Saturday morning, the wife and I were at MB and decided to have a late breakfast / lunch. Walked up to the buffet line and there was a huge line (100+ people), but the player's club line was surprisingly empty. Excellent! Off we went.

We walked the the front of the line and were immediately called up. Oh my gosh, you'd think we were trying to rob the joint! Four elderly ladies who had just made it past the cashier stopped and told us we were cutting in line, waving their arms like we were the wrong way down a one way street. No, I responded, and tapped the sign. The cashier asked if we were gold or above, (odd, you'd think she'd have said Pearl), and my wife said, "Yes, we're platinum". And we were waved up to the cashier.

Someone still waiting to pay decided to say; "Ooh they're platinum!, how special!" For which he received the Look Of Death from my wife. It had it's desired effect .

I signed off on the room charge, and the cashier told me to just pick up the stanchion and walk to the front to waited to be seated and they'd take care of us. We smiled and did what we were told.

I believe the staff must have noticed all of this, because there was a conspicuous effort to thank us for visiting on our way out. And the people who hassled us? Were still waiting and saw the whole thing. As I told my wife on the way out, living well is the best revenge.

Hey, you earned it. I've had similar reactions when I used the Diamond card to go to the head of the line.

I am trying MB buffet in June. I'm just regular...no line skipping. I don't think twice about those who can pass me. They spent the money why not? But you'r saying people yelled at you while you were seated...a hundred deep. Those same people were STILL in line after you were done eating? How long did it take you to eat? If 100 deep makes me wait hours to get seated at a low range buffet...I think I'll look else where.

I agree with the poster who said you earned it.

You're at the Casino playing games of the house. They don't want you spending a portion of that playing time waiting in line. The reasons for that are pretty obvious.

There's a reason the riff-raff is standing in line for hours.

Time to break out some internet wisdom that you should have quoted in this situation:

I have never been hassled at an mlife property for jumping the line with Plat card, except for a couple muffled comments at the taxi line. It is always a guilty feeling at the taxi line since there are no signs, but damn if I am going to wait in those lines.

The one place I always get dirty looks is the starbucks at PH. You can get in the bypass line with CET Plat and up, but if you are Diamond and up, you get a free snack* (or banana) with your coffee order.

*free snack is from an assortment of prepackaged crackers/cookies/etc, in front of the register.

I'm glad I read this thread. No, I've never been harassed when bypassing the "peasant line," but it's always good to have comebacks at the ready just in case. That's one of the things I always tell BJ newbies. Have a few good remarks on standby should you get crap from someone. As always, it's good to be prepared. Thanks for posting!

Be a cold day in Vegas

When we wait more than 5-10 minutes to get into a buffet. Even if it's free were not standing there like jerks in a long line.

We just ignore those type of people waiting in line. Why lower ourselves to their type of commentary. I'm happy with the small perk we get for being a welcomed player.

I won't wait in a long line, it's one of the reasons I rarely visit casino buffets. I would rather pay for a sit down meal than wait a half hour in a cattle chute even if I had coupons for a free or a BOGO buffet. CET buffets have both platinum and diamond lines, it reminds me of the third class passengers in the movie Titanic. Really, do they need a third line for diamond? I suppose so to create yet another strata of class envy between Plat and Diamond members.

However, a couple of weeks ago we went to Harrah's AC and went to the Waterfront Buffet, and it was great! All of the high rollers were in bed, there was no line at 8 AM. And I had a two BOGO coupons, so it was $37 for the four of us. It was my first win of the day as a low roller living well; its all relative.

Don't anyone take this as sour grapes either, we all have choices, Diamond members earned or paid for their status and I would pass the line in a heartbeat if I had the card. However, I might have said something like "don't worry, I will leave some for you" to the nitwit in line.

Even more than a short wait time, I feel like the main advantage of using a line pass is pissing the people who don't have one off. :evillaugh

I feel for you... I had a similar thing happen flying out of McCarran yesterday. Going to the B gates (Southwest) the general security line was a bit long and the TSA Pre-Check line was closed, so I went to the A-List line. There was no one in that line, so it put me next in front of about 60 people or so. Some lady tries to angle in front of me and the TSA fella takes my boarding-pass & ID while she says loudly, "I guess no one cares that I was next!!!" I didn't respond cause I'm not going to say anything that a person like that will understand or appreciate anyways. It still doesn't exactly make my day... just move on. Of course, she went thru right after me and stood behind me at the x-ray continuing to mumble about why I went thru without removing my shoes and she had to take hers off, blah, blah, blah. Why is it that the ignorant are always the most vocal?

Were these people in the line to pay, or the line to get into the buffet after you pay?
MB has three or four kiosks that you go and pay for your buffet at, and then go past the cashier to enter the buffet. Were these not working at the time as well?

I miss the the seperate line that the Stardust had for meal-comp customers at Toucan Harry's.
There was never any grief, as the two lines were clearly placarded.

Of course, I also miss Keno girls.

I had a similar issue at the Mirage last December. There was a line of about 40 people waiting to check into the hotel, then there was the empty VIP line, Gold and above I think. And obviously if there is no VIP guest waiting to checkin, the worker assigned to that line handles overflow from non-VIP hotel guests, which makes complete sense to me.

So as I was walking up I guess there had been no VIP guests in awhile and people were used to the VIP check in person helping them out. So of course when I get in the VIP line, the people lined up to my right were 4 of your typical crass las vegas visitors, 2 guys and 2 girls, who have seen the Hangover too many times. Complete cliches.

So they see me standing their and the girls are giving me dirty looks and as I start stepping forward to the VIP desk when called, one girls says 'hey we were here first' so then very politely I say 'oh sorry, are you VIP members?' and I point to the sign. They don't say anything and as I step forward I hear the girl start mouthing off ...'oh VIP excuse me, you must be special'.

Now I'm not the type that can walk away and let it go, must be the area I grew up in. I turn around and without even looking at the girls I tell the guys in a very calm manner that their group better learn to shut-up or things will get very ugly very fast. Of course there was complete silence.

I then go and check in and mention it to the woman behind the desk and she apologizes and tells a manager, who I saw talking to that group as I was done checking in. Some people just have no social manners. I grew up poor and was never taught to mock people who had better things than me, but to be thankful for what I had. Just typical bucket-heads who just want everything handed to them for no reason.

Lots of negativity in this thread. I love a line pass as much as the next guy, but I try not to get harsh with the people waiting in line. Waiting sucks. :)

This illustrates why again that Vegas has gone down hill for gamblers!

Years ago people understood that if you gamble a lot you got perks, even if you didn't gamble that much you still understood. Today people just don't get it.

I was at my local Harrahs and some women holding a gold card was complaining that a lady holding a "7 stars" card got to go ahead of her at the cashier. If the women holding the gold card only knew how much the other women lost to Harrahs crappy odds she most likely would feel bad for her and not complain! :haha:
