Save $ on bottled water - get ice and let it melt

Holy I don't know what to say!

 

I don't drink the tap water in Vegas b/c I've seen how housekeeping "cleans" things -- and I can envision them taking a dirty old rag and running it over, around, and under the faucet.

I always let the faucet run a bit when I'm in a new room, and it still gives me the heebie-geebies just to brush my teeth with the stuff.

 

Yes, it helps a lot.

 

Good thought about running the faucet. However, that gets ran a bit just by washing your hands.

I will make a point of it tho'. No harm in that. We all rinse our toothbrush under the faucet.

Frankly, I just don't drink Vegas faucet water....not because of any germs or taste, but because it just never comes up to drink it.

We've bought bottled water due to it being inexpensive and grab and go.

It's like come on, we're in Vegas. Spending 4-7 bucks on 24 to 40 bottles of water isn't going to impact the bankroll. How many of us spend $25 just to pick a seat on the plane....early?

 

In the long run, it all adds up. BTW, I would never spend 25 bucks to pick a seat but that's me and my Vegas flights are short.

 

Well, everything adds up, sure.

However, I get a case of water that lasts the entire trip and up to security going back. Mind you, my flights are about the longest in the contiguous states as far as paying for Early Bird or picking a seat.

For this upcoming trip at the end of May, there are 11 of us total. With 5 of us arriving at 10am, we will have 2 cars and straight off the plane will hit Costco and Total Wine in Henderson for water (probably 2 cases), beer/spirits, and snacks and still be at the hotel well before check-in. The water is a drop in the bucket.

Pun intended.

The crew I'm running with though, will be walking the strip with Nalgenes and it wouldn't surprise me if they want to wear Camel Baks. Lol. We go to cabins with no running water and no power and drink from creeks only adding some Aquamira so we don't get the shits or worse.

We know how to rough it.

Not everybody has a car. I haven't had a car in Vegas in yearsssssssssssssss.
For me, it's just to easy to fill a Brita® Bottle and have filtered water.

 

I usually just stock on bottles at the tables, when I know i'm going up to the room, I will ask for two waters. So in a day of going to room couple times during the day ill have like 3-4 bottles by the time I want to go to bed for the next morning. for just the cost of a tip, its good enough for me. just repeat this everyday, and eventually ill have like 20 that i forget about.

Well, everyone is different. However, even according to those links, I was right in that, hot damn that's a lot of water. 1.6 liters for women and 2 liters for men.

Hoya drinks over 4 liters and kills the arbitrary 8x8 "rule".

To drink that much, I'd have to make myself drink water when I wasn't thirsty.
Admittedly, currently I don't drink enough, I guess. I couldn't get to 4 liters a day when working out. A typical bottled water is about 17 ounces so at best, about 4 of those if going 8x8. That's actually reasonable. If I pour 1 bottle into a "red cup" it fills it the red cup up. Who can't drink 4 of those in a day?

I won't....I can't.....get to 4 liters tho'. My body's thirst meter is too outta whack for that. I'd be forcing myself like one of those contests.

This talk has made me buy a case for work and I'll be sticking a few bottles in the frig under my desk. Bought some of those flavor additives (like Mio) that have no carbs. I gotta have some flavor.

Hoya's extreme water drinking in a, imo, topic that goes past being frugal has actually made an impact.

Cases of bottled water are sold at Walgreens and CVS and those are darn near connected to casinos. We usually give them away or leave them behind because they are so cheap in cost.

Brita Bottles are very nice. Good call there. The filters are cheap and last awhile.

The only thing I hate is having carry it around after I'm done drinking the water. They are great for outdoor concerts tho'.

 

I've been drinking so much water for so long that I don't have any problems - apparently my body has adapted I did get my husband to drink more water - he works outdoors much of the year. So while he definitely does not drink a gallon of water a day, he pretty consistently drinks about 45-60 oz (2L) a day now, plus other liquids. In the summer when we know he'll be outdoors in the heat & humidity, he'll take extra water bottles with him to make it easier (reusable bottles from home, though he has backup in the car and at his office)

I am very frugal about water *because* I drink so much. Which is why - sure, I'd prefer to drink free water all the time, but I just have my limits Much like some enjoy Restaurant A over Restaurant B, some of us don't like water in some places, and sometimes water isn't safe to drink.

For those who don't "get" this thread, the answer is simple - close it, and move on to a thread you prefer

(PS the last few trips to Vegas, we've had a rental car and will buy a couple of the 3-5G jugs of water, depending on the length of the trip and what's available in the store - then we'll refill our stainless steel water bottles we travel with)

 

Walking around with a case of water doesn't really appeal to me.
