    Congrats to Jeff Koons! Not only did he sell the Popeye for $28mil, but he got $58mil for the huge Balloon Dog (orange). Absolutely amazing. He does better than most of the other famous artists, as his art is high value while he is still alive.

    I really don't understand what determines the value, except for demand. Can someone please explain to me what makes the Popeye or the Balloon Dog worth more than $10,000, $1mil, or even $10mil? Does Koons make them out of unicorn horn, or what?

    Don't be so silly, unicorns are mythical - they don't exist. Probably uses leprechaun beards though which are incredibly rare.
