It seems like lately I have seen so many negative threads about Vegas becoming worse for the traveler/gambler.

Poor Host Service, Time Limits for Drinks at VP Bars, Poor Cocktail Service on the Floor, Long Hauling Increases, 6:5 Blackjack, Excessive Construction, and Expensive Clubs, to name a few.

Having said that, what would it take for you to say, "I am no longer interested in going to Vegas, time to find a vacation new destination."

I am really interested in getting the pulse on what will be the straw that breaks our back in terms of the place we all love.

My background is I am Platinum at Caesar's and Gold at M-Life, I don't play for comps, but they are the perk that keeps me coming to Vegas 3 times/year. All 3 of these would need to happen for me to stop traveling to Vegas:

    1. Access to free or inexpensive rooms go away at mid to top tier properties. I typically stay at Paris, Mirage, Planet Hollywood, and Bellagio, and pay $0 or something like $29/night during peak periods. If I had to pay $99/night for these places or more, and/or downgrade to Quad, Excalibur, or Circus Circus, I would be out.

    2. If free drinks while gambling disappear or really are limited to 1 drink per 30 or 60 minutes, I would be out. I don't want to play "a game" just to get a drink, I expect if I am gambling, in any form, I should get a beer. I don't want to have to get X amount of points for my drink

    3. Poor Gaming Rules/Carnival games take over. I do love a carnival game every once in a while (i.e. let it ride or 3 card poker), but as more of these take over the casino floor that give the house a serious advantage, at the expense of a fair gamble (Craps/3:2 BJ), I am out. If I need to spend 60+ minutes searching for a fair game at 2-3 casino's, that is not a fun way to spend vacation time

    For me,

If flights were too expensive - see yah!

If low limit gambling completely disappears - $5 minimums at night BJ and Craps- I'd try 1 trip and see if I'd go again. I don't just want to play slots.

I don't mind playing some off strip - but I do like playing on the strip. (I have always been able to find BJ and Craps at the $5 level in the evenings).

I don't mind 3 Card - as I don't play the pairs plus - so as long as they continue to offer it at the $5 level...I'm good.

As for your list, I have found a way to combat it that I think would work for me - granted not all people.

    1) If good rates weren't available I would probably downgrade - the first time I went to Vegas I stayed at the Villa Roma. I would stay at a cheaper hotel if... I had access to a fun pool - even if I had to pay a little.

We have really enjoyed making the pool part of our experience!

    2) The free drinks would be a turn off.
Again I'd try one trip - making multiple trips to ABC, or other places and probably carry a small cooler (that fits a 6 pack with me). I'd try it once and see.

    3) I tend to research and plan a head of time where I will find my $5 tables. If I'm staying at the Flamingo - which I am
For $5 BJ and Craps - the Quad, Casino Royale, Margarita Ville inside Flamingo, Bally's, Harrah's. Ellis Island.

I've heard that NYNY also offers those minimums and Excal.

I'd also make the treck to Riviera or Circus Circus.

Usually we go Wednesday - Monday MDW and can still find those limits. They are getting harder...but still readily available.

This year we are going Monday - Saturday. I guess we will see if mid week is easier for $5 BJ and Craps.

Finally - a substantial change in life situation...this is why I believe this is my last trip for a long while.

The thing for us that turned the tide was ease of access, rather no longer having it. Sure sure sure, our trips were dropping anyway, but why would they not from 12, 15/year? And even at a few times a year we still were somewhat regulars. Now losing that 3 hour drive, ultimately that did it. We're about half way between Palm Springs/San Diego and the Bay Area, and each is closer than Vegas, with so much more to offer. We could pop on Allegiant in relative minutes but Vegas never was going to be a fly-in destination for us, not with how we "Vegas," and if we're getting on a plane I can think of tons of great places to go.

3 things would kill Vegas for me:

    1. No more free drinks.

    2. No more low limits games (over $10 a hand bj or craps is out of my comfort zone).

    3. Flight from NY to Vegas becoming over $400. (It's around $325 now).

And this is by no means a "I am done with Vegas" thread, no one gets as excited as me when the valley is in sight on the plane decent.

