If they could do it there would of been a big boom, but I think it's location and the fact it's surrounded with other buildings means it has to come down bit by bit.

I have to admit, I'm pretty surprised that the court is really letting them go through with it this time; I kept following the news half-expecting there to be another emergency stay put in place. Glad everyone can finally start moving forward now.

A piece of Las Vegas history is about to become... well... history. The Harmon Hotel -- that glossy, glassy blue structure at the forefront of the CityCenter project -- is finally coming down. And, those hoping for another spectacular Vegas-style implosion will be quite disappointed. The 29-story tower, also known as the world’s most expensive Cirque du Soleil billboard, is now being dismantled, piece by piece.

Now, if the rest of City Center went BOOM!, i'd be delighted.
Put the Boardwalk back in the spot along with the cheapo Surf Buffet with Butter Bean and Purple Haze..........:wink2:

I think it's an eyesore and can't wait to see it come down. If nothing else, it blocks a great view from the Mandarin Oriental bar.

I didn't have a chance to experience the Boardwalk, but I can't say that I'm a big fan of the glass and steel construction that replaced it.

The Boardwalk was also an eye sore to many people. Especially after the new Hotels came on board in the early to mid 90's.
But the Boardwalk, which a lot of people would make fun of, was a great place to visit on the Strip, IMO. They had cheap rooms, just a couple of TV monitors in the Sports Book, 24 hr Surf Buffet for your dining pleasure for a couple of bucks, a place to get popcorn and ice cream at the Deli on the way back to your hotel, extremely low table limits, Purple Reign cover band for your listening enjoyment, and easy access walking down the Strip between Bellagio and Monte Carlo.

The Boardwalk was a dive in a good way IMO.

The City Center would have been much more appealing with one big themed hotel like Xanadu.

By the way, they mentioned Xanadu having a Luxor like Atrium in 1975........little did the know that 20 years later there would be a Luxor Hotel.

I'm curious what's going to replace this, too. Could be a nice opportunity for something fun.

It would be nice if they placed a drugstore in that spot. I can't think of one that is nearby. :evillaugh

In the soon to be new space, I'm hoping for a CVS, a Tix4Tonight booth, a Starbucks, an open area for street performers, a store selling alcohol slushie drinks served in comically over-sized plastic containers, and a shop where I can buy a t-shirt with Zach Galifianakis on it along with a pop-culture catchphrase from the movie The Hangover.

Only in Vegas could a sleek glass tower standing next to a fake Eiffel Tower, comedy castle and cartoonised New York skyline be considered an eyesore :)
