So I'm trying to figure out why people pick the hotels they do for their trips..

Was it b/c the gave you a comped room?

Is it the location you like the best?

Perhaps a combination of the 2?

We stayed at the NYNY the first trip and then realized that we liked the mid-strip area better so the next trips we stayed at Paris and then Ballys - this time we're headed to the Bellagio...even tho my rates right now are $177/night..

For the next sister only trip, we'll probably go with what's cheapest, and maybe not just mid-strip..I can actually get MGM ay $33/night for our January trip...

So, why did you pick that hotel??

Since we are considered low rollers to sometimes no rollers we love mid strip and don't mind paying a reasonable rate that includes the weekend.

Picked Hard Rock for upcomig trip due to online deal in December and it's a quick guys trip with 2 newbies who are on a budget.

Picked Aria, Planet Hollywood and Paris because the wife and I got great deals using Southwest Airlines vacaion packages I couldn't beat purchasing air and hotel individually.

Picked Monte Carlo due to a great rate through MLife plus low air fare with Southwest.

Picked Harrahs because they comped my wife 5 of the 7 days July 2013 due to she was a new Total Rewards member from our October 2012 trip where I got an incredibly low rate.

First time we went, I stayed at Bellagio because I wanted to stay somewhere beautiful the first time. Second trip stayed at Vdara for an extremely cheap rate. This time staying at MGM Grand cause it's comped. I think now that I've been there once, I'd rather not pay for the room and stay somewhere on strip free rather than lay the money out to stay at a super fancy hotel.

Aria - because the location is great, the hotel is really nice, I love the gaming, the restaurants and the rooms.

Bellagio - same reasons above but I don't eat there much.

Wynn - if this hotel was in Aria's location, I wouldn't ever stay anywhere else again. I love just about everything about Wynncore EXCEPT the location.

    I don't pick V/P because I despise their casino.

If we go in the summer months it has to have a nice pool - fun atmosphere - and a strip location.
Also a free of cheap rate...thus we end up back at Flamingo.

Gaming of food isn't important...we can walk.

I've had the good fortune to have stayed in almost every major property in Las Vegas of the last 20+ years and decided about 5 years ago to concentrate my monthly stay/play at the Hard Rock. In no way am I saying the Hard Rock is the best in town, but it's the best for me... Since most of my visits are primarily business related, easy in and out is important to me. When I stay in the HRH Tower, I can walk out of my room and be in my car at valet in no time compared to the huge strip properties. I know this is a point that most Vegas visitors would find of little or no value. The location is also great for easy airport access as I often pick-up and drop off others there, not to mention the whole Paradise/Flamingo/Tropicana access to get around town quickly... well as quick as LV traffic allows.

I found that the Hard Rock for the most part has a very stable staff and so, it was easy for me to get "noticed" staying there 40-50 nights a year and appreciated in ways that make me feel like a "high-roller", even though I'm usually only good for a couple hundred dollars through a video-poker machine for a couple hours in the evening to unwind. My room and per-diem are covered by business, so those points add up quickly in their rewards program. I've amassed a chuck of points to use on personal visits.

The property suits me well, I like the music and the ambiance and to those that think it's a property over-run with 21 year-olds... I say you probably haven't visited recently and the stereotype is false. Except on ReHab Sunday's... yeah, it's a zoo, but I'm very seldom in town then anyways. It's a joint that comes to life late in the evenings and is usually conspicuously quiet during the days and early evenings. I don't believe the Hard Rock's average customer is ALL about the gaming. Ownership spends money improving, refurbishing, etc. on a consistent basis. The place looks good and is stays fresh... I like that. Most importantly, the staff and management are very nice to me... from valet to check-in to housekeeping to the bartenders I've met, they're all just super people and when they address you by name and know what your preferences are and meet or exceed your expectations every time... no need to go elsewhere. I've got it REALLY good here!

First trip we stayed in a Flamingo GO room, really low rate and from what I'd heard it wasn't thaaaaaat bad of a hotel to stay in, especially if you got a GO room. We were high floor with strip view for around $35 a night (no resort fees then), bear in mind, this was only a few years ago so that's a decent deal for someone with 0 play history.

We decided we wanted something with a more relaxing pool and nicer accomodations, plus we now had experience walking through almost every casino on the strip.

Second trip we booked Cosmo for three nights and TheHotel for 4 nights.

Cosmo - Nice, new property and got a nice deal ($250/nt I believe on a terrace wraparound suite).

TheHotel - Good rate, around $60 a night for the lower end suite at TheHotel. Choose this because it seemed a lot quieter and more tranquil than our last stay at the Flamingo. Also, the pool was something we wanted to experience.

Third Trip we've booked Mandalay Bay again for a night (just to get the comps and freeplay mostly, though I personally love that place), then we move North to the Monte Carlo.

Monte Carlo - We realized what a pain it can be staying south strip. We like to walk but when we're going out to dinner and the wife has her heels on, she won't be walking far (.. I've tried to figure out why she bothers.. nevermind). That translates to cabbing it, crowds, lines, etc. It's much easier for her if you're central strip.

