Wax bus or taxi to Flamingo?

We're coming in at 9:30 pm on a Sunday night. I see that the Wax bus would only take us to Tropicana so I'm wondering is there another option for getting to the Flamingo or does it make more sense to take a cab? My guess is that a cab is the answer but I am worried about getting long hauled. Can anyone tell me exact directions to give to the cab driver? I saw that the cab fare would be about 16.45, what would I tip on that amount? TIA.

 

I like the Wax, but it would be more reasonable to take a cab from McCarran to the Flamingo Hotel.

If the fare was about $16, I'd just hand the driver a $20 bill & say keep the change.

I'm a little uncertain about most economical route, so I will leave that for somebody else.

Shuttle. Shouldn't be more than 15 minutes longer than a cab. And you sure won't get long-hauled. Stay out of Vegas cabs if you can unless you're going from Strip to Strip.

 

I've always taken a shuttle, but then again, I've always arrived in the morning. I would assume the shuttle desks are open 24hrs, but I really don't know.

 

You said "we". For two, it isn't much of a savings to take the shuttle.

 

If they're are 2 of you it would be cheaper and quicker to take a cab. Tell the cabbie no tunnel, if he does tunnel you give him $15 and walk away. If he doesn't give him $5 on top of the fare.

 

Yes, just two of us and I don't really care for shuttles unless they are super cheap like the Wax bus. We did that last time when we were staying downtown and although we has to wait at the airport a half hour for it to arrive, it dropped us off right where we were staying. I'm not afraid to stand up for my rights with a cab driver but I need to have the right information before I ask for anything. So I will tell him " No tunnel please, take Swenson to Flamingo." That should do it?

 

For two people, I agree the cab is the best choice.

If you did want the bus, I'd take the 108 to Flamingo Ave. and then the 202 to the Flamingo casino. $4 each.

Strip buses with luggage are a pain.

 

Take a cab with above directions unless your by yourself then shuttle would be cheaper. Why anybody would get off a plane to start their vacation dragging their luggage onto a city bus then walking in the heat fighting crowds towing same luggage over a few dollars is just beyond me.

 

Speaking for myself, I would say "money", especially if you're going downtown, is one factor. $2 for a bus ride, or $15/$20/$30 on a taxi or shuttle. But it also depends on how a person values time vs. money vs. convenience. Everyone has their own measures and preferences. All we can do is state that each method of transport cost $X to Y location, takes Z:ZZ amount of time, and has these advantages/disadvantages.

 

I agree, unless you're going downtown. As I said, last time we stayed downtown and took the wax from the airport and it dropped us off right at the hotel, the ride itself was probably just as fast (and a lot safer than a cab). But staying at Flamingo it's not worth taking the wax.
