Looking for American style Diner?

One of the things on my bucket list is to visit a typical American Diner type place like you see in the movies. If you watch NCIS, the kind like Gibbs frequents sometimes. Or do these places only exist in movies? Local and not a chain.

Is there any such place in Vegas? I have done some searches, and found ones such as the Black Bear Diner, which gets very good reviews, but that's not quite what I'm after.

We rent a car, so any area would be OK.

I'm not sure I've explained what I mean too well but hopefully you guys know what I mean.

Being from NJ, there is at least diner in every town...I have actually seen two diners next to each other. It is definitely a real thing. Eating at them so often here in the Northeast kinda prevents me from eating at them on vacation so I have not gone to the Black Bear Diner. Yelp reviews are excellent as well.

Dupar's downtown looks just like a 50's diner, complete with older waitresses with checked aprons and hats and they serve diner food... be sure and have their $2.99 shrimp cocktail if you do go there. It's an old fashioned ice cream sundae glass filled with good tasting shrimp and sauce just like I like.

If you are a bacon lover, Binion's in the same downtown area has an old fashioned diner... On our 6th breakfast in downtown Vegas, we visited Binion's Cafe with a comp. As I was getting a little jaded with all the fantastic breakfasts, I decided to simply order a grilled English Muffin and a side order of bacon. They asked how I liked my bacon and then bought a huge platter of bacon cooked exactly as I had ordered. Plenty for 2 or 3 people to feast upon.

Also, I like my coffee to stay hot, so I usually order a half cup of coffee and get a refill. They apparently think visitors to Las Vegas are caffeine deprived... they brought me a 16 oz. styrofoam cup half full of coffee. My son was given a full 16 oz. cup of coffee.

dupars at the gate is a good call.

 

I've never been personally... But I'm sure someone here would know... would peppermill fit in the American diner category?

 

If you'll have a car go to the Grand Canyon and stop and get your kicks at the Route 66 Diner along the way.

'Fifties' was the key word I was missing, couldn't quite put my finger on it at the time, but now it's obvious

Will have a look at those mentioned, we are spending a few of our days downtown so we can check out Du Pars and the others there.

Peppermill is awesome and definitely something to try at least once in Vegas, but it's not the quintessential American diner, 50s or otherwise....

 

Roxy's is an excellent 50's style American diner. Not only is the food great - but they screen 50's movies while you eat.

While the service was slow at Roxy's, it has AMAZING 50s ambiance and a delicious milkshake I haven't forgotten.

 

I agree with every word you said.
It has been a few years since I have eaten at Roxys. I remember the food was good & the milkshakes were amazing. I also enjoyed the atmosphere there. I felt like it was the 50s.

Don't know if I would call the Peppermill a diner. Its close though. If you go there plan to share a meal. The portions are huge!
