Mike, the last I heard (if you are talking about the one that was supposed to develop a station at Plaza) it went the way of the King Kong ride at Strat and Beverly Hillbilly casino once proposed by Max Baer. Belly-up!

this entire plan has taken so long and not what people are expecting. They can not get a stopping point at the plaza so that has put a hold on things. They are looking at a spot in north las vegas and another spot somewhere near industrial rd, word is south of tropicana. Heres the thing about it. It wont start in LA actually in Montebello and it will take 5 hours and they are charging $100 each way. You can typically fly out of LA, long beach or ontario for under $100.

In England we use trains to get around the country for the most part (as opposed to planes, not in general) as it's a small place. I can't really think of any reason not to fly in the US though.

Haven't heard anything. I mean it's never more than $150 RT to fly. Nobody would take a train that takes 3x as long for double the price. So I doubt it will ever get built.

I think the main problem holding up a LAX-LAS train is, most of it would be paid for by California taxpayers, most of whom wouldn't be happy paying for a service that, for the most part, is meant for people to spend money outside of California.

There may be a handful of people in Nevada traveling to Los Angeles, but for the most part, it would be LA-to-Vegas weekenders.

Cali taxes are ridiculous as it is, even more so, depending on where in Cali you live. All the money Cali would spend on a railway to Vegas, they should just give all us degenerate Cali gamblers a Prius instead...even better, a Tesla!

Just as an interest as I work on the railway in the UK, how long would a train journey between LA and Vegas take

Depends on the train, I suppose. The distance between LA and Vegas is about 430-480 km depending on your specific destination.

They used to have a train and it stopped at the Plaza. The Plaza is where we stayed all the time and we only took it one time and we went to Vegas a lot. It was too expensive and took almost twice as long as driving and we boarded about six miles from our house. Another thing, there was hardly anyone onboard. It just doesn't make any sense to me for them to even consider it.

Things appear to be falling apart for the proposed X Train from Fullerton to North Las Vegas. The just-released second quarter report from operator Las Vegas Railway Express revealed that the penny stock company is dropping plans to raise $100 million to launch the train service, which was supposed to start this New Year's Eve and allow people to eat, drink, and buy show tickets while en route. By giving up on raising the start-up money, the company lost a $600,000 deposit to Union Pacific, which owns part of the tracks between Nevada and California. LVRE's plan now is to pursue a deal with unnamed investors to restart Amtrak service between southern California and the Vegas area, which stopped 16 years ago. The company also has a proposal to add casino-style train cars to existing Amtrak routes, but Amtrak says no such plans are in place. Meanwhile, a planned high-speed rail route from Vegas to Victorville was recently starved to death by US Representative Paul Ryan. Back to the drawing board, and the 15.

A lot more talk about a train from LA to Vegas over the last 25 years then any action. The one that went to Plazza I think was an 8hr ride. That's why I never tried it. Almost always under 150 round trip to fly out of Long Beach.

No need for a train. The people who live in Cali like me can drive, take the bus (preferably the (Lux Bus), or Fly. The train they are proposing would be based many miles from LA. Most of the tourists from outside the U.S. fly into LA and out of LA. Most of the people who travel to Vegas from the U.S. just fly into Vegas.
People who live in San Bern, the mountains, the deserts, etc will just drive to Vegas.
I see no need for a train that isn't based in LA. There are basically two destinations......LA and Vegas. Not Montclair, the High Desert, or Ventura.
Tourists want to include LA, Disneyland, the beaches, the mountains, the deserts...........and then Vegas. There are many modes of transportation to do all those which a train cannot.

I take the Lux Bus from LA-Vegas. The shuttle goes to Anaheim, the Coach takes you to Vegas in 4 1/2 hours.
When i used to drive, i would leave early in the morning about 8:30 am and get to Vegas around 1:30 pm.
On the Lux Bus they pick me up around 8 am, then the main bus leaves Anaheim around 9 am, i get into Vegas about the same time.........1:30 pm.

I'd rather walk then bus but that's me. If a train was close to airfare and less time then driving then I would use it sometimes. Not everybody enjoys the drive.
