One of the things we enjoy most about Vegas are the interesting people we meet at the bar, tables or where ever else we may be. We don't bother people if they want to be left alone. To me one of the best things is sitting at blackjack table with fun people for a couple hours and sharing stories, talking smack or whatever.

Invariably, each trip we meet the "most fascinating man in the world". The person who want to tell you all the awesome things he/she has done, how much money they make or why they are so much better than you. These people tend to have diarrhea of the month. After ten minutes you want to throw the flag and say bulls***. It isn't true.

One the worst instances is when I was at Mandalay Bay at $25 table and this guy sat down. The dealer, during the reshuffle, asked why we were here and where were we from. When I said DC, the dealer asked whether I was in politics and I said no and that I worked in the legal profession. Apparently, the new guy was in the legal profession and started to proclaim how he made money hand over fist and that he was one of the top lawyers where he was from. This guy was talking and talking and it was apparent that he wasn't knowledgable about the law at all. He said things that made no sense and I had to bit my lip to stop from laughing out loud. We were all rolling our eyes. The pit boss who overheard all the BS told us that after he left that the night before he was proclaiming at another table that he was a doctor.

Another time, a 23 year old kid was bragging that he was in Vegas to spend his big bonus he received as a consultant for a big IT company. He talked about all the clubs he was going to hit, the high-end booze he was going to drink, and the big time gambling he was going to do, although he was sitting at a $15 blackjack table. He proceeded to explain why he got such a big bonus. It was due to consulting work for he did client X. He explained all the things he did to help client X. I hadn't really said anything at this point but I stepped in and told him that I worked for the same big IT company and that he needed to refrain from talking anymore about this subject. He knew, based on his position, that he was over exaggerating, if not out right lying, about his role with client X. I took him aside to remind him that he should be happy that it was me and not someone working for Client X or part of his leadership chain. This a big no no at my company.

There must be something in the water or alcohol that make people do this.

Personally I've not run into too many people who seem to be making stuff up. Worst cases I've encountered is someone bragging about the thousands they've won when it seems pretty obvious that is not the case.

I've do have to admit I've often thought of sitting down and making up a whole back story for myself that really pushes the limits on what is believable just to see if people will buy it. That might be fun for some laughs, but I'd definitely let them know I was pulling their leg sooner or later.

It's Vegas. People can be whoever they want to be. Then they go home to their miserable life.

Haha that's hilarious. I guess people just feel like they can be whatever they want to be in Vegas.

I wouldn't say I've run into the people bragging about how interesting their lives are, but I've certainly seen those people that I wouldn't mind hearing about. One time at MB, I was strolling through the casino on the way to my room, and saw a fairly short/fat guy in a decent suit playing roulette on the main floor. He was easily betting over $1,000 per spin (at double zero, WHY?), as each of his chips were $25 each. He'd blanket the entire board, and missed quite a bit. I laughed on the inside a lot, just because he was such a prick to the dealers. He'd yell at them when he'd miss, or he'd often have his chips exchanged for a new color every few spins. He was very nice to remind the cocktail waitress that her tip was a $25 chip. I wouldn't mind knowing what that guy does, or what his deal is.

Then there was the guy at Cosmo quietly betting $5,000 per hand at blackjack on the main floor (again, with the worse odds, WHY?). He was wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and you'd never guess he had $120,000 in front of him, betting 5k a hand. He didn't know much about basic strategy (or at least didn't use it). He's another one I'd like to know more about.

You never know what you're going to run into in Vegas.

I had a "Vegas persona" for many years.

People of a different generation would frequently say that I look like "Mr. X," a famous war hero and well known actor of the 50's and 60's.

I used to say, "I hear that a lot, because he was my father." I'd then tell a story about how he met my mother, a waitress, during a visit to the city of my birth (Hey! it could have happened!) and how Mom always told me I was the illegitimate son of a famous war hero and actor and how I never really know him because he died in a plane crash in 1971.

It was always good for a few drinks.

Sadly, now most people of "the greatest generation" have passed on and their children just don't remember him.

I'm now left buying my own drinks in Las Vegas.

idk to a certain extent its hard to BS with the smartphones. You brag too high you should be on the internet to some extent. Linkedin alone can confirm a lot. No point of lying, its LV people are there to have fun.

Hah. Maybe it was a crappy thing to do but our company takes this stuff very serious and people have been canned when they have run their mouths about our clients.

Love the video where the girl gives different names. In my younger, single days I always travelled to Vegas with the same friend (4 times a year). We used to use Vegas aliases, then forget our names after a few too many. It made for some funny situations. Ah memories.

Haha, friends of mine have dished out a few Vegas personas as well.

My favorite is telling people my name is Bill. Bill Breaker. You'll be seeing me around.

Not in Vegas, but in Vicksburg, MS, a buddy from Texas and I told chicks that he was an armadillo rancher from Deep Gorge, Texas and I was his money man from up North.

It almost worked. We would have some deep discussions with people, completely ad lib, about the many pros and cons of raising and selling armadillos.

    Great fun!
