I was just reflecting on my many trips I have taken with my Dad to LV since 1997, how things have changed with the town, how our gambling choices have changed, the wins, losses, the way we approach dining, the itinerary itself etc all as we plan our trip which leaves in 10 days.

Dad is a young 70 now, we always wonder if this is our last trip...one medical scare a few years ago had us concerned, but we survived. Certainly his age has slowed us a bit, not much but a little.

We look forward to the time away together every year, and can only hope these trips continue indefinitely as they mean a great deal to both of us...low roller, who plan to "step out" every year in hopes of "hitting it big", but mostly for the time to be together and have some laughs.

Do any of you have a regular Vegas trip with your Dad? Are you the Dad who travels with their son or daughter??? Girls this is as much for you as the boys out there.

How old is your parental travel companion, how long or how many trips have you had together? What has changed for you over the years...?

Thought this would be a fun topic for general discussion...

I'm finally getting my dad to join me on my upcoming trip in August. I'm taking him for a combination of his birthday and Father's Day. He's 55 (will be 56 by then), so I'm hoping there will be many more trips to follow! My uncle will also be coming with us. The 3 of us always have a lot of fun together.

My dad passed years ago and never got to go to Vegas with him. However, one of my fondest memories of the 2 of us is when we ironically went to Fenway.

So sorry for your loss, quite a coincidence re : Fenway...my Dad and I have some very fond memories of trips there as well, I have no continued that tradition w my Daughter...I will be 58 when she is old enough to gamble in Vegas, debating on when it would be appropriate to bring her sooner than that...

Fenway, I think it is wonderful to have these special times with your father. Oh - the memories you will carry with you forever..... priceless! Hubby & I are retired baby boomers and most of our trips include at least one of our daughters & sons-in-law. They are some of our favorite traveling companions & we always have a great time with them. I guess we have at least 10 trips with some of our family / always take many pictures & have great stories to tell when we get home. They will have these stories to share with our grandkids / great-grandkids long after we are gone.....

I am the "mom" and go with my son every August. For my son's 21st birthday gift, I gave him a Vegas trip with the sisters. Thirteen years later the tradition has continued. He is so hooked that one year he was living in Indonesia and still met us in Vegas.

With him living in Texas and me living in Minnesota and not seeing him as often as I would like.....I can't think of a better place to connect yearly.

Yes, we both have created some fun memories together.

I miss my Dad, gone 24 years now. Wish we went on a Vegas trip together. We could have, but back then I was too busy with making a living and trying to survive with my family.

Now I'm 57 with more disposable income under my belt. I would give anything if I could somehow make a trip to Vegas with him.

    I know we would have a blast...

Never got a chance to with my dad. Lost him when I was 19, about 12 years ago. Up to that point, he preferred the shorter drive to Reno and Tahoe from Northern California.

I've actually just finished scheduling a Vegas trip with my mom. Will be this upcoming July 4th weekend. I think she might have gone to Vegas at some point in the distant past, but nowhere near its current form. Really looking forward to it.

Lost my dad when I was a kid 48 years ago. Lost my mom 22 years ago, but before that we would do Vegas trips together.

We stayed at the Sands every trip. She played slots until her hands were black from the coins! I had to pry her away from the machines to go eat. Many good memories too numerous to mention!

    Damn, it's hell getting old.

My dad also died when I was a child but I've made 3 trips to Vegas with my mom over the last 10 years. She is 74 now and still very active.

It's fun to be able to travel with her still. She also went with my boys and me to Disney World and Universal in January, we were all surprised how much fun it was.

I've actually never been to Vegas with my Dad. He took me for my 21st birthday and we returned three years later for my 24th birthday. We then went for my 25th birthday, my 26th birthday and later that same year for his 55th. We didn't make it out for my 27th this year but we're in the process of trying to figure out when we can go this year.

My dad and I are extremely alike in our Vegas ways. Outside of a reservation or two at a nice restaurant we have absolutely nothing planned and we love it this way. We can go wherever we want without having to worry about having to be somewhere at a certain time and it is truly relaxing that way for us. I'm not opposed to going with somebody else but not many of my friends are the type I'd like to go on a Vegas trip with. I do plan on taking a solo trip in the near future too.

He's actually on this message board but hasn't been on here much since our trip in November.

Sounds like you and your dad and me and my dad have similar take on a Vegas trip. I have a core group of friends I do take Vegas trips with, but by far dad is my vegas companion. We have learned over the years to pic food choices ahead but we don't make reservations and never have a problem eating where we want any given night. Often if not always we dine at the bar.

An aside....in 1995 we took some of our pre-vegas gambling money (horse races were our thing then) and got in on Sam Adams' IPO-33 shares at $15/share. We cashed out yesterday. After taxes we profited $5300. That cash is coming to Vegas with us on top of our usual bankroll!! Look out. Here we come!!

Everyone... Thanks for sharing. All these stories make me cherish these yearly trips even more.

I am on the receiving end of a son's niceness. Each Christmas for the last 4 years, my widowed son... his wife was killed by a drunk driver... has bought me a plane ticket for Christmas night to Las Vegas for my Christmas present. All the family parties are over and we get to Vegas about 9 pm. We each get comps at The D and mostly go our own way to gamble. He checks on me some and we usually meet for meals. Most of the time we play in the same casino... but not usually together. Last year he rented me a scooter... I'm 80... and don't walk as fast as I used to. Next Christmas if you see a blond lady downtown whizzing by on a scooter... hopefully it will be me!

Yes and it was some of the best memories I have. Me and my bro would meet him in Vegas or Reno every year for the superbowl weekend. We also did a lot of day trips to Boomtown or Thunder Valley. The memories were great and I will miss these trips. The last one was in April when we put him a wheel chair and hit the BJ tables. It was our last trip and fun as ever. He had his cheat card memorized and could count with the best of them. Unfortunately, He passed away last week. All those memories were the best and great quality father sons time with the 3 of us cutting up at the table.

Me and my bro talked about how to make a vegas display for his funeral, but were overruled by the wifes.

Dad, you will be missed and thank you for all your gambling insights - and teaching me to gamble, count, and make money at black jack. I will always smile thinking about all of our fun trips and love you more than you know.

Gentleman, my thoughts go out to you and your family for your loss, be strong and hang on to those memories. I will raise a glass in your father's honor when I arrive in town in a week.
