My Trip Report

My wife, Ann, and I spent April 8 – 11, in paradise at the MGM. In the spirit of shortness, I'm going to do this in topical sections. If you are only here for the pictures, they are at the bottom.

Flights: Flew n/s from Tulsa to LV on SW. Great flights times each way, and while not as cheap as the original tickets I had purchased, and had to bank, last summer, were still cheap enough, it is Vegas after all. Ann made the comment “I've never been on a late SW flight” on our return, which, of course, resulted in our plane leaving 45 minutes late. Both flights had wifi and that's OK in my book.

Limo: I'm a cheap bastard when it comes to everything except gambling bankroll and spoiling my wife, but one thing we always do is get a limo to the hotel via presidential limos. We usually stay at the South Point, so a limo is only a few bucks more, and we get to skip the cab line and the walmart neighborhood market down the street. A month or so ago, I called Ted (from WI) and made sure he was working. He said he was, so we booked. The Sunday before we left, got a call from Ted telling me he was booked all week to drive the president of Sony around for the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) show. Our driver turned out to be Josh, in a stretch SUV, who turned out to be almost as good as Ted. Since MGM is so close to the airport, I had Josh take us to the Lowes at the end of runways, so I could run in and buy a $16 box fan to drown out the “thin wall” noise of MGM. This turned out to be a wise move.

Hotel: MGM. Had an offer for 3 free nights, $150 FP and some bogo for a show. The Sunday before we left, I sent a facebook friend, who happens to work the front desk, a message asking her to block a smoking king room for me. Now I've never met this lady in person, just friended her to be part of a facebook game, but she sure is helpful when staying there. Monday night she sent me a message saying she wasn't able to block the room for me yet, as the ACM was still there and NAB was going on, but she would see what she could do Tuesday morning. Looked at Ann and said we “might be staying at the SP”

Somewhere over New Mexico, I received another message from her telling me she had a room blocked and it would be ready for us when we arrived (around 1:30 PM).

Turns out this was a fight weekend and when we walked into the lobby, the fighters were doing their thing, whatever that might have been. Check in was quick and we were assigned 20-404, smoking king with a connector door. I HATE connector doors, but the hotel was full, glad I stopped for the fan.

A few minutes after the bags are sent up, there is a knock at the door and these are delivered.

There was not a note attached, but we finally figured out, after asking her, that it was my facebook friends doing.

Housekeeping: Room was clean and they did a good job cleaning. To good of a job cleaning. When we were packing up to leave, Ann noticed that the carry on tote bag, which was very bright, was gone. Apparently, if you store anything under the sink in the bathroom, which happens to also have a trash can in the same area, the housekeepers deem that to be garbage. Unfortunately, this “bag” of garbage was full of starbucks bars and who knows what else. Ann called down to housekeeping to see if by chance somebody figured out that it wasn't garbage, got transferred to security, and received a $50 cash payout in return. Turns out that the overpriced news stand in the airport had the same exact bag for $7.99 so we made out OK there. Ann wasn't looking for money, more of a “educate your housekeepers to know what is garbage and what is not.” lesson.

Food: Room service the first night, hot wings/fries for Ann, roasted chicken sandwich/slaw for me. Tasty food, small portions, $60 bill. Not complaining about the price, that's room service, but I do think that $25 for granola and yogurt is a bit steep. Like I said, I'm a cheap bastard.

Night two, food court, Nathans for wings (way better than room service), and some Stromboli from the pizza joint. Way more food than we could eat (blame it on two buzzed people ordering for each other) for $40.

Night three: We were torn between going to Hencho, the new Mexican joint (we had stopped there earlier for ritas (good drinks) or the Grand Wok, ended up back at Nathans for wings. Wings were great, though the chicken wings shrank in size from the previous night.

Gambling: Ann played slots on days one and two, got tired of losing and went to play craps, that's where I finally found her. She lost there too, but had more fun. Day three, she finally started hitting a little bit here and there on the slots.

I played slots, except for about ten minutes while I played craps with Ann. Three bad shooters, including myself, chased me away from the table. The slots were good to me, had plenty of $200-400 hits to keep me going, up $600 at one point, down about $100 the morning we were leaving. I played mainly $1 slots, anywhere from $3 to $20 a pull, along with a few penny machines, Leonidas was my best paying penny machine. Put 90,000 tier credits on the mlife card. People interested in the gambling portion should continue reading the next section as it gets good.

Leaving day: Our flight left at 2:30, so I went down to the mlife booth around 8 am to see about getting a late checkout, one good benefit about having a platinum card. A late checkout of 1 pm was granted, turned out we left a bit earlier, but it's always nice to have. The clerk also said you have enough comps to take care of everything without touching your express comps. OK by me.

Went back upstairs to find out about the tote bag fiasco, and headed back down to get the $50 from the front desk. Returned to the room to help Ann pack. She sent me back downstairs to play for a bit while she packed up. I went down with the intention of not losing more that $200. Sat down at a five line super times $ machine and lost a quick hundred there. Moved over to a triple blazing seven (bonus) 5 line $1 machine and lost another $100. Damn it. So I do what any one might do, dug out a ticket for $300 and put it in, ponder about cashing out and going back upstairs and hit the button and hit this, sorry about the blur, my hand was shaking a bit much:

    [IMG][/IMG]

So I call Ann screaming, she can't understand me, but after the fourth time, she catches on and does a happy dance, waking up the new people who were noisy in the early am. F'ck em.

Wait for about 30 minutes as I wanted a check, cashed out the other ticket and went to the room, grabbed Ann and we went to the airport way earlier than expected. Grabbed a couple of burritos from Blue Burrito (C gates) and took them back to Tulsa for dinner.

A good trip! Back to Vegas in less than 30 days, staying at the South Point.

Awesome hit!!! Been awhile since we have seen this big of a slot/VP hit on this forum! Glad it happened to you man. If you would have hit it in Tunica, you might have closed another casino! :evillaugh

If only I'd been playing max bet, that would have been a cool 40 grand.:poke: Normally I would be playing max, but when the machine doesn't give a bonus for playing it, I don't.

I've got a white noise app for my android, but the speaker sucks. I was in and out of the lowes in less than five minutes (never would have happened at my local store) and they didn't even asked "Do you have a mylowes card?" :evillaugh

Trig, I bet your correct on the Tunica comment, there are a few down there that are hurting.
