JW Marriott.... How's the Casino?

I have a conference coming up in July that I've know about for quite some time. I had expected that it would be some where on or near the strip. However, when I go the conference prospectus, lo and behold, it's being held at the JW Marriott in Summerlin.

I've never been to Summerlin or to that JW Marriott before. I noticed it had a Casino, but I'm guessing it's lie the Westin down from Ballys.

Has anyone ever gambled there? If so, can you give me your impressions?

I did once last year, it's not huge.. it's round.. slot machines going around the center with the table games.

The only people playing seemed to be old people, locals... that place is beautiful, but it's just pretty dead. It's like the nicest hotel you'd find in any other city... I'd head over to Red Rock if you are looking for a good casino. It's not far away.

 

Pretty accurate description. My brother lives near there and we hit up the Irish Pub which has a good crowd, with bartenders who can pour a proper pint.

Nice property and rooms, full pay JOB, $5 BJ with decent rules. Sometimes they'll have a live jazz band on weekends. Overall it's a decent casino but you would want to go to Red Rock or Suncoast down the street if you are looking for a little more action.

Was there last week for the second part of our trip for 2 nights. Wonderful break from the Strip. I ran a live trip report on slotfanatics website, it's kinda long but has some good pictures. Here's the link.

Alot of good old aristocrats there and a friend had some real good luck there. He deff could tell they werent as tight compared to the strip.

 

I'm a fan of the Rampart Casino. I like the round floor plan, and the smell they pump in. There are also some decent restaurants on property as well as a shopping center across the way with some good eats. Your also right next to Suncoast, if you like the Gold Coast/Orleans vibe, and across from Angel Park if you get a little time to play golf. They even have a par three course that has lights so you can play at nite. And yes, Red Rock, my personal favorite is a short drive up Charleston.

 

The Rampart Casino at the Summerlin Marriott is one of our favorites, that we never stayed at. We always stay downtown where we have full room comps ... but every Sunday that we're in town, it is our regular agenda that we drive out to the Rampart, have breakfast in their cafe, and play video poker for 2 or 3 hours. It is a beautiful property, with plenty of good VP machines, and a generous player's club program. There is a variety of good restaurants there, including a very nice buffet. Try it, you'll like it ....

 

I was never totally happy with the transition of the casino/some of the eats from something mirroring a property of that level to a blue-haired locals joint, but it had to happen. That whole exercise struggled from the get-go so it was inevitable. Thankfully it landed with good owners and the JW folks have done what they can to keep the hotel where it is, which over time has been our #1 go-to spot, for a variety of reasons.

And I'm not bagging on Rampart; it is what it is. It's also where Terri got her first royal!! And where we almost missed the start of a friend's wedding waiting for a hand pay on a nice 4OAK.

It's compact, easy to navigate, comfortable, though as echoed elsewhere I'd much rather play at RRR. And we can do that since we're Marriott-ers.

 

Red Rock is a much more entertaining place if you are looking for some off strip Summerlin action.
