My wife and I will be going to Vegas for the first time (I'm ashamed to say) April 21-24. She doesn't know we are going, I'm telling her the night of the 20th
We got a wicked deal on flights from one of my friends who is the head of HR for WestJet (Canadian airline)
I have narrowed down our hotel down to two properties.
    TI - $44.97/night
    Mirage - 63.87/night
My question is where is the best place to stay ?
I've had a few people say that they loved TI and am leaning toward it but don't want to regret not staying at the Mirage for $19.00 more /night.
Being our first time I'm sure that we will spend very little time in the room.
We are in our early 40's and I have a feeling after doing HOURS of research that it will NOT be our last.
I would welcome any advice that you may have.
    Note:
I have really enjoyed "Vegas Message Board" and appreciate all the information that I have gained from the posts.
    Cheers

Well, when Steve Wynn built the Mirage... it was "THE" spot to be in Las Vegas and a little bit later when he added Treasure island (TI) it was a "supportive" property to The Mirage IMHO, not meant to top it. Sure, it had it's own theme and the pirate show out front, etc., but I don't think he did what he later accomplished with Bellagio by any stretch. That said, 25 years or thereabouts have passed and Mirage is owned by MGM group and TI by Phil Ruffin. I still enjoy the TI, I always have, but I think the Mirage is still considered a better property deserving of the $20 difference in nightly room cost. Don't forget, no matter where you lay your head, these two properties are still very easy to go between on the tram and both are in a very desirable location. I like that area of the strip... Mirage being right next to Caesar's and TI being close to the mall (I don't grind gamble 18 hr's a day and like the mall area) and across from Wynn and Palazzo.

Your trip is right around the corner and I sure hope it's a BLAST!!!

The answer to your question depends very much on what you like to do. A little more background about your Vegas interests would help. That being said, I like Mirage well enough. I have not stayed in a TI room recently enough to offer an opinion about those.

As stated above it is very easy to move between the two. I have stayed at TI more times then I can count and have also been a regular customer of Mirage. In terms of rooms the TI are very nice for a mid tier property. If you stay there I suggest you ask for a high floor with a south strip view. It is a great view of the strip which could be nice for a first trip. In terms of dining Mirage has many more options, of course both are in a great location to hit many other properties with unlimited dining. The Mirage also has more name recognition if that makes sense and is important.

Mirage is a bigger property with a nicer pool however it tends to be much more crowded. We have always enjoyed TI as it is a very easy to navigate property and casino.

I don't know what you two plan in terms of gambling. However, unless you are going to play relatively big it is much easier to get future offers from TI.

So I guess pool, dining, and name are in favor of Mirage. Nice standard rooms, future offers, and more manageable are in favor of TI. My wife and I have stayed at TI so many times because we haven't had to pay for a room since our first trip and I always have several offers to choose from. The same play at Mirage gets me far weaker offers. I don't think you will go wrong with either choice, it is more of a question of what you are looking for.

I've been going to Las Vegas primarily for business once or twice a month for 20 years and honestly, I still feel that way EVERY trip!!! I find time in the evening to enjoy the town when business is done and sometimes pad in a personal day or two, but just as excited for next week's trip as I was for the first!

Being our first time we will probably do a lot of sight seeing (Walk the Strip & Freemont Street) and maybe a couple of shows

This post hit the nail on the head.

I have stayed at both TI and the Mirage in the last 15 months. I enjoy both properties, but the Mirage is better in every category, and well worth the extra $20 per night. Have fun!

I meant Mirage sounds more prestigious than saying you are staying at TI

I'm just going to throw a shout out to Planet Hollywood, we are also in our early 40's and just had an awesome time at Planet Hollywood, the location is awesome, I cannot comment on the rooms (as least not fairly) we were comped a North facing Panorama suite which was out of this world, but the adjoining room that my host also gave me was awesome too!

Something to consider, I never checked rates or anything but PH is an awesome choice also for sub $100/night!

If you are hard set on either TI or Mirage....as others have said, it is definitely worth the xtra $20 a night to go with Mirage...

Really, I don't think it matters where you stay, so go for the cheaper place. you have said you don't plan to spend much time in the room and the interests you are listing is not tying you down to any one hotel. To do sight seeing and multiple shows, you're going to spend most of your time away from the hotel anyway

No question; I've stayed at both, and Mirage is better hands down. I would never stay at TI again.

Minor details to most, but might matter to you:

Mirage has windows which open - a rarity in Las Vegas hotels. It is nice to get some fresh desert air instead of pumped in air con.

TI has an empty mini refrigerator in the room - also a rarity. Most other hotels have mini-bars which cannot be used for your own food/drink.

    Dioberg:

if the additional $20 per night doesn't hurt too much, I'd say pay it and stay at the Mirage. TI is a nice property -- nothing wrong with it, and i've been there myself a number of times. but i think your options for food are better at the mirage and i think the property itself is of a higher caliber.

if you want to go to the fashion show mall, venetian or wynn from the mirage your essentially as close as you'd be from TI, and you gain the benefit of Mirage being connected to the remainder of the MGM properties if you wander south to Bellagio etc and try to sign charges to your room.

    just my 2ยข

I've stayed at TI four times and like it just fine. I agree that Mirage appears to be the superior property and would stay there if they would book the room I want, but alas, they won't :grrr: and I keep going back to TI.

Mirage definitely has the better pool complex.

Location-wise they're pretty much equivalent WRT going other places on the strip, so I really think its a wash.
