    My Trip Report

Just a few pictures and observations from my trip. Me and my BF (T) had originally planned on using our express comps to pay for a terrace suite at the MGM Grand. Well, long story short – even though I had given Bellagio twice as much play as T on our last stay there together, they chose to give him an awesome offer – and me no offer at all. I called a host – but all she did was get marketing to generate me an offer – one I wasn’t happy with. T still wanted to use his offer, and I couldn’t blame him. I don't think he was going to get that good of an offer elsewhere. Bellagio's marketing offers can be amazing.

I cold called a host at MGM Grand, who agreed to comp me one night in a terrace suite, plus $500 FP, $500 food and a limo. So it looks like our trip together was turning into two separate trips. That’s OK – we are both OK in Vegas solo. It actually turned out just fine – we got some alone time, and some together time. Luckily our cell phones worked great and we were on the phone with each other about 5 times a day.

I will post the TR as a reply.

    MGM Grand

I enjoyed my stay here. While the property is big, you do learn your way around and the overhead signs really help. For me, having that many slot machines to choose from – well, I was a happy slot camper.

The suite was very nice, and I was able to get into it by 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. My host had left me a nice basket of goodies. Just an observation, most definitely not a complaint - the terrace in my suite was much smaller than you see in the pictures – but certainly large enough for me. I just want people to know that the sizes will vary.

I was very impressed that I called when I got into the suite to let them know that I couldn’t dead bolt the door – and the problem was resolved by the time I got back to my suite that afternoon.

Checking in I was impressed with the customer service as well. I headed into the Stay Well Lounge and was told by the woman there that M Life didn’t want people with comp offers checking in there – she said I would need to use the invited guest line. But she said she would take my information and call me when the suite was ready. She called at 1:00 to let me know I could get into the suite in about 45 minutes and that I was all checked in - and all I would need to do was to pick up keys. She also arranged for someone to come to the lounge to get luggage so I wouldn’t have to wait in the very long line. Good Customer Service!

The suite was nice and I was glad I got the chance to stay there. I don’t think I’d go for a multi-level suite again – just too much for just me, and inevitably whatever you needed at the time was on the level you were not currently on :). It was nice having the terrace and I did enjoy my breakfasts out there, which was about all the time I spent out there as my ass was usually parked in front of a slot machine :)
    .
The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The suite was quiet, and I slept pretty good.

    Food

Hope you aren’t disappointed. No foodie here. I ate at the Stage Deli, hot dog and potato salad, the buffet a few times (not great, not bad – it filled the hole), room service, French Onion Soup and chicken strips (French Onion soup was just OK ), fast food court, pizza. For breakfast every morning I had a bagel and juice. A food comp is completely wasted on me. If I spent $250 of my $500 food comp, I’d be surprised.

Pictures - below is a pic of the goodies my host sent, the view from my terrace, and 3 shots of my terrace. More pics to come!

Below are pictures of the suite - don't know how I missed a picture of the bedroom, but I did.

    Gambling

I gambled – let’s put it that way - a lot. I won’t go into the details of my degeneracy. This trip was a complete opposite of my November trip. In November, two of my favorite slots, Siberian Storm and Day of the Dead – kicked my ass – while the Ultimate X machines were kind (with 2 hand pays).

On this trip – complete opposite. I hit two hand pays, one on Siberian Storm, one on Day of the Dead – and the Ultimate X machines were brutal. I also hit one on Siberian Storm with T while at the Bellagio – we were using his card at the time – so technically it was his hand-pay :).

I ended up only spending about 1/3 of my bankroll, but ended up giving T about 1K because he was down around 3K more than me.

I earned 195,000 tier credits, which gave me around $240 in both express comps and point play. On this trip, my tier credits, points and EC’s came out exactly as they should. On my last trip, somehow I earned almost the exact same amount of tier credits (196,000), but only managed to get $155 in EC’s and point play.

When I went to check out, I was told the suite was fully comped. Not sure why as I certainly don’t think I gave them enough play to pay for a $700 a night suite for 3 nights, plus $500 in free play and $500 in food. But who am I to argue. As of now, I still have my $1,300 in express comps.

    Random thoughts/comments:

    - T had the TSA pre-check both ways. They let me sneak in on the flight home. That sure is nice.

    - I liked the MGM Grand, but I admit it – I still love the Bellagio more. I did give them quite a bit of play one day when visiting T – so hopefully I will get back on their “good” list. T was in a Salone suite and it was really nice. I know they haven’t been updated yet, but I thought it was a really great room - and the perfect size. I also really like the food options at the Bellagio better as well. Plus I really like the vibe of the casino. It’s laid back, quiet, classy. The music they played at MGM Grand – well, let’s just say that I must be too old to appreciate it.

    - Not sure if I was on drugs when I packed, because I forgot more than I brought. I forgot a pair of sandals. I forgot razors. I forgot my brush. Yikes. I guess I need to go back to making a list and checking it twice before I leave.

