How safe is the Rio for a solo female staying there? Are there a lot of homeless in the area? I have never stayed there and have always wanted too. I thank you in advance for your replies.

Stayed there in January The hotel and casino are as safe as any other. The hotel is relatively isolated. The walk to Gold Coast takes 6 or 7 minutes and is on main streets. I saw no homeless, vagrants, beggars or any other persons that might annoy or threaten me. There is a shuttle to the Strip (Bally's, I think) Good luck!

Yep shuttle to Ballys. Short walks to Gold Coast, Palms, and Orleans. Rios buffet is awesome. I have never stayed there personally, but my brother has several times and always mentions it is his favorite hotel hes ever stayed at in Vegas, and he is picky.

If you take the 'short cut' to Gold Coast, and it's dark, then you should walk with someone. I ran into a few cash & cig bums during my last Rio stay, but only when taking that route to Gold Coast, and only at night.
(The short-cut is through the surface lot at Rio, cross the street and cut through the Gold Coast parking garage.)

I was reminded by an employee of CET that the shortcut can get you a $250 ticket if you get caught by Metro. Go the few extra feet up to the light and use the cross-walk to get to Gold Coast.

I stay at Rio often and you will be just fine and feel safe there for sure. I see more bums and the 'shifty' looking type in the strip casino's than I do over at Rio. You may see a few over at Gold Coast, or maybe that's just how the locals look. :evillaugh

Can't believe you can get a ticket crossing Valley View to the GC...I can see on the Strip or Flamingo but seriously there? I must have gone that route 50 times back and forth, maybe waited on the median for traffic to pass just a few times..
But to the OP no worries and security is always present strolling the property only time in multiple stays there I saw them in action was to put a drunk into a wheelchair and arrange a cab to his hotel.
Security desk is right there close to the cashier and close to the Impanema tower elevators..

I've walked across many times, traffic was light, I kind of assumed it was a legal place to cross.

I've stayed at Rio a few times, but never solo. I would have no issues staying there alone.

Only thing is that I prefer something closer to the center of the action. Rio is kind of on an island with Gold Coast and Palms.

Hi, I have stayed at the Rio 4 trips, and some as the single female on the trip. Definitely safe! Do NOT walk to the Strip--take the shuttle. Do take the sidewalk when walking to the GC or the Palms. I did most of my gambling by myself, and never felt unsafe--even with a few drinks in me! Good luck and have fun!

We recently put my son up at The Rio - I must admit I was quite impressed. Nice clean room, nice casino floor, lots of food selections, we enjoyed the buffet. All in all never saw anyone shady or anything unsafe. We made lots of cab rides and approx $10 bucks one way.. In the late evenings the shuttle stops running..

I often stay at Palms solo and walk to Gold Coast and Rio during the day but I would NOT do that walk at night. I've taken a cab to Palms from Rio at night. Once when at Rio with friends, we were gambling at Gold Coast and my friends left while I stayed on a good Blackjack run. When I finally went to leave to go back to Rio in the wee hours, I asked a Security guard if he thought I'd be safe walking back alone and he said he'd have someone run me over and had another Security guard drive me over. Very nice of them as I don't imagine a cabby would have been happy with that trip.

We stayed as recently as last month, for the fifth time. Staff there are AWESOME!! My friends Dad lost his wallet which was found by slot machine staff, turned into security with EVERY DOLLAR in it! They hunted her down and she got a nice tip! Next day...it was a Camera (see a pattern lol?) Same result. They will not stay anywhere but Rio now. If you get a room in the Masquarade Tower, ask for a room on floors 27 thru 30 you should get a renovated "Samba Suite". Anything higher than that you MIGHT hear the Night club that's on the roof. An afternoon nap (in Vegas??? hahahahahaha) would be difficult tho with the music at the pool.

I've stayed at Rio once. Easier to get from there to the strip than I thought. They actually have a shuttle bus that will take you to Bally's,harrahs, etc..,like every 15/30 minutes(don't quote me on that).

Now I last stayed there in 2012 but pretty sure the shuttles still stop running at 11 or 12. All you have to do is stand at the bust stop at caesers palace and the regular deuce bus will take you the 5 minutes back to the hotel if you find yourself out late.

get a car and you wont have a problem getting where you want to go. Great casino, you can walk to palms and gc. ! mile away from the Orleans which is a great casino.
Less than a mile away from the strip. Great place to stay! have fun!

You can walk to all 3 of those casinos Rio/Palms/GC and not encounter any bums (cuz they're probably pandhandling at the strip) at night the Rio is very close to the entrance to "The Tunnels" in which alot of the homeless live. These tunnels were covered in beneath the neon the author of which happens to be a friend of a friend. I hope to meet him soon.

We've stayed at the Rio probably a dozen times over the last three years. We like the rooms, staff, restaurants and casino. The casino is quite spread out and usually not overly crowded. I like the laid back atmosphere and the comfort of playing late at night and safely making it back to the room. Although my wife doesn't stay up too late, I feel she is safe walking back to the room at night.

We tried the Royal India restaurant for the first time this last trip and really enjoyed the food but its a little pricey. We normally go to Pho da nang for Pho Ga a couple times each trip. This time we tried the chargrilled chicken and pork which were quite nice.

As mentioned it is a little isolated but shuttles and taxis are easy to take. I am usually too impatient to wait for the shuttle going back to Rio and catch a taxi.
