This happened last week to my buddys wife(a dingbat) out in Arizona . She's packing to check out and go catch a flight home and discovers her wallet missing.
She didnt have a zerox copy of her licsense ,but luckily she had her passport. This ever happen to anybody and what did you do to get home? I would probably call the airline for starters to see what they normally do when this happens.

That blows. I have no idea what you would have to do. But I want to hear what the outcome would be if that happened.

This happened to my buddy in march when we were leaving Vegas. We got to the airport earlier than normal, he told the TSA right away, then they took him into a room for about 20 minutes. He met me on the other side and made it through quicker then I did actually waiting in line and going through security the normal way!

I usually travel with an expired ID and my passport as a back for this sort of situation (never needed them though). What I've wanted to do but never have gone through the effort is to go get a state issued ID (the type that isn't a driver's licence) so that I can have a non-expired form of ID to use as a backup in that situation.

You technically don't "need" to show ID in order to get on a flight. Basically, you just get there early and let them know; they can verify your identity by asking you personal questions based off of information in databases (credit report type stuff, like previous addresses, employers, etc.), and you're pretty likely to get an enhanced screening. It's a pain, but you'll definitely still be able to travel.

A Little off topic, I recently flew to Vegas with an expired license. Didn't realize it had expired until TSA let me know on the way out. The only thing I couldn't do was get a players card reprinted (of all things). The three casinos I tried all caught that the license had expired and wouldn't reprint the players card. I had cards from prior trips for all the casinos I cared about except I couldn't play in a poker tournament at the V. They found the account number but the cashier wouldn't take the registration without a card.

Leaving the country I have the usual passport photocopies. Hadn't really thought about it domestically but when I renewed the passport I also got a passport card; not sure why, mostly for grins. But it's the same size as a DL so that goes elsewhere in my ensemble just in case.

Happened to me. Was many years ago when I was flying back to San Diego for college. They verified me at the ticket counter with a couple questions, that was the only thing. It was post 9/11 but I don't remember exactly when.

    True.

This reminds me of one of those airline reality shows I once saw, I think for Southwest. A stereotypical paranoid middle-aged housewife type with her son was freaking out to an FA about them letting a man board without an ID. She feared he might be a terrorist and kept saying the airline was supposed to protect them. A Southwest supervisor shut her up by telling her (rightly so imo) that with the secondary screening they knew more about that guy than they did about her or her son. Haha.

As a tip, I keep a copy of my passport and ID in my email so can I pull it up from anywhere if I ever need it. Probably not the safest place to store it but there are other cloud options. So far I've never needed it though.

Not done this thank God but I came about a hair away from being denied entry into the USA in April. The pages on my passport were splitting apart and I should have got a new one. The customs guy was getting quite serious about not being able to let me in and spent ten mins asking me questions and going through my passport.

Outcome: they have logged my UK passport number and if I try to enter the USA with it again I will automatically be denied entry (he said).

A few years ago I spaced off my drivers license renewal. I was flying back home out of MDW and when I got to the checkpoint the lady there informed me that my license was one day expired and therefore not valid to use to fly.

Fortunately I had enough supporting ID that they let me in eventually.

I then realized what day it was. The day before was my b'day (September 10) and that day was, you guessed it, 9/11.

I'm kind of amused that they missed this when I checked my bags at the counter.

I lost my license mid trip awhile back. Had to go to LVPD to file a police report. That was the only way to get back on the plane. Now I go with two forms of ID, one stays in the room safe.

I travel with 2 wallets, One with current DL and CC's and it goes into the room safe as part of unpacking. The other has my expired DL and players cards..Twice though have been busted trying to get new players cards at the Gold Coast and the Rio..Rio was no problem as staying there, but GC had to go back to Rio room for the legit DL..
Never had a problem at both though using comp points to pay for anything.

Why not scan your current DL, passport, and any other needed document into your PC or other device. Then put it into an email and mail to yourself and significant other and save. If something happens and hopefully one of you still has your phone, etc you can pull that up as proof of identity to get you thru the crisis. This is what we do when cruising and traveling overseas...luckily haven't had to use it.....

The problem is that a digital copy can be manipulated. They want to see the physical ID to make sure it is a valid, government issued document, and there is a good chance the digital scan will not be accepted.

The only reason I have a digital copy of my passport is so that if it is lost/stolen while I'm traveling, I have a copy of the number so they can look me up more easily ;-) Also, so I don't have to get my passport out of the safe each time I need to add the number when getting airline tickets etc. I'm thisclose to having the number memorized, but I don't quite use it often enough.....

A few years ago I was in Minneapolis, left the hotel and apparently my DL had fallen out of my wallet (they found it and mailed it home). Fortunately I had my Passport so getting on the plane was no problem.

My State allows online lost DL application and you can print out a black and white copy.

The day after I get home I'm back at the airport for another trip. Dumbass forgets his Passport at home! Airport won't take the temporary DL. Thinking real hard.. Ahh! I have a Concealed Carry Permit from Massachusetts that has my photo on it. THEY HAD TO ACCEPT IT! Rules are it has to be a "Government issued photo ID". Delta had no problem but one TSA dork did so I asked for his Supervisor. He yelled at the guy and let me through, no pat down, regular screening.

When I got to San Jose I couldn't rent a car though. All the rental agencies wanted a real driver's license. Cab fares cost less than the rental car would have anyway.

I usually wait a month when I get a new driver's license then for $50 "lose" it and keep the second one in a safe at home. No it won't help me on the road in renting a car but I can be up and running real quick if the same situation happens again.

I've heard from a couple of people that not having an ID will get you through quicker than if you had one (I think I'll skip that, though...)
Last week I had a TSA agent remind me that my licence is due for renewal in December. Didn't know what to make of that, but I thanked him before I left.

Ha, yeah that would be a gamble and you'll probably end up in some database.

However I think it may have some merit because I get SSSS'd pretty often. TSA hates me or something. But it actually speeds me up if there is a long line at security because they pull me aside to go through secondary security and go right past the line. A TSA agent will sexually molest me a little bit, sometimes run the bomb sniffer thing over my bag but usually not open it, ask me a couple questions and then let me go. Meanwhile I would have still been standing in the security line. If there is no line it would only add an extra couple of minutes.

The same goes for the boarding pass. When I get SSSS'd I can't print it myself but whenever I've told the agent working the line they've sent me right to the front. It doesn't matter if you're flying coach and have no elite status. The agent asks a couple questions, etc. When you get to the gate they'll call your name another time just to check your ID again and make sure you're there. Its a dumb ridiculous process, but net net it probably saves me time.
