Hi there peeps, Last trip enjoyed drinking comped Makers Mark & Wild Turkey while playing VP and roulette. What others bourbons have you had comped? Is Woodford Reserve or Knob Creek a possibility while playing? Q
My favorite is Buffalo Trace which is on the same cost level as Jim Beam but all I get are blank stares when I ask for it...not too popular out there yet I guess. Makers is probably going to be the best you can get in most places although I wouldn't be surprised to see Woodford Reserve out there too. Also wouldn't be surprised to see Knob Creek along with its sisters Basil Hayden, Bakers and Bookers available in HL due to the strong marketing arm of Jim Beam distillery. Can't go wrong with any (or all) of them in my opinion, I love bourbon! Golden Gate has a great selection of bourbon and other whisk(e)y.
I've been comped Woodford Reserve on a regular basis at the Wynn (general floor except in the poker room), though there were a couple sessions where the waitress said it wasn't available. Makers Mark is much more prevalent. I like WR, KC, then MM. I stopped ordering JD after they watered it down and I explored and found better alternatives. WR is my first request, but most places unfortunately do not comp, at least on the main floor. Downtown, you are lucky to get MM.
I got Woodford Reserve playing bartop VP at the Cromwell. The waitress had to double check when I first asked but said it was just under her limit so it was ok. I drank it quite a bit in the NYNY High Limit room as well comped.
Woodford playing VP on the floor at Aria last week, Makers was the best I could get at the previously generous Sports book bar...they raised their prices so MM is $14, used to get better for $14...not that MM is bad, mind you, but they used to comp Eagle Rare, Blantons, etc...didnt drink while playing blackjack there for some reason, so can't comment...(what was I thinking???)
Dutch, I was playing quarter VP at bars in all three instances. When I sit down at a VP bar and I know I'll be staying for a few drinks, I always tip $5 for .the first and follow up with a $1 for each after that. I have good luck with what gets compared and the size of the pour.
Thanks for the response! I hope to report back next week regarding the whiskey choices at MB green chip table games and what the beachside casino will do.
I have gotten single barrel jack daniels many, many, many times while playing blackjack at the Mirage. I'm not sure if it's regularly comped, but I've gotten friendly with an old school waitress there and she'll get me anything I ask for if I tip her accordingly (which I always have). She gets it from the HL room and delivers it to the floor. This is at the quarter blackjack tables across from the HL room. I like playing there because I like to use the HL slot bathroom. Oh, and what's up with the Knob Creek love? I think that stuff is nasty. In fact, when me and my buddies all get together to do a whiskey tasting, Knob Creek always ends up as everyone's least favorite every time it's in the mix. I should add that I drink my whiskey neat though. If you're drinking it on the rocks, you probably can't taste how awful Knob Creek actually is because it's so diluted. For the money, Jack Daniels is the supreme leader in smoothness. The sugar maple charcoal filtering makes the difference.
The knob creek love is from the fact that it is a small batch bourbon, no jack daniels product that I know of is a bourbon, they are all Tennessee whiskey, which is a different drink.
Personally I really like Knob Creek. It has a nice burn, which I appreciate. I like to drink it straight and sip it slowly. JD is good mixed with a coke, but not so great straight IMO. Guess it all depends on what you're looking for in a whiskey. In my experience Crown, JW Red, Jameson and Makers are usually safe bets when you want a comp whiskey/bourbon
