I've already posted about FL hold'em before but I wanted to stretch the question out a bit. I really dislike no-limit hold'em, in fact I think it's tragic that this, of all games, is the world's dominant poker variation.

So here's my question. For someone looking to sit down with around $1000 (and be buying in at, or close to max). What are my options for (In order of preference):

Any mix game (10 game, HORSE etc...)
    Omaha hi-lo
    7 card stud

    Thanks!

Sorry I should have added that specific properties that tend to hold these games would be appreciated.

There's a reason no-limit is much more popular than limit. To win consistently at limit is extremely difficult and requires a ton of focus. The best players in the world know this and therefore prefer no-limit.

If you think limit is easier... well... steer clear of the high limits. At least your bankroll will last a little longer.

    Omaha is the same.

Check allvegaspoker for what games are spread and where they are spread.

Venetian and Bellagio for mix games. Venetian usually runs 8/16 and Bellagio runs 20/40+ (usually 40/80, where $1000 buy in is a bit light for that). Aria occasionally runs 15/30 mix. Note mix games in vegas are almost always limit and draw/split pot heavy. For example, a mix game may look something like: Omaha 8, stud 8, crazy pineapple, razz, 2-7 TD, Badugi, Badeucey (2-7TD/Badugi split pot game)

O8... Venetian. They are running 8/16 half kill almost all the time, and 15/30 half kill occasionally.

Stud high...Bellagio often has 30/60 on Fri/sat night.

Bravo poker live is a great tool to keep track of various games nationwide.

I feel that this isn't the whole story. No limit is also popular because that's the only game on TV that fish watch. This also makes no limit an easier game to win at as well as its increased stakes for key decisions. Even so, some pros also play in high stakes mix games too.

The only reason no limit is popular is because bad players can get lucky and still win a decent amount compared to their buy in. It's easy to suck out and double your money in NL. To double your money in limit is much more difficult.

I'd take limit over NL any day if I can find a profitable game. The problem is the bad players are all at the NL tables and us limit players are stuck playing against other good limit players. I really doubt any of the games that tringlomane mentions will have more than one person bleeding chips. The rest of the table is just passing the chips around, letting variance do it's thing, and the only winner is the house rake.

I gave up limit because it was requires way too much focus. Building pots in limit is a fine art and requires you to know every move the players around you are going to make in reaction to your action. If you aren't paying absolute attention to the game, you're missing too much and you're probably not going to be a consistently profitable limit player.

If I had an unlimited supply of adderall, a sizable bankroll, and I could find some big games in Vegas, I'd be in heaven. Otherwise, I'd get way too bored... and boredom in limit equates to losing in limit.

If you don't understand that... you don't understand limit.

Of course, that's if you're sitting down to dominate the table and walk away a winner. If you're just playing recreationally... limit is a fine game.

The problem with limit in Vegas isn't that the players are too good it's that there are to few players. Game selection or lack of it is the main problem.

As a side note, any limit game won't have a max buy-in.

If you want to play just for shits and giggles, Golden Nugget and Binions have 2 -4 games. It's some locals grinding for groceries and tourists, mostly grouchy old bastards like me. Play is all over the place so it's like playing in the kitchen with your cronies.

Binions have up theirs to 3-6

Couldn't cover costs on 2-4 limit.

Costs are covered by the rake, 2-4 vs. 3-6 is irrelevant.

There is a regular 7 card stud game, but I don't know where it's located anymore as it bounced around, perhaps at the Orleans now, or possibly back at LVH.

    You're welcome.

No need to tell the guys running the poker room, they have already run it into the ground, just as they have the entire hotel/casino. The poker room is down 10-15 tournament regulars praying on a handful of tourists for tournaments and hoping to keep anything beyond 1 or two 1/2 NL games open.

If anything, you'll have less tourists playign 3/6 vs. 2/4. if their goal is to keep the tables closed and not pay minimum wage to an extra dealer, mission accomplished.

Not true. Bigger pots means more rake, which works on a % of the pot size (capped). That's why 2/5 NL games make more money for casinos than 1/2 games even if they both charge 10% capped at $4.

The 2/4 vs. 3/6 difference is marginal, you'll get less action/players in a 3/6 game downtown. On the strip, the tourist will not care much regarding the 1/2 dollar increase. I do agree on the NL 1/2 vs. 2/5, casinos will consistently get enough beyond ante pots and patron interest to keep the game going. I prefer higher stakes, but you have to have enough live bodies willing to buy in for more than $60-$100, and with the decline in poker interest it's just not happening anymore downtown.

Binions rarely has enough interest to keep one 2/4 oe 3/6 limit game open. The last few times I was there, there was just one 1/2 game open (at 9-10PM), and once a 2/4 game was 6 handed with drunks (a near fight between two drunk women broke out) and there was no action. For a casino, a closed 3/6 table is preferrable to a 2/4 "looking for drink service" with limited rake (or negotiated no rake due to few players) table with limited action. I always ask for reduced rake with a short table.

Binions does get enough interest for the weekend big stack tournaments, but I see the same 10-15 faces playing each and every year. Golden Nugget is the last decent downtown poker room. Thanks again Becky.

Binions is a terrible poker room, no arguement there.

I'm merely stating a 50% increase in bet sizing makes it much more likely they'll get the full rake for a pot. It's actually a significant difference for the house on a low limit hold'em game.

So, does all this mean that Golden Nugget is the last room to deal 2 - 4 Limit?