I dream about being in Vegas every day of the year and 60 days on my countdown in killing me right now!

I just started to think with some of the threads I have seen lately, when is Vegas no longer a value and fun.

If I have to pay for rooms and alcohol, with crappy gaming rules, at what point is a buddies golf trip to an area that has a casino, Cancun, a cruise, etc. more fun than Vegas. Probably never.

Same for me, except our current "acceptable" upper limit for flights is around $325. We were actually planning a trip to New Orleans in May because flights to Vegas were close to $400, but then they dropped to $282 so we booked.

I would also add "No more comped or very lost cost rooms available", as that is also part of the equation for us.

I don't drink so that is not an issue for me.

Only three things I can think of that would 86 me from Vegas would be no more free rooms or players cards that enable me to get free meals. Third are flight prices and they are close to my "eff you" threshold right now.

As far as fair gaming, that has been deteriorating for years now. We all complain, but we continue to go.

Kinda like buying a pack of cigarettes...."I'm going to quit when they go up to $3.00. I'm going to quit when they go up to $4.00. I'm going to quit......"

Too funny for this Canadian - for that price I can't hardly fly out of Manitoba to Vegas.

I have to drive to the states to get in that range!

I just did a search for my days via a Canadian Airline - West Jet:

    Flights
    Winnipeg (YWG)
Depart: Mon Jul 21, 9:50 PM
    Las Vegas (LAS)
Arrive: Mon Jul 21, 11:07 PM
    Las Vegas (LAS)
Depart: Sat Jul 26, 12:35 AM
    Winnipeg (YWG)
Arrive: Sat Jul 26, 5:31 AM
    Air transportation charges (ATC)
    1 adult - base fare: $486.00 CAD
    Other ATC: $15.00 CAD
Taxes, fees and charges: $130.99 CAD
    Total with taxes: $631.99 CAD
    Total price: $631.99 CAD

For Vegas to no longer exist....so I guess some major catastrophic event ....apocolypse, zombie invasion...whatever but you get the picture.

Barring a life changing event like illness or financial hardship, I would say I would quit going if it was made so you couldn't carry an open container around on the strip.

Yes, I am a terrible degenerate.

A repeal of the gambling laws would most certainly do it for us.
Making all machines IGT ones would possibly do it.
Stopping free drinks would irk a little but not stop us.
As for airfares our next trip is costing us €800 each so I guess if they go up 25-50% from there we'd no longer think it worthwhile.
Aside from that it would have to be something calamitous to either Vegas or our health I think.

On our most recent trip in January, we were both suffering very nasty colds, which did spoil our time but even being ill, we both agreed there's nowhere else in the world we'd rather be!

There are increasing irritations yearly but you just have to put up with them, namely hotel resort fees, increasingly tight slots, more exoensive buffets, far less money off vouchers, timeshare touts. The only real alternatives are Atlantic City, which is dying on its feet, or Macau, which would be too humid for us.

Most new or redeveloped hotels are opting for designer boutique style and raising room rates but there will always be bargains if you search enough.

Everywhere you look in Vegas there are people in mobility scooters, so even serious illness doesn't prevent a lot of tourists coming, so I'd have to agree only being six foot under will work!

When my pension, IRA, savings, medical expenses and the repeal of Social Security inevitably collide, which they will, sooner or later, then no more Las Vegas.

    or

When a 25 year old finally pushes the wrong button by calling me "Old Man" and I end up in Clark County Jail.

Non-stop? That's cheap as shit. The last time I flew out of NY for less than $400 was probably several years ago. I think all my trips since last year were over $600 for coach and one was close to 1k but I used miles. I buy them pretty late though, less than 2 weeks out sometimes just a few days.

    As far as the topic..

If all the casinos I wanted to play at only had 6:5 BJ, I would definitely stop going. Because then I wouldn't even want to gamble, and if I'm not gambling it doesn't make sense to go.
