Will contacting a host do me any good in this situation? (Aria/Mlife)

    The details:

    1. I’m contemplating a stay at Aria (or perhaps Vdara).

    2. Over the past few years, I’ve played very little at Mlife properties. And even when I did play, I did not play “intelligently”, from a comp-chasing perspective. (That is, I would play 15 minutes a day over a four day trip rather than an hour on one day of that trip…or I would stop in for a meal and pay with ECs and not play at all, etc.) So, my history will not garner me anything more than casino rate.

    3. A few years ago (2009-2012) I gave most of my play to Mlife. I’m not a High Roller by any means, but my play was good enough for comped rooms/suites at any of the properties and a modicum of free play and/or food credit. (I was platinum…now I have 2304 tier credits.)

    4. During this trip, I would play at a level similar to that in the 2009-2012 time frame. Plus, now I play a lot of VP…back then it was just BJ and craps. So I think my theo is probably stronger today.

    5. I had a host at Aria who has since moved on. When I called Mlife last year, they told me I had been assigned a new one…I think I wrote his name down somewhere.

So, what should I do? Does it make any sense to contact a host ahead of time and let him know that my play will be similar to what it was a few years ago when I stayed at Mlife properties...and like it is today at Wynn? Or should I just book a room (rates are actually pretty cheap the days I’m looking at) and look one up after I’ve put in some play?

If I do call/email a host now, what should be my strategy? Do I have any shot of getting him to commit to something upfront? I really don’t know what my theo is at Wynn. But I usually get a Tower room, some freeplay (usually $400/trip) and some room charges (about $100-150/day on average) on the back end. I certainly wouldn’t expect all the “extras” upfront, but I know my play is worth a room, if not an entry-level suite upfront.

Or should I just try to get him to commit to “if you play X, I’ll comp you Y”?

Thanks for your help, oh wise ones! :nworthy:

Don't know too much about mlife but it can't hurt to talk to a host to see what they can do for you ahead or time...worst case they say no and say they'll need to comp you on the back end.

im a little confused are you only playing 15 minutes a day . you have a host and history so call and ask , but there looking for around 200$ a hand for 4 hours a day for a comp room , they do have great latitude on descretionary if you take a big hit so thats good, they can always offer you a casino rate

Okay, I didn’t realize I had made it so difficult. I’ll try to simplify:

    1. I KNOW what kind of play is expected in order to get a comped room. My play is enough to get a comped room.

    2. But, my recent history at Mlife properties would not show that my play is sufficient to get a free room at Aria (because that play has gone to Wynncore). In fact, my recent history would show that I’m not much of a gambler at all.

    3. I would like to get a comped room upfront.

Or, even simpler: I play enough to get a comped room...but they don't know that...will I be able to get anything upfront?

From the information you provided, in your case, it would solely depend on the host you contact. The host may review your past play and determine if it's even worth comping you upfront but without any real recent activity, most hosts would be skeptical. Did you have a host before, and if so, do you still have his/her contact information still? Your best bet is to contact a host you had a relationship with previously and maybe he/she will get you a room upfront. But if not, your next option would be just do your normal gambling and then check with the host office prior to leaving and see if your gambling warrants any discretionary or back end comps. Since you stated you already know what kind of play is need and required for a comp room, I don't really see where the issue is, besides you wanting to get a comped room upfront.

i figured you knew what they wanted that why i was confused.

you have a host asigned call and ask, wurst case the give you a casino rate or he upgrades you a rack rate room or gives some free play or rc or says stop by at check out, telepohone calls are free

hosts have alot of leway, thats my 2 cents

also depends on weekend vs weekday and how busy they are wich you know

Won't hurt to call and ask, btu with Aria, I would not expect much. On the backend, however, it sounds like they will take care of you. Good luck. Let everyone know how it turns out

I'd email the host you were assigned and give a quick explanation of your current play, they may even be able to check it out with your Wynn host (I know a CET host checked mine with MGM). Tell them you'd like to stay and play at Aria and maybe make it your new home. Worst case he'll tell you he'll evaluate your play at the end of your trip which is no different than if you didn't contact him. But I think you have a good chance of him giving you a room/suite upfront. I was away from MLife for a few years and after that was when they were the most generous, I know your situation is a little different because you had light play there but it should be pretty obvious to them you weren't really playing there.

Thanks guys. I knew folks like UKFan can get something like this done, but I wasn't sure if smaller players could. I'll see if I can't find the host's name and get in touch with him. As you all said, worst case scenario, I talk to one prior to check out and (hopefully) at least get the room cost taken care of.

I suppose it would be a good idea to call the credit dept first and make sure my LOC is still good.

@KickinChicken (or any other VP players): any 9/6 DDB at Aria at $5 or less? (Vpfree doesn't list it, but I'm guessing there is). Any good $1-5 pay tables on bartops?

Agreed. If you have or open a LOC, I think the host will be less skeptical.

You should have no worries since your play will be enough to get your room comped on the back end (worst case scenario).

I don't play DDB but they have a lot of 9/6 JoB at $5 and those same machines have 8/5 BP so if it has DDB its probably 9/6 at that level. On the $1 games on those same multi-denom machines the JoB drops down to 9/5. They have these on machines throughout the casino and on bartops, at least at City Bar and Sports Bar which are nice places to play and drink. Also, I can't say for sure but I think the machines outside the high limit room give you TCs at an accelerated rate.

    definitely call a host.

you should be able to get taken care of upfront based on your previous history.

those stupid little trips won't have any effect on what a host looks at.
