgrade.

 

Wow - can't imagine spending that much for a room. Since we have a local CET riverboat a few minutes from home....we get 5-6 free nites in LV each trip since our initial trip. Is there a reason you stick with MLife?

 

When I was dealing with CET, I was always comped 5 nights at Caesars. I have stayed in some of their best rooms. I am just tired of the CET properties, tired of the aging crowd that the CET properties tend to attract. This trip this month was actually my first real experience with the southend of Vegas. I loved it---the crowd (southend) is cooler, hipper, and younger than the mid-Strip crowd. I'm not sure why New York-New York (VIP services) charged me so much for the room (for this October). I did gamble several hundred dollars per day for a week at the MLife properties earlier this month. I became Pearl rather quickly (I'm unsure what the Pearl status really equates to). This was the first time I'd gambled with the MLife group. Maybe my comps haven't been updated to my MLife account yet.

That sounds like a lot to me - especially for NYNY.

October is a ways away - you can always call back closer to then and see if you have any better offers. That's definitely what I'd do because they take time to cycle through their system.

And Pearl status is basically nothing. You could make Pearl by simply spending $1,000 on a room/food/shows during one trip.

 

I agree that is way too high for NYNY for your dates in October....you can get that price on a 3rd party website for your dates with no mLife history.....you should be getting a better rate. How did you like Tropicana? What type of room did you end up getting. I have one of the new poolside villas booked for July.
