Going to Vegas with some buddies the weekend of Sept 5th. We would love to watch the Ohio St/Virginia Tech game in the Sports book skybox at MGM (my usual property). A few questions...

Do you need to be a certain player level to make a reservation? Can reservations be made? (I'm currently gold).

What's it like in the skybox? (I've never been).

Is there a drink or spend minimum?

If we can't do the skybox can reservations be made for the tables in the back of the sports book?

Or perhaps are we better off making a reservation at TAP?

We really don't want to stick someone in the sportsbook saving a group of seats together.

    All advice appreciated, thanks.

Also, does anyone have offers going into September yet? I just used "the buzz" offer over the Memorial Day weekend and had a blast but my other offers expire July 31.

I used the Skybox seating back in April during the NBA playoffs. I set up the reservation through my host. So I'm not sure a certain tier level is required, but a host probably is. Only other way I can guess to do it would be to know the sportsbook managers personally. The skybox was nice, but nothing really that special. Just more room. There was no drink or spend minimum the weekend I did it

I did the skybox a couple years ago. I am also MLIFE gold.... but we did it at the end of august(baseball / preseason football). We were told that it wasn't guaranteed... if a High Roller came in and wanted it they could bump us. If it was a football weekend I'm sure we would have been bumped out of it. They didn't ask for a minimum bet to get it, but there was about 12 of us putting in bets for baseball and horse races.
About the skyboxes..... they are awesome. Really comfy recliners. You can see all the screens and you have a couple TVs in the skybox that you can tune into whatever game/race you want.
The regular waitress would come upstairs and get us the comped drinks with the coupons just like they did downstairs. A couple of the guys went out and grabbed a couple cases of beer and food and nobody ever gave us a problem (but I'm not sure if that was really allowed).
I'm not sure if you can actually book it in advance, but when you get there just go up to the sportbook and ask for the manager. They will book if for you if it is available.

You're supposed to be Platinum to get into the MGM Skybox.

I've always wanted to go over and try it out, but it just seems so far away when there are other options so much closer to the Aria.

What's the deal with the raised area in the Aria sports book? Is that for Platinum guests as well? I've never wandered up there but I think I'm gonna give that a go next time I'm around.

That's the private viewing area for Aria. Not sure what the requirement is. Like my post above in this thread, I have gotten seats there in the past through my host during football season. I actually like this area more than the skybox at MGM. Better seating, better TVs, and 550 Pizza next door!

When you went into the private viewing area, did they ask who you were and what you were doing up there? Or have a security guard posted?

I actually did go up there to watch the Derby... the gf wandered up there without knowing and it was packed and she saved us prime seats. But I didn't ask what the qualifications were to get a seat up there. I walked in, watched the race, and walked out almost immediately. I was in there maybe 10 minutes.

I'll try the Platinum thing next time and see how it goes.

I have only done it twice and both times during football season. So it was pretty busy. I was given a wristband for access. Sometimes there was security at the entrance, other times not. I did observe security ask one person to leave who was up there without the wristband. I know I have walked up there briefly other times to check scores without anyone stopping me, but it was during very slow times

Good information. Did your host give you the wristband or did you get it from the book?

The host set it up. On the day of the games, I saw the assistant book manager, who gave me the wristband. She had a seating chart for the reserved area with the names of who had each seat. I got two right in front  I was a happy camper

Aha! Definitely sounds like it has to go through the host then. I will definitely inquire next time I'm in there. Thanks for the info!
