Table Games Is las vegas still a blackjack detination?

Blackjack is the most popular table game at any casino. How can Vegas compete with rules such as hit on soft 17, no surrender, no even money when dealer shows ace, blackjack that pays 6/5 instead of 3/2, automatic shufflers i can go on and on. I just came back from Vegas and it was my first trip in 5 years. I am a blackjack player with a limited bankroll about 5K. I doubt if vegas makes sense for blackjack players with 3-6K bankroll anymore. It is still a great destination for vacationing however I would not gamble there anymore.

 

I assume your question is rhetorical, but the short answer is that there are still plenty of gamblers who play at tables with the bad rules. As long as that happens, the casinos will keep putting those tables out there.

 

Because people who want to play lower limit are doing it for the fun and experience and not to make money...

They keep increasing the limit of the "bad rule" tables until they reach an inflection point and see a drop off in players...then they have found the sweet spot.

You can find "good rule" tables at higher limits...

 

I agree with your sentiment, and feel BJ Jumped the Shark for most people when S17 disappeared first at the red chip, followed by the green chip and also the black/purple level at most Vegas tables. They have enough people who will play crappy H17 tables and also crapjack (6/5) which I have seen spread at the black chip level at the Cosmo.

There are a few decent green chip tables on the Strip (Bellagio and Aria offer 2D DAS S17; Bellagio and Aria and also MGM also offer 6D S17, Surrender, DAS RSA) but the comps dried up for spreading green to black chip action.

I played BJ nearly exclusively for my first fifteen years in Vegas, but after the Stardust closed (the same game also disappeared from Wynn which now requires $200 min for DD S17 DAS) and their easy comps on their great game went away, my play shifted to poker (live and video), with occasional play at the three mentioned above and also Cosmo (at the few 3/2 green chip shoes they offer) just because I like to drink there and they still comp for my nominal play (though I expect that to change when the new owners get established).

My local conditions are not much better and I stopped playing locally in the late 1990s. I used to spread through black or purple chip action, but I'm more satisfied with green chip with black reserved for a strong situation or when I'm running well. Don't make as much, and lose playing VP (even w/ good pay tables), but my trips are less stressful and I have a much lower risk tolerance than I had in my 20s. Retirement is around the bend and I don't want to add years to my workload as a result of large Vegas losses, which can and does happen during short trips.

Plenty of low minimum games ($5) downtown with good rules: 3/2, DAS and Surrender. I like the strip but I play the vast majority of my BJ play downtown. Avoid the party pits downtown as most of these are 6/5.

 

Yes, still a BJ town but turning more into a club and shopping location.

Although there are still plenty of tables, the machines are really taking over.

 

I don't have a huge bankroll so I cannot do 100-500 spread. I assume most people have about 5K when they go to Vegas. I can guarantee there is thousands of BJ players around, just like me who will not go all way to Vegas to play crapjack as you put it, when there are casino resorts in almost every state.

 

The bj pros that I know of doesn't head to Vegas much but favorable conditions are still there but searching for them eats away much of your time. Many of them head to PA nowadays for favorable bj conditions.

 

Exactly the same situation Viva Las Vegas. Also from Chicago and avoid the local games like the plague. Also used to frequent the Stardust and play their 2D game for days on end. Winning a fair amount, but being taken care of well without dealing with points, tiers, and all the other BS.

If most people had 5k bankrolls why would there be low limit tables and slots? that are always packed...

 

people dont have a clue, i notice all the time 3/2 tables empty while 6/5 full. same miniums people go crazy when they hit bj onn 6/5 . its the norn now, people dont know what real bj is, same way they sit dowm at csm , or s17 and all other bad rules there just here to party .

Add one more to this list! The Stardust was my 'home-away-from-home' for many, many years. (But I'm not from Chicago!)

One note for paperposter:
I have become accustomed to 'H17' when playing two-deck. I love S17, but I'd rather play a 2-deck H17 game than a 6 or 8-deck S17 game.
If I do play a shoe or CSM (which is typically when I'm too drunk or too tired to count), then I want S17, DAS, LS & RSA...and at $5 & $10 minimums, those are virtually non-existent - however, quite plentiful at H17, DAS, LS & RSA.

 

For a person who does not count there is no disadvantage to playing at a CSM table. So there would be no reason for them to avoid them.

 

Well there is one disadvantage when playing at a CSM table. More hands per hour.

 

This. One of my friends I go to Vegas with will only play at a $5 table. I would rather play with him at a shitty table than each of us play by ourselves. So I play at a table with bad rules to play with my friend that I only see once a year. I don't play more than I can afford to lose (like hopefully most people) so I don't get too excited if it is 6:5 vs 3:2. But sometimes it works, like anything else in Vegas. Our last trip we sat at a $5 table around 4pm. He lost his bankroll of $100 for the night in 20 minutes or so. I stayed until 3 am, the pit boss was like "you are still here?" and I won back pretty much everything I had lost on the previous nights.

 

I agree with that, I would put the people that have a $5k bankroll as a very small percentage definitely not "most people"

More hands dealt per hour...not necessarily more hands played per hour. THAT number is entirely up to the player.
