Mailing yourself something to your Hotel?

Has anyone ever mailed something to themselves ahead of time?

I have a small item (will fit in a standard envelope) that I cannot carry-on the plane with me. The cost to obtain it on the Vegas end is too prohibitive. So, I thought I may mail it out to myself...

Has anyone ever done something like this? How do you address it, how far lead time should I give myself. Does the front desk/bell desk/concierge have it for you when you arrive?

This is along the same line as another thread I saw on here. It all depends on the hotel that you're staying at. It sounds like most of them will hold onto packages for you until you arrive. I'd ship it priority in one of the box's. And, call the hotel, and see if you need to do anything for them to hold it.

To be honest....(and no lughing)

its Double edged razor blades...I shave the "old fashioned way" and although you can bring your razor itself as a carry on you cannot bring blades.

At 20c a blade and only need 2 for the trip, I would rather not spend the outrageous $6/5 blades (and crappy ones at that) at CVS or walgreens only to have to leave 3 blades behind when I could ship two ahead of me....

I frequent another BB-forum site dedicated to wet shaving (badgerandblade.com) and they suggested it, but no one could comment on LV specifically. Last trip, a member there who lives in LV met me and brought me a few blades...a true act of generosity from a gentleman!

 

Wondering if they would just go through scanning w/o being noticed?

 

I used to mail my "lucky lighter" to myself before every trip. It was a torch lighter so it's not allowed on the plane. The biggest surprise was having the hotel charge me to pick up my item. What a rip-off.

That lighter ran out of luck quick so now I just use matches..

 

Someone mailed something to me at Palazzo once, and I also had to pay $8.00 to pick up my package. I doubt if this would save you money....

 

Do you check any luggage? If so, put it in there, and call it good.

 

Unless you mail it in an envelope, I don't see the cost advantage comparing it to shipping parcel post or UPS. You say $6/5? Is $6 really a lot to spend considering you will be spending at least several hundred dollars on the trip?? Just a thought..

 

When you factor in postage, envelope, something to keep the blades protected and the fee you'll have to pay at Monte Carlo to pick up your letter you will be spending about the same $6.

Otherwise I would just consider buying a bag of disposable razors and keeping them set aside at home for times when you travel where you aren't checking a bag and can't take your blades with you - maybe you really prefer the shave you get from your razor and blades, but its not going to be the end of the world if for a few days you have to use a disposable.

 

Oh. I know it's not the end of the world. I have travelled many times without my DEs. I do have back up disposables that I like. And I will at least have my brush and soap. It's the little luxuries a gentleman likes.

Postage is only a first class stamp as two blades travel very safely between two business cards in a standard envelope. I didn't realize the hotel would charge me a few, however.

 

They did once. But it's not a guarantee.

and in regards to spending $6 while there...you missed the point that "over the counter" are horrible...I'd be a bloody mess...

and in regards to checking luggage...not if I can help it..twice on the way to LV and once on the way home I have had delayed luggage...

I will call MC and see what the fee is to collect a letter sent to my self...it wont be a package, so maybe not $6-8??

Like I said above, I won't be heartbroken if I cannot have them.

Oh go ahead and mail it......just put in some garlic powder and ground red pepper for the puppies and you'll be fine with it......

You'd be surprised at what you can bring with checked baggage. Nunchuks, saws, axes, ninja stars (throwing stars), spear guns (for the whaling enthusiast travelers?).

And razor blades.

I'm more of a ninja star guy myself, but hey, I don't judge.

 

I'm not getting into detail but I have done this
Many times. Call the hotel and they either have a
Business center or parcel room.

Get the exact address and suite number.
Mail it by whatever means.

If it's there before you arrive, they tell you at check in.
If it comes after you arrive, they call.

Sometimes, there is a knock on the door
And they bring it.

All for like 25 bucks. I'm a fan.

 

I travelled for business recently from Laguardia to KC, w carry-on only; my co-worker was checking bags, i had every intention of giving her my blades before security, but it was 630a and I forgot...

when we got to the other side, I pulled them out and said to her "I guess its too late, what am I going to do know" (it was 630a remember)..our other co-worker dope slapped me (deservedly so), reminding me that we were now on the other side of security...

I think I will pack both, and see what happens, worse case is I loose 40c worth of blades, and I am stockpiled for the shaver's feared bladepocolypse (the day they stop making these things) so no big deal

 

I've done this before on business trips, but not recently. The old Sahara used to be very good about it. On check-in they would have a note on the screen that there were items being held in the Business Center in the old Tunis Tower.

 

Got a host? Explain the situation to him and mail it to him.
