Hi. This is my first post so I might be in the wrong category here. I am going to Vegas this March. Have just received a TR registration. Of course, it's Gold, not Platinum, which is what I would need to get out of resort fees, etc. I'm staying at Bally's which is a CE hotel.

In order to achieve Platinum status, I have to use a TR Visa Card to accumulate points.

What I would like to know is: Can a Canadian get a TR Visa Card? All the applications I have looked at will only accept US addresses. Perhaps there's someone else on here from Canada who might be able to answer my question.

    Thanks

    Hi Pianoman!

Just want to clarify - the total rewards program has a card where you earn points for free while gambling etc. You are able to get platinum status through playing as well as shopping & dining at the resort....you just need to spend enough of course!

You don'y HAVE to have the Visa to get the Platinum status, it can just get you there quicker!

Not sure about the Canadian address though!

I was told at TR desk that Canadians are not eligible to apply for the credit card. That was last summer.

    Short answer, no.

If you had a vacation property or something similar, i.e. a mailing address , you could apply for a card.

I don't think you earn any tier points by shopping or dining. Only from gambling. There are two types of points: Tier and Reward

Tier points are what makes you Platinum or Diamond. They are only available by gambling.

Reward points are available by gambling, shopping or using the credit card. You can spend reward points like money in CET properties.

CET runs a special promotion where if you get their credit card, they will make you Platinum but I think it's only for the first year.

Thanks for the clarification, good to know!

I had just spoken with the identity desk at Cosmo......they said that they give 5 points for every $1 spent on non-gambling, vs 1 point for every 1.50 gambling. They said that did count towards Tier, but now I'm wondering if the person I spoke with was accurate? With the price of rooms there, everyone would be Gold Status pretty quick....hmmmmm??

Too bad that the Canadians can't get the card though!

That's not correct. You need an American Social Security Number. Our Canadian Social Insurance numbers do not work. Otherwise people could just open a PO box in the States and get the card.

Thanks for the information. I presume I will get some kind of a TR Rewards card in the mail though. Not a visa, of course, I won't use it enough to get platinum status so I guess I'll be paying the resort fees during my 4 days at Bally's next year. One thing that really sucks is that the wireless is only good for one device.

Geez, in this day and age, even a Super 6 offers Wifi for any number of devices and the rooms average $80 a night or less. A far cry from the hotels on the strip.

Even registering for the standard TR card (not credit card) online, you will not receive the actual plastic card until you arrive. You should have received a notification of the # though when you registered.

Not sure about the reference to Cosmo - they are not a TR property - unless that was just a comparison.

A snowbird told me they got an American CC (not TR), because they have a physical address in the US. They own a condo.

Just thinking, I have a Macy's card and had another store card before I cancelled it. Not sure if I could make the Macy's card a CC. Not that I want to do that. I didn't have an American address.

    WHAT ARE
    TIER CREDITS?

Tier Credits are credits earned based on your play in a Total Rewards casino, making purchases at participating restaurants and entertainment venues, and more. The Tier Credits you earn in a calendar year add up to determine your annual Tier Score. The more Tier Credits you earn, the more perks you earn. Remember, Tier Credits, which determine your Tier level, are different from Reward Credits.

Hmm, this is what is listed on the CET TR site - it doesn't only include the gambling $$'s.
My reference to Cosmo was because I had JUST spoken to the identity desk & they referred to all $$ to resort as counting towards tier, so presumed this was industry standard on the cards.

I've gotten Tier Credits from dining so it is possible to get them from other means then gambling.

I had to take the receipt from the restaurant down to the TR desk and a couple weeks later it showed up on my account.

Some of the restaurants will do it for you also. I know when we ate at Gordon Ramsay's Steakhouse at Paris, our server took care of making sure we got the tier credits for that dinner.

Guy Savoy won't lol....... it was kind of funny, the table next to me probably spent enough on dinner to make platinum but he only had a gold card and they actually told the guy paying he'd have to run down to the TR desk to get credits.
