My brother and I usually go in May, this year we are going at the end of July. We enjoy the pool in the morning and like to walk around during the afternoon and game in the evening...what would you do to enjoy and survive a trip during this time of year?

First, unless you're used to or like the heat, avoid those afternoon strolls unless they're short walks from one casino to another. An option would be to take in an afternoon movie. Whatever you decide, it's a given that time of year to stay hydrated.

Another option would be to catch an afternoon lounge show if any are available.

I would do the walk and pool in reverse order.

Exactly. When its super hot, we do breakfast, a short stroll then hit the pool. Get out of the pool, shower and don't go outside unless its cab line to drop off. I have found after mid-June the heat is a bit past my comfort zone for a vacation.

    Exactly! :nworthy:

You will easily get temps around 110 some days and it's even hotter on the strip w/ all that balcktop. Do your walking inside and use trams and cabs to got from property to property if you have to do the tour.

I know its odd but 104 is my limit. I have found anything past that as uncomfortable for anything but hitting the pool.

We happened to be out there last year when it hit 117 - we found many ways to travel from place to place going outside as little as possible. We used the trams, walked inside thru shops- may have taken a longer but it was cooler. Lots and lots and lots of water. :peace:

My fear is that the pool will be too packed if we do it in that order. We don't worry about chairs, we just sit on the islands in the Flamingo pool.

Maybe we will try one day each way, and see what we thigh was best.

Usually I go July/aug but this trip and last year was May. I say just walk through the casinos if you get hot. You can practically walk the entire strip without being outside for long. I'm all for the heat and love it. Just make sure to drink lots of water

One thing to remember about the Vegas heat is that the humidity is quite low, usually in the teens or possibly single digits during the afternoon. This is good AND bad.

Good: When the humidity drops below 22%, the apparent temperature will fall. So a 104 degree temperature may 'feel' like 'only' 100 or upper 90's depending how low the humidity drops.

Bad: Because of the low humidity, perspiration evaporates as soon as it leaves the skin. Therefore no sweat, or very little. The body may be losing water by the pints, but since a person isn't sweating profusely like they normally do back home in Florida or some other high humidity area, they don't even realized it until it's too late.

Love the heat. I usually go in July and November. I'm from Florida where it is extremely humid in the summer. I'd gladly trade a typical Florida day of 90 degrees with 90 percent humidity for a Vegas day of 100+ degrees with low humidity. Still, 105 degrees is still hot no matter how you slice it. Mega water is the key.

When I went last July (10 day trip) we did as you were planning and hit the pool in the morning followed by the strip in the afternoon. We felt it worked out better for us (IMO) this way. While it was hot, we did not find it unbearable. We stayed at MGM and walked down to Bally's or further every day in the middle of the afternoon, without any ill effects. The key is to know your body. When you need a break, take one. Need water, get some. There is air conditioning literally every 20 feet if you need it, so take advantage! Have a great trip!

Don't go outside haha... or limit it...I went for 4th of July last year, and it was MISERABLY hot. But we just made use of the trams.. and took cabs. No walking down the strip was happening.

Luckily in Vegas, they want you inside spending money, so it's pretty easy to do that... lots of stuff is connected. Personally I wouldn't even try to swim... too hot haha.

Just don't do what I did the last week of July last year: Thought it would be fun to ride the bus all up and down the strip, over to In-N-Out Burger, North to Fremont Street, and anywhere else with a 72 hour bus pass. I live where 110°+ Summer days are the norm, but standing at a bus stop in the afternoon that time of year is suicide!!!! :rolleyes2:

The walk from casino to casino is just fine if you have a good hat and a bottle of water with you at all times.

We were there last June when it was hitting 113. What we did was accidental, but worked out well.

As many of us do, we would be out late, say 4am-ish. Well, we have a 7 year old that is up at 7am every day, and therefore we are too. We'd wake up at 7-ish automatically and couldn't get back to sleep. So we'd get up and do stuff before it got hot, then go back to the room for a nap around noon. We did that all 3 days we were there on that trip. It was glorious.

Might as well sleep through some of the hell-heat, right?

But, that being said, it wasn't as bad as we expected. I always made the joke "Yeah, my oven is a dry heat too, but I ain't hanging out in there." But, the comment has merit. I've been in Atlanta and Florida in June and July and was expecting that kind of misery, and it really isn't. I went out in a standard suit, minus tie, and was OK going from the Venetian to the Mirage on ground level at about 110 degrees. To put it in perspective, those little water misters that are around in some places to cool people off while waiting in lines, well they were completely evaporating less than 6" from the mister itself; I'm 6ft and never felt a single droplet of mist on my bald head. While we were certainly glad to be inside once we made it across, it wasn't unbearable for that short of a distance.

We usually visit in the mild months, and I'll stick to that as a preference, but I wouldn't avoid a trip because of the heat. My past trips have been once in September, once in December, once in February, 3 times on Memorial Day Weekend at the end of May, and once in June. I liked Sept, Feb, and May best.

Oh, the car sucks in the heat, though. Steering wheel was burning my hand for the first few minutes 'till the AC cooled it off. I wouldn't want to imagine black leather, or worse, black vinyl and shorts, eek.

We were there in July last year. We live in Texas so are accustomed to summer heat, so it wasn't too horrible, but it was hot alright. The first evening, the radiant heat coming off the pavement made me feel like a cookie in an oven. It was pretty oppressive.

We coped by not walking around the strip during the hottest part of the day, drinking TONS of water, taking cabs when we needed to go any great distance, and spending a lot of our time indoors (drinking and playing VP!!). Still had plenty of fun despite the heat.
