In any game you play...if you're WINNING, how far do you raise the stakes?
For me, I'm 99% a video poker player..
I'll start out at 25c then if I double my stake (usually a $100) I'll raise it to 50c, then if I double AGAIN, I'll go to $1...I've never really kept a winning streak going..but I got to thinking about it..I guess if I doubled up at $1, I'd go to $2, and so on...
    What about you?
How far would you press it before just taking the money and saying "I WON!"

If I'm playing BJ and I double my buy-in, usually $200 at the $10 level I'll pocket my winnings and play with my original $200 buy-in at the $25 level. If at that point I'll play until I either lose $100 or if I'm on a big roll I'll leave with a smile after the cards cool down.

Craps is another story. I buy in for $200 and if there's a good run of the dice I'll ride it for all it's worth (pass line with odds, come bets with odds) and color up once the dice turn cold.

Roulette, I'll buy in for a hundred and play four numbers straight up for $5. If one of my original first four bets hits I'll make four more bets at $10. Regardless if one of those bets hits or not I'll color up and either take a small profit or a much bigger one and consider myself lucky. For me, roulette is a hit and run game.

I play mostly craps, line bet/odds and place the inside numbers. I'll generally press a unit every other hit on an number. No logic behind it, I just increase my bets to take advantage of a hot roll. I know I should regress my bets at some point or even take them down but I rarely do. So at the end of a hot roll I'll leave a lot of money on the table.

I am mostly a VP player (DDB, BONER Deluxe) and will start @ 25c, I dont usually play at 50c level because I have a history of getting wiped out, I will pop it to the $1 level (and usually get wiped out double quick.....LOL:eek:) but if you do hit at the $1 level, then I will sometimes press to $2 and see what happens.
I know that both of those games can have high variance, but that is why they are popular, if you do hit a few 4OAK,s or premium 4OAK on DDB, it can sure get your bankroll back into the black or major profit quickly.

I only rarely press at tables as I prefer to have longer sessions when the cards are on my side (Pai Gow Poker) so tend to flat bet. I do have a system that allows bets to be pressed but it's not that straightforward and relies on my hitting the bonus bet or another player getting a very nice hand and being paid out for 'Envy'.

On VP I'll step up a level if I've trebled my buy-in or more, using the profit as my buy-in for the next level. I always start at quarters, never made it past dollars yet lol. Theoretically I'd happily press it to as high a level as I can go as each buy-in from 50c up that I'm putting back in my pocket is pure profit.

At craps I usually press 1 unit either after first or second hit. I think the most that I ever got to was one roll I started with a $12 eight and the shooter rolled the eight 16 or 18 times and I ended up at $1500. I don't think it hit at $1500 but it hit at $1200.

    Hey Now!

I'm a VP junkie too.. I usually start at .50, and move up to $1. after I double or more. I have to change machines to go higher, so I tend to stay put...

In craps, I'll press the 4/10 to a quarter and then start collecting on 'em ($50), press 5/9 to $35 and start collecting (also $50) and up the 6/8 one unit, usually to about $36 or $48

That seems to be my threshold

Craps is my game and the answer is "NEVER". Once I start pressing, I don't stop till the roll is over...period. My progression on 6/8 is as follows:

    1 - $6
    2 - $6
    3 - $12
    4 - $18
    5 - $24
    6 - $30
    7 - $60
    8 - $90
    9 - $120
    10 - $150
    11 - $300
    12 - $450
    13 - $600
    14 - $750
    15 - $1500
    16 - $2250
    17 - $3000
    18 - $6000
    19 - $9000
20 - Most tables are maxed by this point if not several levels earlier.

Not pressing on the first win flattens the volatility significantly since most rolls will involve only hitting 0 or 1 times anyway. Obviously the house wins more over time when you are pressing but this strategy in particular gives me the kind of action I want when the table gets hot without having to throw out big initial bets and being able to ride out cool tables without too much pain. This is a key point, I'm under no illusions that this is a winning strategy, optimal strategy or anything else. It just gives me the kind of craps action I want which is routine most of the time with the opportunity to go big when a good roll presents itself with no debate and no regrets.

Level 14 is the highest I've ever been since I started doing this a year ago. Even after I lost my $750 on the table, my net win following that progression is $1427. That's really not that shabby on a $6 initial bet and FAR better than hitting a flat bet on place 6/8 thirteen times. The look on the faces of the dealers and the pit critters was incredible. It's not that they haven't seen bets that big before, but to see someone start at $6 and end up at $750 is something many of them have never seen and they told me as much.

