Not my first time to Vegas of course, but the first time I've had to cancel a trip that was booked. Bummed. Work got in the way finally. I work in a $3B a year company and my escalating responsibilities (middle mgmt. woohoo!) finally got the better of me. Our usual July trip is officially off. Trying to scramble for an August trip, but that's the only opportunity. I have other hobbies and pursuits that keep me busy in the fall and require I take time from work, and I won't go to Vegas when it is coldish (we live in western NY and I want heat!). So if I don't get in the August trip...it may be late spring before my next visit (We're once a year visitors for the most part). Was really looking forward to it.
Hang in there, another trip will come. I too like to go to Las Vegas when the weather is nice. It's been a rough Winter here in New York. Good luck.
Bummer, Phade. Just remind yourself that Vegas will still be there when you get around to going, waiting to [STRIKE]take all your money[/STRIKE] share her fortunes with you.:evillaugh Seriously though, take the opportunity to knock back a little more dough, and "do it up" more than you normally would.
It's unfortunate that so many in private Enterprise are unable and in some cases, actually afraid to take the time off they've earned and get away to recharge.
Been there. Done that. Have the t-shirt. It doesn't ever get easier to have to cancel a trip, but there's always another one around the corner.
I know the pain. We are "once a year" people too. Several years ago I booked a 7 night stay at NYNY and later realized it conflicted with something else that couldn't be changed. We ended up having to chop off the last day and were only able to stay for 6...the horror :evillaugh
We have had to cancel 2 trips in the last 5 years due to health issues for me, so I feel your pain. Things have not worked out too well medically but still have been able to make it back to LV. The one thing I do know is that when you have to cancel it makes the next time you do get there a little more special. And 1 last thought, it made me slow down and take all of it in more than I used to, so can't move near as well but maybe appreciate it more. Off my pulpit now, hope you get to reschedule for Aug. Best of luck!
Ah, thanks for the posts pulling me up by the britches. Still 50-50 whether I can make the August trip work, if not, it'll be 2015 before a return, but indeed, it will be sweeter than normal!
It's always a bummer to have to cancel. We gave up on one we REALLY needed a couple of years back when my wife got a new job and her benefits hadn't kicked in yet. Honestly, as short staffed as we are at my office right now, I expected somebody to come to me breaking bad news and asking me to cancel our upcoming trip. I just kept my head down about it and didn't say anything until last week and by then, I guess everybody thought it was too mean to ask me to stay at work. Everybody's right -- Vegas will still be there. And after a canceled trip, you'll probably appreciate it even more. Fingers crossed for you!
I really hope you can hustle that August trip.I would hate to see a once a year person miss an entire year
That sucks. I'm considering canceling the trip to Vegas I'm supposed to be taking in 2 days. It was a crap week at work (still working at 11 PM on a Friday) and I'm concerned my mind's too flustered to fully enjoy Vegas. I like being excited for it, but right now I just have other things on the mind. Not sure I can decompress in time.
Aww good luck! I hate when work gets in the way! I try to not let it.. we have PTO for a reason. I try to remember I deserve it. I work at a 3billion dollar company too. The managers and directors are INSANELY busy all the time, they never take time off.
I thought that too but grand kids trumps retirement. We went through five wonderful uninterrupted years of Vegas vacations then the grand kids got into school, Boy Scouts, baseball, etc. that grandparents are invited to attend...... Guess what had to be cancelled or rescheduled? Lol
Re-think a Winter Trip Don't automatically exclude a winter trip... for business reasons we now can only go between Christmas and New Year... the casinos are all warm and except for a heavy jacket for the trip back and forth on the plane... you are very comfortable in regular clothing or if you are susceptible to the cold... a light sweater.
Ah, I was able to squeeze in the trip in August (20-26). Got a slightly better deal on airefare, too. So, I'm happy as a clam!