    - We did also head for the Linq area – very nice. We checked out the Cromwell. It was nice, but I can’t see every staying here. The casino was very small. I had gotten two $25 free play coupons in the mail for the Quad. That too was very nice and very red. We also stopped into the Flamingo for an hour or so.

    - I kept attempting to play the Lion’s Share machine but it was always busy. I came across it one day with no one playing it. I must have looked like a complete idiot because I literally ran to get it. Of course then it wouldn’t take my money. The attendant helped me. Apparently, it is so old that it won’t take new bills or TITO's. So I played my hundred and obviously didn’t win the big jackpot.

    - Drunk happenings – only had one instance of dealing with a drunk. I’m sitting at a machine and some young guy directs his obviously intoxicated friend to the chair right next to me. The guy immediately passes out and his head rolls back and practically lands on my shoulder. His friend clearly had no clue what to do. I told him that they have wheelchairs for just this situation and he really needed to get security involved. They came and debated on whether they should call an ambulance or not or just get the guy to his room. I left before they decided – and resisted the urge to snap a picture :).

Begging for money happenings – I’m sitting at the Ultimate X machine close to the lobby when a young guy plops down next to me and wants to know if I speak English. I said yes and he said everyone out front was German. He then starts his story, that him and his wife were in a “bit of a jam”. I didn’t want to waste his time :), so I immediately put my hand up, started playing my machine again, and told him I wasn’t giving him any money. He scooted off without a word – I suppose to find someone more naive – or maybe I’m just jaded.

Next trip, October for 5 nights. First 3 nights at the Rio. I will be attending the happenings for the 30th anniversary of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Last 2 nights – open.

    Thanks for reading!

Edited to say - I just re-read this and I must have used the word "nice" about a billion times. So I guess my trip was NICE :)

    Nice Handpays!

Did they take your EC's to pay off the suite first, or leave them alone? I was pretty surprised on my last trip to MGM that while asking for a late checkout at the mlife desk, she informed me that everything was comped without touching the EC's. I hadn't even mentioned checking my play yet..

Wow, nice :evillaugh trip with the handpays and comps.

Interesting about the size of the terrace. When you look at exterior pictures of the wing with the terrace suites, it looks like they should all be identical. I wonder if maybe you were on the lowest floor that has those suites and that made a difference somehow?

Does that suite have a built-in fridge? The room descriptions don't mention one and I can never tell from pictures. It looks like there's room under the wet bar area next to the sink, and I'm guessing one panel there is the minibar, but wondering if the other is a fridge or storage.

Thanks! No the agreement was that he would comp me the first night and I would pay for the other 2 nights (which I planned to do mostly with express comps). But when I went to check out, I was told the suite was showing as fully comped and I didn't owe anything on it.

Thanks! No the suite didn't have a fridge. It's really the only improvement I could make to that suite. It was a nice suite :)

Thanks for the trip report and the pics. I loved having a balcony the one time I stayed at Cosmopolitan. Sounds like you made out well with the gambling and your comps. Good going

Thanks. Yes, I would love to try a balcony again, but would probably do it on an early spring or late fall trip, so I could spend more time out there.

NICE! I appreciate the MGM Terrace photos; we always spend a couple of nights each trip in a Cosmo Terrace Suite and have talked about trying the MGM Terrace suites. I didn't realize the sizes varied. Did yours have a hot tub?

Thanks. No, really what you see in the pictures is what was there. There was the weird funky couch thing and the table. No hot tub. Now that would have been nice!

It was a nice trip :evillaugh Thanks!

Josie.. Thanks for the trip report. Love your details and photo's. Nice offer you received from your "Cold Call". MGM is too big for me.... I get totally turned around.. probably because I need my glasses for distance only..so rarely take them along unless I'm going to see a show or drive, so I'm unable to read those signs telling me where to go. The suite you stayed in was amazing.. High End living there. Hope you are enjoying the mild weather we are having here in CG MN now that you are home.. a little cooler than Vegas.

They removed the hot tubs and changed the outdoor furniture when they did the latest round of room remodeling. The hot tub would have been nice to keep, but overall, the interior decor after the remodel is 10 times glitzier than the old room - you can find some older videos on YouTube.

Thanks - it was fun! Boy the weather in CG is absolutely beautiful. We were gone during most of the rain and with the exception of yesterday, it's been beautiful since we got back. Although, I admit, the after vacation depression is starting to sink in with having to go back to work tomorrow :(

Sweet room. Also sweet for them comping the whole thing (although your play earned it)

I have had zero luck in those IGT games you play- don't know if i would have the confidence at 7.50/spin lol.

    Thanks for the pics

Thanks! I don't typically start out with that bet, but work my way up to it. I usually start out at $3-4 a spin.