Most people have a comfort zone relative to the mins they play at and don't stray too far when it comes to pressing. My particular progression is designed to make sure if I'm ever there for a legendary roll, I'll WILL make the most of it. I don't want to be like that lady who had the longest roll in history and took the table for mere thousands (according to the rumor mill).

My craps goal in life is to hit Level 20. If that means table maxing at $3000 as many places are and then hitting 4 more times, that'd be just fine. I've made it to Level 14 so it certainly seems within reach even though the odds are slim.

Blackjack I will always press a unit on a win. Biggest hit was on a 100 table, won 7 hands in a row to get to 800 bet. Got a split hand, double double and dealer breaks for a 3200 hit.

I rarely bump it up at the casino without a mathematically valid reason. My biggest casino win for a day is $400 and biggest loss is $350, iirc.

One of my bigger bump ups was on myVegas tonight for the double LP level up (finished 23 levels tonight via blackjack for 2000 LP each)...I maxed out the BJ bet with full XP value (50k per hand), and I was also up on chips. But I really wished this luck happened in the next few days...going to Tunica later today.

I like your style - and follow it almost exactly - although have not gotten much above step 10 or 11. I have similar progressions for the other numbers as well. But I do think doubling your bet at levels 10, 15 and 18 is a little aggressive. I like to put more in the rack than I am re-investing on the table.

Here is a question for you: After this hot shooter sevens out, what do you do with the next shooter? My philosophy is you start again with the base bets and start all over again at step one. I think the concept of a "hot table" is a myth. I think shooters can be hot, but once that shooter's run ends, it seems the dice go cold pretty quick.

I used to think that way...however, in the long run, the house advantage will grind against you, so you might aswell exploit "luck" when it comes around.

For blackjack, I never go more than 5x my base bet ($10 to $50), and that's only on a very positive count. Like Mike, I will sit down at a $25 table after I'm up a few hundred, but even then, I lower my spread to $25-$75.

For craps, I've never pressed my place bets more than 5x the starting bet, & I've reached that many times over the years. ($12 becomes $60/$10 becomes $50). I also have an irrational superstition when I get there: if anything weird happens with the dice (hit's a player or a stack of chips, or if there's a "no-roll"), I take my bets back down to $12 & $10 and start over.

For 3-card & UTH, I almost never press, except for the sucker-bet (pair-plus & trips). Following a good pay-off, I will press to $10 on the next few hands & press again if I hit a good pay-off while it's pressed. In 3-card, I've been pressed as high as $40 on the PP, but that's only ever happened twice. My UTH trips bet has never gone higher than $20.

I primarily play $25 blackjack with a $500 buy-in and use a slow progression by adding $5 on the first win and $10 for each successive win, stay at the same level on a push, then back to $25 on a loss. If I double my $500 buy-in, I will buy in for $1,000 at $50 minimiun add $10 for first win and $20 for each successive win.

I haven't really figured out a good pressing system for craps where I usually just play pass/come bets with odds and occassionally throw out some hard way bets, so I am interested in others pressing strategies at craps.

    Question about pressing place bets

When I play craps I'm strictly a pass line/ come bet with odds player.

After reading a lot of the great posts on this thread I have a question about pressing place bets. In advance please forgive my ignorance on this subject ;)

Is there a progression in pressing place bets, say the 6 & 8, where you can pocket some of your winnings and still press?

Also, does anyone know of any good craps books that discuss this?

    Thanks gang......

I agree completely. If I know absolutely that the next hand will be a winner I will bet every single cent in my pocket.

I'll PM you my number so the next time you know the next hand is a winner I can bet on it as well.

There is no right way to press place bets. I go 6, 12, 24, 30, (drop $2) 42, 60, 90, 120, 150. I usually rack a hit at 12 then go for the roof after that. Once you hit 30 every hit gets you at least a green chip. Sometimes I go collect full press instead of this step wise press.

Tables rarely get beyond the 90 level, but when they do, it gets exciting. In the 10 years I've been playing dice, I've only seen my inside bets get over the 90 level a handful of times. The 4/10 is different beast altogether.

On a 10 dollar table you could always just press one unit. 12 , 18, 24 , 30 and so on. I usually play like this or press then collect and then repeat

Mathematically you should always flat bet. But that's too boring for me.
