Last few trips I've been getting a free room at the Golden Nugget. My play is mostly blackjack where I have an average bet of about $70 and I log lots of hours. From reading on here I think I'm a little lucky to be getting my room fully comped each time, and I assume I'm on the very low end of that scale.

Sometimes, like on the last day of a trip, I like to bet much lower, sometimes at different games. For instance, I'll play some $5 let it ride or some really small stakes craps. Basically just killing time until my flight. On those occasions I don't give my players card because I don't want to screw up my rating. Is this realistic? If I were the casino, I'd think that any theo is better than no theo, but I'm worried it doesn't work this way. Betting low like this will lower my average bet but put more hours into the system for that trip, of course, but is that a wash or will it hurt my comp situation?

While CET/TR looks at ADT, MGM/Mlife looks at trip totals. So in fact, it depends on what players club you are talking about.

MGM divides it by days the same as everybody else. For a small/average roller, they don't smooth things out much over several trips, either, and neither does CET.

I had probably 7 or 8 MGM trips with very consistent play and consistent offers, then I had one low play trip and my offers dropped off a cliff, and then most recently a high play trip and my offers spiked. I see the same thing with CET.

If you didnt give them your players card then they dont have the low play tracked...if it was your last day there they may or may not count that as a day and give you zero play.

I dont know how they deal with your check out day...since you are usually only there a few hours in the AM, I wouldnt expect them to count that as a full gambling day.

The low stake LIR might not effect your offers too bad, since its such a high HA game...but low stakes craps will hurt your ADT

If I have a short final day... or a short first day, I usually play at a different casino rather than go unrated. I've found that I can get some "hoping for more action" type offers from the short play days and I don't mess up my home casino rating.

I found this is definitely the case with CET. On a monster run the last time in Vegas and ended up playing at a much higher (maybe 4x) than typical for a long stretch. I started getting much better mailers than before and I was told that if I were to pop in at my local CET property and play even a couple hours at my "normal" level, my Vegas comps would be reduced.

This stuff really is rather simple. The casino has to come up with a system to measure the worth of each player. The one that is that basis is your AVERAGE DAILY PLAY. If you have some low days, they get factored into the average. Simple math. If you look like a small player, you get treated like a small player.

(yes, there are lots of other variables such as game theo, etc.... but it still comes down to amount of money put into play)

It seems really weird that $150/day for a week is less valuable to a casino than $500/day for one day, but I'm sure they have their reasons.

Edit: Particularly considering the food/drink/hotel money earned from the week-long guest compared to the overnight guest.

Not really that weird when you look at numbers...Hotels make most the their money through gamblers so the more you gamble, the more valueable you are to them since you will potentially lose more money. You are going to be buying food/drink/stuff anyways when you are at their resorts...so why would they give people stuff free that they would be buying anyways...

Gambling revenue has been less than 50% of total revenue for some years now, but that's besides the point.

    $150/day for 7 days is $1,050.

    $500/day for 1 day is $500.

Since they determine comps based on your average daily theoretical loss, the person who gambled $500 in one day in this scenario is comped more than the person who gambled $1,050 over 7 days.

That's the part that I find weird.

But if they are going to comp a room for the $500/day person that is what...maybe $100...if they comp the $150/day persons room that $700 in hotel comps. maybe they only get 3 nights comped still $300. also, on a longer trip there is the risk the person spreads around thier gambling...unlikely they're going to gamble all 7 days at the same casino...but only their for one night you'll prob stay at your home base

They could give them each one night. They have many options other than a full week of free rooms. As things actually are now, the $1,050 person gets $0 in comps, and the $500 person gets something.