Fourth Trip - This is a guys trip so I'm thinking we'll stay wherever the best deal is on the strip. I don't much care about furnishings quality and location doesn't matter too much either..

Bouncing from hotel to hotel is fun, gotta experience them all!

We've stayed at Harrah's (4), Flamingo, Treasure Island, MGM Grand (2), Springhill Suites, Residence Inn (2). Each place had its advantages and disadvantages.

But our favorite overall is Harrah's and we keep returning there. Location, location, location! We can walk to a lot of our shows and take the monorail or cab to others (will never again use the bus).

I play my slots almost exclusively at Harrah's but also at some other CET properties. And they keep offering me comp rooms.

Harrah's has easy access to budget food outlets where I am comfortable going alone when I travel solo, like breakfast @ McDonald's and lunch @ Chipotle. I usually do a buffet with my first show of each evening.

Harrah's always treats me well and makes me feel comfortable.

Wynncore - Never staying anywhere else these days. Probably one of the most complete resorts in the world. Yes it is pricy but it's well worth it.

Comped rooms are first and foremost on my mind and then follows location, but I've stayed at Silverton, Palms, GC and Rio offstrip and had no problems getting to where I want to go.

Recent years has had me staying at Harrahs, Venetian, Palazzo, Paris, Bellagio and Encore. Years back it was TI, MSS, Terribles, Old Aladdin, Dunes and old MGM (now Ballys).

As you can see, I've stayed all around and I've been fortunate to have had no real problems at any of these joints. Oh, maybe a leaky faucet or a shower that won't drain. A TV that didn't work, but nothing major that wasn't fixed.

Current problem I've been having is at Harrahs where almost every recent trip the idiot before me locks the safe. So now when I walk in my room, that's the first thing I look at.

First trip: Picked Excalibur for the price.

Second trip: Picked Monte Carlo for a change of pace. Picked Golden Nugget to experience Downtown.

Upcoming trips: Picked Monte Carlo as our home casino since we had the best experience there. A couple of comped nights was an added bonus.

I pick a few possible travel weekends and I fire up various travel package websites like orbitz and expedia. From there I try to determine the best weekends price wise. Typically, I sort by star rating (highest from low). I mostly stay at 5 star hotels, but not always. There are certain properties I will pay a slight premium for like the Mandarin Oriental. If possible, I like to try hotels I've never stayed at, which is why I'm booked at the B in a few weeks.

Here's all the places I've stayed in Vegas:

    The Venetian
    Wynn
    Encore
    TI
    The Bellagio (upcoming)
    The Cosmopolitan
    Aria
    Vdara
    Mandarin Oriental
    Mandalay Bay
    THE Hotel
    Hard Rock
    MGM
    Planet Hollywood
    Flamingo
    The Four Seasons
    Golden Nugget
    The Plaza
    The El Cortez Cabana Suites

I don't like CET properties, in general.

On the first trip, we stayed at Bally's for the price and the location. Second trip was Monte Carlo for the price and the location. I liked both. Bally's is kind of blah but the location is fantastic and the room was nice. The thing is the casino is dull and it's so annoyingly far from the street. Monte Carlo was very nice as well, however we were there when the City Centre was being built so we hated passing the construction because the sidewalk was so narrow (and people walk so slow).

But we had always wanted to stay at the Bellagio and we did the last trip. We did the $20 trick (but gave $120) and got a gorgeous fountain view room for 7 days. I love the Bellagio, I can't find a single complaint. In the morning, I'd order a pot of coffee and sit in front of the window and watch the fountains. I loved having home base right in the middle of the strip.

For this trip, we're doing the Bellagio again. We don't play or visit enough to get comps so we booked a package through Expedia (I don't want to hear it) and will do the sandwich trick again.

PLEASE let me know how your experience was at the Bellagio -I mean, I cant imagine its anything BUT fabulous, but I'm also paying "more" than I could at other places but I just feel i need to stay there once (at least!!).

What's wrong with booking through Expedia? I actually checked their rates and for my trip they're $225/night where I can get $177 - I was impressed with myself..we will also be doing the $20 sandwich trick...and I plan to mention that we're celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary (which will be true), so Im hoping for a view better than the dumpsters!!

Cosmo has been good to myself and gf lately with comps so they've become my home in 2014. But I can't justify paying full rate all the time except for a special occasion. As long as they keep giving me comp terrace studio I'll keep going back.

Normally nyny is my home and Monte Carlo being my former home and current backup plan. In the past my level of play suited them just fine to allow me to get at least a couple nights comped with additional night at a deep deep discount.

This will be our first time to vegas. We booked airfare through airmiles before ever booking rooms.

We are at MB for 4 nights, chosen because there was not much available through myvegas. Only 2 places were available and this was the better of the 2.

We then move 3 nights to the GC, 2 of them free through a local car dealership. I wanted Tropicana or Orleans but neither had availability on our dates.

3rd place will be MC through myvegas for a night.

I am not terribly fussy, used to staying in places like super 8 (though here in Canada ours seem much better than most i have seen down south).

I will go with where i can get the best deal.

If you don't book through the hotel, you can't be comped anything off your bill.
