I'm on a very expensive medication that requires refrigeration, it comes in a 15 day cartridge, so unfortunately when I travel I will have more than just the amount needed for my trip

When I made my reservation at GN, I asked about refrigeration for my med and was told it's $20/night for a frig in the room. That was the only way to guarantee one. I could take my chances on check-in and if there were any available then possibly I could get one without charge. IMO this is ridiculous. I was stunned that I was being asked to pay half the cost of my room for a refrigerator for medication. Maybe they have folks who dishonestly play this card...but I am not

Does anyone have insight on this situation? I'll be at the D for 3 nights first, I could walk over and talk to them and show them proof of my prescription. I've been told by a pharmacy tech friend not to allow them to put the medication name on my reservation as it has a high street value. Now don't come looking for me! LOL it's NOT narcotics :Þ

Good luck with this... I have nothing of value to help other than sadly, saying that you have medical needs for a refridge is a well known way to get one free. Have even seen it suggested here on the board at times. Ranks right up there with "tell 'em it's your anniversary" in an upgrade attempt. GN's a pretty solid property though, I'm sure you'll get taken care of...

Most diabetics I know would carry a small insulated bag with ice in it for their insulin when travelling and just replenish the bag. Now with the pens once you start using one it doesn't have to be refrigerated from what I understand.

    it's not insulin FYI

I have a small insulated bag like you say, and that's what i'll do if they don't give me one. it's just like liquid gold to me, and if it goes bad and isn't effective i'll be in significant pain

do you think I should call now? or walk over and talk to the manager when I'm over at the D?

what's the likelihood that no frigs will be available?

this med means enough to my quality of life that i'll pay for the frig if I absolutely have to. I guess I'm disappointed in this lack of service. why not just ask for proof of prescription?

Are you going to promise that you wont put anything else in the fridge?

If you have a fridge in your room, you should have to pay for it...since you can use it for stuff other than just the medication.

Just get a cooler and ice...problem solved

Other downtown hotels have a fridge in every room. The Cal and MSS are some of them.

Many hotels offer fridges but it is first come, first serve so you take a chance that a fridge isn't available when you check in. Unfortunately for the GN it sounds like you need to pay to "guarantee" a fridge for your stay so it depends if you want to take a chance or just pay double to guarantee one.

I bought something called Frio to hold my meds. You just dunk it in water for a few minutes to activate the crystals. It keeps my meds cold. When I went to Europe I used that to take care of my meds without any problems. I was away for 4 weeks and my meds were okay the whole time. After you dunk it you put it in a pouch and most of the dampness stays inside the pouch (I just store it in an area where it won't dampen anything else). I use it whenever I travel.

Maybe you could contact a casino host at the GN to help you out.

Most hotels will provide you with a refrigerator for free if you say it is for medications... and yes there are A LOT of people that play that card.

No idea how big the container for the medications you have to take are but you can buy a mini electric fridge that is small enough to only hold a 6 pack for about $20-30 ($50 if you want something different) and most of those come with car adapters so you can use it for the car or the hotel room.

going to take a gander that you don't have any health issues with your reply of zero empathy....a cooler and ice does not make sure my meds will be at a steady cool temp and not freeze. I'd pinky swear I won't put anything else in my frig...not even Gatorade that I drink to keep my electrolytes balanced so I don't go into adrenal crisis. you have no clue what I'm on or what it's for, or how unstable it is if it's not at the proper temp.

thank you for suggestions, I will definitely look into both of yours

it is actually pretty small, I will look into that too

thanks everyone for suggestions and ideas

I have made this same request at the GN each time we have stayed there in the past and never have I been asked to pay for a fridge. I just told them when I made the reservations that we needed a fridge in the room for meds. On our next trip in July, we have a Rush Gold Club room reserved and these rooms have fridges in them. Not sure which tower or room you are staying in, but rather than pay extra just for the fridge, maybe it would be worth your while to upgrade your room and have the fridge without worrying they won't have one for you.

I just asked when I checked in at the Nugget last year, and the lady at checkin arranged for one to be sent to my room.

If your medication is small enough and if you can't get a fridge (which I highly doubt will be a problem since it is for actual medical purposes), you could always just jam it into the bar fridge that is in every room. You will just have to fight it out with them in the end about all the charges triggered from touching the items in the fridge, lol.
