Best buffets downtown?

I usually stay at the GN and their buffet is ok. Are there any buffets downtown that anyone recommends? Thx.

 

Agree with Sonya. MSS buffet, especially Tuesday night (steak night)

 

I agree with Sonya. The Garden Court Buffet @ Main Street Station is the best IMO for downtown.

I've always preferred the Fremont over MSS. MSS has a better selection but their food lacks flavor compared to the Fremont.

 

I also love MSS and GN. The others I haven't been to.

 

Never have understood the love for MSS. My first choice is Fremont. Bottom line, though - downtown ranks third behind the Strip for quality and off-Strip casinos for value.

 

Chef with a reality check! Maybe it's the ambiance and/or Manny at the omlet station in the morning. But I think the MSS buffet has been in a slow decline for years now in terms of food selection and quality.

 

Seems like the MSS slips a little, then rebounds back during subsequent trips. My last trip there I was disappointed in the Seafood Buffet. Crab legs were small and spindly. Yet there were trips where the crab legs were huge, sweet, and juicy. I figure it all depends on the supply available. But this last trip it was the VARIETY that was lacking. The seafood buffet had no fresh steamed or baked clams and no oysters.

I still like MSS for breakfast. Good price value and the fruit is decent. Even lunch is a good value. I hardly eat lunch but it's pretty decent. I've found lately that dinner is a crapshoot.

 

Up until last week, I would have fully agreed with MSS being the best buffet downtown.......but, I was there last Thursday night and it was disappointing. The meats, except for the ribs, were overcooked and dry, and they didn't have a large variety of vegetables. Just not the best as it used to be. Next time, we'll try Fremont's buffet.

 

I don't think there are any great buffets downtown. MSS and Fremont are reliable. I've eaten the Golden Nugget buffet twice and I won't go back unless something changes drastically. Regarding the comment about value vs. the strip. I have to disagree. The best buffets on the strip are the price of a gourmet restaurant downtown. They have better selection, flavor etc. but at more than double the price. Not my idea of value. In my opinion, buffets are quick fuel that allow you to get back to the casino. If I want a better experience, I'll gladly pay for (or get comped) a nicer place.

 

I agree on the decline of the MSS buffet. Used to be a go to but now I would eat the breakfast special at Magnolias. Might have to try the Fremont buffet next trip after reading the comments.

 

I thought the Sunday breakfast or brunch buffet at the Fremont was pretty good. But I do like the GN breakfast buffet, I feel it is a step up from the Boyd buffets.

 

IMHO you are spot on. The GC is better than the MSS. A few years ago the MSS had filet and shrimp night. Now it is a very cheap cut of meat and small shrimp over cooked. But I am spoiled living on the Gulf coast.

 

Unfortunately the price of food whole sale and retail has gone up very fast. This puts pressure on the quality and price.

 

vegas buffets? possibly downtown?

hey guys any buffets you guys can reccomend? ive gone to the fremont casino buffet, and its actually decently good. The price is fair, but now i want to try something else. i also dont want to expect strip casinos prices (golden nugget=45$$ crazy)....suggestions?
