    Howdy!

Heading back to the land of beer and honeys next week!

Have always been just a casual VP'er, but am planning to play more VP than ever before on this Vegas adventure. Don't ask me why ... I have a VP boner right now for some reason.

Have enjoyed a couple substantial wins on the DDB roller-coaster this past year, which allowed me to weather some quad-droughts as well. Really wouldn't mind a little less volatility.

I'm being comped four nights w/ food and beverage at D'town Grand, so I feel the need to reciprocate with some extended casino play. I feel competent on the standard VP games, except maybe DW.

Question ... Which VP version do you enjoy the most and why? Am I wasting my time with BP? Is JoB dead?

Hoping for some lively back-and-forth on this topic. Cheers!!!

DDB all the way. If you go back to JoB, it's a real nut crunch when you start hitting quads.

    Maybe try some Boner Deluxe?

I find JOB quite boring. DDB is fun, but even money on two pair really drains you if you aren't hittting quads. DW is probably my favorite, but paytables tend to be pretty bad if you aren't playing at least dollars. BP gets a lot of my play as it bridges the gap between JOB and DDB, and is usually available for quarters at 7/5.

Bonus Poker Deluxe (aka Bdlx, aka Boner Deluxe) was the first VP game I played after graduating from JoB. I like it because of the premium on quads. Winning $100 for a 4OAK on a Bdlx quarter machine was so cool compared to $31.25 on JoB.
Bonus Poker Deluxe does have a higher variance than JoB, but the variance is still lower than DDB. You can find 9/6 Bdlx (99.64%) downtown at The Fremont. I don't know if Downtown Grand has Bdlx, but if they do it's probably 8/6 (98.49%) or worse.

I don't know what level VP you like to play, but if you are a quarter player, the Vue Bar at The D (upstairs) has $0.25 Bonus Poker with progressives on 4OAK (5-Kings only) and Straight Flush.

Although this wasn't in your list, my favorite game is Triple Double Bonus. It is a step above DDB as far as the excitement over bonus quads is concerned. Aces with kicker pays 4,000 credits, the same as a royal flush! 2's, 3's and 4's
with kicker pays 2,000 credits, the same as Aces with kicker on DDB. Yes, it is a very volatile game but it is a lot of fun. JOB is probably the best game as far as making your money last longer, but I also find it very boring. TDB can be a real roller coaster ride. Good Luck!

OP was trying to lower his variance, not increase it. :evillaugh

As for me personally, I'll usually play any of these games listed, what usually decides it for me is which one has the highest payback. I'm a little more fond of deuces because it's "different", but it's hard to find good paytables like grosx2 mentioned, especially at bars. The best bar for it downtown is 98.91% at Chicago Brew Co., iirc.

One of the best games at the downtown Grand (as well as one of the best bartops) looks to be 8/6 JoB for quarters or 9/5 JoB for dollars, so I'd play that unless you want to slash and burn comps at the Grand.

Another "different" game I like to play downtown is 99.95% pickem poker at Fremont.

The game has a very high average payout when played correctly (strategy within link above). But it actually has a lower overall variance than JoB, but still offers $150 for quads at quarters.

Thanks for all of the awesome suggestions, everyone. Much appreciated! I am a VP quarters player. I sense that I might begin with JoB and try some of the others, but ultimately I might find myself simply banging away on DDB by the end of the trip. I'll mix in heavy doses of BJ, Pai Gow and Baccarat along the way to counter the variance.

    Wish me luck! Cheers!

Not to steal the thread, but does Paris or PHo have decent DDB machines anymore?

I get bored playing single line video poker. Multi lines lets the law of averages catch up faster and I don't wear my arms out playing. My favorite game is Deuces Wild. Really enjoy the penny 100 line JOB... costs $5 a spin, but you get 100 chances to win something. Also like Super Times Pay and Ultimate X. Do any of you know where these are in multi lines downtown... preferably 1¢ or 5¢ version... I know there used to be a 10 line Ultimate X at Four Queens... but I think it was more than 1¢. I am definitely a low roller. $5 or so a spin is about the most I can handle on a multi line game.

If 9/5 is "decent" to you, then yes.

Not sure about Paris, but PHo has 9/5 DDB w/STP (98.14% w/STP) for 3/5/10 play nickels, dimes, and quarters.

Also PHo has 9/5 Double Double "Aces and Faces" (98.37%) for quarters through dollars. This game is basically DDB, but 2-4s payouts is replaced by Ks-Js instead, and since you hold these cards more often, it's actually a better game to play than DDB with the same 9/5 payout by 0.5%.

Both games are around Planet Dailies.
