We have been to LV several times and have never even heard of this place. After reading about it I guessed we have missed out. So it is on our list for this trip. Not sure if we should make it there for breakfast or dinner. We will be staying a few days at Mirage and then MGM. Would it work to take the monorail to the Sahara or can we walk from the Mirage? Are there specialty cocktails or food items that we should make sure to try? Any tips or suggestions would be great.

We missed it for many years also, as it doesn't look like much from outside. If you want a piece of old school Vegas - GO HERE!

They have and old 50's style dinner - huge portions and a separate lounge - all neon, low lights, mirrored walls and velvet booths - as well as a fire pit that is filled with water and has fire in the middle. No hats allowed in the lounge. If you only do the dinner, or only do the lounge...you've missed out!

It's worth the visit, but it's well north of Encore, almost to Riviera. I suppose you could walk it from Mirage, it'd be closer comin' down from Sahara, but there sure isn't much to see on the walk.

Take a cab and go for breakfast. It's a hike from anywhere, so save the hassle. The portions are enormous and unlike HHAGG, actually tasty!

It's a breakfast or late night place. Enormous portions of diner style food in better than usual quality.

    thanks for the replies

Sounds like we will probably take a cab and maybe we should try to get there a couple of times, once for breakfast and once for the lounge at night, or just plan on spending the better part of a day there. LOL

Don't get carried away! It's an iconic place, but not worth 2 trips or spending the day.

We stay at the Flamingo and go there a couple of times over 5 nights. It's about a 35 minute walk from Flamingo (were 30 and 34 - brothers). For us it's a great place to end or start a night.

We spent a few hours having drinks in the lounge late one night. Right on one of those couches around the fireplace like in the movie Casino. Loved it. We got nachos and it was a mountain of nachos, enough for 2 or 3 couples. Very good nachos too. You have to love it for what it is.

Its not a bad walk, u can tram it to TI and walk across the bridge to the Fashion Show Mall. From there it will take about 10 minutes to get to Peppermill. Then if you are tired from all the food you can always cab back.

I would do a breakfast or maybe a lunch there and / or go into the lounge for a drink ( THAT is a MUST!!!! -- great bar area-- as you may or may not know a brief part of Casino was filmed there )and the bar is of open 24/7. The last time I was there albeit many years back was around happy hr time ( late afternoon) and they had 2 for 1 specials and they poured a good drink.

I have stayed at Mirage 5 times and for the last 3 years have made it a pilgrimage to cab up to Peppermill for breakfast and then stroll back down the Strip, casino hopping along the way.

It's old school 50's with the girls wearing teeny skirts and those heavy duty pantyhose. If you're male, you can sit at the counter in hopes of one of them needing something on a lower shelf.

Food is above average, but short of outstanding. Portions are huge. I've only eaten breakfast, so I can't comment on the other meals. The signature breakfast drink is their Bloody Mary, which is huge and has your daily allowance of vegetables either in or on it.

It's an $8.00 + tip cab ride from Mirage. So you can save money by taking the monorail to Sahara and then a short walk down to Peppermill, but by the time you walk from Mirage to the back end of Harrah's and then another walk to the monorail station and then the ride to Sahara and then the walk back to Peppermill, you could already be there and seated for around $10.

    Breeze's advice is spot on.

Good to see ya Breeze. I found out about this forum on TA when I asked what happened to all the regulars, you, Lowrance, Gator Fan, NY Gus, and the rest...

Hey thanks, man! Got just too stuffy on TA. Plus all of the ambushers who were always trying to set me up.

I am very happy here. Better people and a lot more liberal.

Back on topic, I really enjoy Peppermill. Wish I could find a way to use a doggie bag.

    Peppermill

Its a great place to get basic good diner food. I like it better than HHAGG. We typically take a cab down there for breakfast/lunch from mid strip and then walk off the huge portions on the way back. Very good diner food.

Don't miss the lounge. Your cool factor will go up 1000% just stepping foot in there.

We'll have a car when we're there. Is there plenty of parking available?

Went there for a nightcap and some VP, had two Stingers and felt like crap the next day while I was working a trade show booth. It definitely wasn't the half bottle of red wine or the 7 beers earlier in the evening. :drunk:
