Exactly! I have no desire to research the LET tax (or whatever it is called) but why is it that you can sit in a bar down the street with a lounge band and purchase a reasonably priced beer? Since when is an $8 domestic reasonably priced to begin with. Granted, if I want to have dinner at Expensive Barrel and understand they have kicked up prices to $8 in order to accommodate overhead and entertainment, no problem. Just don't insult my intelligence by providing the excuse, "It's not our fault, we have to charge the tax."

 

You gotta remember no State Income Tax in Nevada. They gotta make a dollar to maintain the roads somewhere.

 

Someone could make a mint starting a website detailing all the locations that have these added taxes! I ate at Double Barrel Saloon 3 weeks ago, and thought my bill was outrageous for a sandwich and a beer. Need to pay attention to these restaurant tabs. It might have helped if I hadn't been drinking all day!

makes no sense, they wouldnt be able to keep sate income tax as profit even if NM had one...

and they dont give this extra to the state or county or the city of paradise to help maintain the roads....

Did they give you the receipt automatically or did you ask for it after being charged $11? The staff would be better off making drinkers think the cost is $11 (and eat the nickel), with people likely accepting the $11 price which they would likely tip $1 or $2 extra. Asking for $11.05 seems suspicious and more people would also ask for the receipt.

I stopped going south of PHo/Cosmo a few years ago, and it appears things have gotten even worse since.

I don't mind paying a premium on drinks at a nice independent establishment. We have a good time drinking at several downtown bars, and also in the Vegas valley. On the Strip, they are looking to screw you out of anything possible as quick as possible, be it gambling (6/5 BJ and VP), drinking ($11.05 Bud Light not at a club), or staying ($28.05 resort fee per night).

You would think Vegas would have learned their lesson several years ago when MGM & CET had to give everything away just to get live bodies to cycle through their rooms and casinos. The sense of entitlement by the casinos and their employees coupled with a shitty economy ground the Strip to a halt starting several years ago (I guess one REALLY shouldn't go to Vegas). Based on what I have seen on the Strip the past two years, Vegas has become even worse than 2005-2006.

In June, I'm staying on the Strip comped the first five nights, with the remaining six downtown. I'll spend time off strip as well.

I'll play limited at CET (hopefully Cromwell will have decent BJ) and get sloshed two nights @ Cosmo. I'll avoid The Linq, MC's The Stinq, and I won't even Blinq.

they gave me the the recpeipt i belive its law all places have to but its to dark to read but something wasnt right so i took out my flash light look over it and saw all the add ons

i woundnt avoid the places you mentioned as ive basicaly not yet to run into this problem yet ,yes a beer will run from 6-10 $ at a bar/ club buts that the norm in vegas/ nyc so welcome to 2014. if you want drink cheap go to happy hour or bring your own. its not the price the botherd me its was i had to drink bud lighht and a 3$ up sell off hidden add ons that i wasnt told about up front

 

Threads like this really piss me off, I am almost scared to try new places now due to the outrageous prices. I think Casino Royale is getting a lot of my money next trip!!

 

It's cash control by the managers, not a law. Many bars will serve you and let you know the price. If you pay cash, there are no receipt exchanges. We drink all the time downtown without playing/being comped (Atomic Liquors, The Cal, Downtown Lounge, etc.) and never received a receipt. If you're playing for drinks, the bartenders typically have to comp you out via receipts.

A majority of people today pay by credit card, and you'll receive at minimum a summary receipt w/ tip and signature line. I try to avoid paying by credit card in places where by the end of the night, you may not be in a right state of mind (bar, strip club). Plus, cash is better for the servers.

I'd expect any drink at a decent Vegas club to run $15-$20, and $8-$10 for a beer is reasonable at a decent bar on the strip. In Chicago, you can pay anywhere from $1 at an old man's Old Style bar to $10 to a downtown bar to $15+ at a club. The $3 charges / resort fees / etc. are ridiculous and will piss off far more people than if you just charged $10 or $11 on a single line.

I‘m sitting in the DB saloon...angry orchard on tap is 8 buck plus tax...ok price but frankly going to try another beer.lol.

 

Switched half way to some goose one...no extra charge so big tip coming! Yah my first live trip report!

 

Went to the washroom with only a couple sips left.. barmaid cleaned up while gone so I said she owed me a couple fingers. Gave me a full one for the road. Bonus!! 10 dollar tip just cause I‘m hammered lol. Vegas Baby!!!

 

The new Vegas Strip is all about how to "Screw you and wring you dry", for they have chosen to no longer have gambling as their Cash Cow. Now they are no better than cruise ships that nickel, gouge, and dime you at every opportunity. But the new Vegas has taken the nickel and diming to a whole new level cruise ships would never dare to cross and risk losing their customers away.

Drinks, compared to Vegas..... and I'm surprised I'm saying this.. ARE CHEAP!

Anytime buckets of bottle beers (4) for $25. Ketel One's and coke under $9, along with under $10 premium drink of the day specials.

What's worse, the table's are better and the minimums are wayyyyyyy cheaper, holly crap, I need to book a cruise.

Their VP still sucks but it's getting really close. Watch out Vegas. :Þ

But seriously, that's pretty ridiculous. Mostly the $8 base rate and the auto-gratuity. Unfortunately you aren't getting around the LET in places like this, I'd think. I do think the LET rate (10%) being higher than the casino gross revenue tax rate (6.75%) is definitely ridiculous. They probably should be flipped at the minimum, but I come from a state that taxes casinos at a more reasonable 23%.

 

what the service charge for, isnt that what hes getting payed for to get me a beer.
whats next a cooking charge at a resturant if you want your food actualy cooked for you
