Slots Best One-time Only Slot Machine for a Non-Slot Player?

Ok...here's what happened.
The wife was feeling kind of depressed about her job the other night, and I asked her if there was anything I could do.
Her response? "Win a million dollars so I can quit my job!"
I told her (jokingly) that I'd go book a flight right away.

It then occurred to me that the only way a low-roller like me could ever hope to actually win a million would be at a slot-machine.

And I never play them.

So, my question to those who do know the machines in Vegas is this:
If you only had $200 to play in one single machine in attempt to win $10K or more, what machine would it be and at what denomination of play? (I'm assuming max-coins per pull.)

Actually, your best choice would probably be $1 video keno if you are looking for a $10,000+ payoff

You would want to play a pick 7 and bet 2 credits per play (so $2 per spin)

If you can hit 7 out of 7 (odds are 1 in 40,980 of doing so, about the same as hitting a royal flush in video poker) you would win $14,000


If you went with a slot machine there are some $1 machines (where you would have to bet either 2 or 3 per spin, depends on the machine) where you can win $10,000 (check the pay table though, most $1 slot machines don't go that high). In that case the odds of hitting a $10,000 jackpot would probably be in the area of 1 in about 250,000


If you really wanted to chase the dream the MegaBucks slots machines have prizes over $1,000,000 if you can hit the progressive and those are $3 per spin.

 

Hmmm...perhaps I'll try $100 on video-keno (or even $1 regular keno) and $100 in something like a "Wheel of Fortune" 25-cent machine, max-coin.
Whatever I have won after going through the $100 on each, I'll bet on a sports-parlay ticket that pays 100-to-1 or better.
Something to think about anyway.

A Vote for Wheel of Fortune...

Try Wheel of Fortune for max amount... I once walked by as a young couple at the Plaza played "Wheel". There were two jackpot symbols on the screen... and stood watching as the 3rd symbol hit for $2.25 million dollars. They were in shock... had been on the way to the courthouse to get a marriage license and had stopped by just to see how their luck was running!!! I've often wondered what happened to them.

 

There are lots of $5 slot machines (perhaps most?) with top jackpots greater than $10,000. Usually 2 or 3 coins per pull. At 2 coins my favorites are Double Gold and Triple Gold Bars. And look for multi-denominational machines with a $2 setting where at 3 coins a pull you could easily get a $10,000 jackpot.

Usually $1 machines at 3 coins you're looking at $5K to $7.5K for the top jackpot.

All of these refer to 'classic' 3-reel spinners.

These are substantial jackpots (you could buy a good used car, for example) where you don't have to suffer the downside of progressive jackpots: low returns when you subtract the jackpot chance and the fact that a fraction of every pull goes to enriching the guy/gal that actually wins the progressive.

 

This is always a tought question...Do you go lower denom to have more chances...or do you go high demon and hope for a quick hit.

I stuggle with this questions every trip that I have FP...

Last trip I did 4 spins on a $25 slot (1 credit)...nada
Trip before that I played a $1 slot (3 credits)...turned my FP into 3x real cash
Before that, $5 slot (2 credit)...nada

So based on this small sample set...seems $1 denom is the way to go...

 

If I was going for a million plus...I'd play Mega Bucks.

You can hit some decent wheel spins to keep you playing sometimes. If you ever pick up a Casino Player magazine they always have the big winners for the last month and you see more WOF than any other game.

 

WOF get my vote. Depending on how long she wants to play there are options for the 25 cent of $1 machine.

 

I would either go to the Venetian or Quad and play the Titan 360 there, but only if you can get all 8 players on it at one time to get the bonus to go off every 2-3 minutes like at the local casinos by my house where its always busy. Or you might trigger the bonus if lucky. On average, bonus comes up every 200-250 spins with all 8 players playing. If only 2 people are playing, it will take a while to add up to 200-250 from 2 machines assuming that the bonus just went off not too long ago before you went on and both of you will have to spin at least 100 times before the bonus triggers again. At the local casinos by my house (never played it in vegas), it can actually go off less than that. You never know, but its just an average based on the articles I read on this machine to help me win more on it. If you get to the progressive round, you can win a lots of money and its based on how much ur betting. The more you bet, the more you can win. Its all multiplied based on your bet level.

Also remember this rule..If a machine is dead, its dead. If it doesn't pay right away, get off and go to the one next to it or somewhere else. People lose when they stay on the same machine regardless if its not paying.

 

8 spins on a $25 machine at 1 credit per spin. You can hope for a $500 (20-credit) or $1,000 (40-credit) payoff, which is not terribly rare on these machines.

THEN

take your $500 or $1,000 over to the $100 machines, and play the money off at those machines.

At a $100 machine, it would only take a 100 credit win to achieve $10,000. While not common, its a lot more possible than going for the nearly impossible "megabucks" machines.

Also, at the low denominations, one may get hooked after playing so many spins that they invest "an extra twenty or fifty" thinking that jackpot is about to hit. I've made this mistake many times.

My reasoning? I once took a non-gambler to a casino, and showed him how to play the quarter slots, and the person was not impressed that my "bonus round" only netted about $15 after my investment of around $13. This guy put a benjamin in a $25 machine, spun once, and hit for $375, then left the casino with a good profit. He made it look easy.
