I'm thinking about renewing my Total Rewards Platinum status this summer by doing "Platinum in a day" by earning 2500 tier credits in one day and getting the 5000 tier credit bonus. To grind this out, I'm considering doing $1 slots for a day.

Can anybody give me an idea how big of a bankroll I should bring with me for this? I can't seem to find decent figures anywhere.

2500 credits is $12,500 coin in. At a 6% hold (estimated) it would cost you $750 in losses. I would plan on $2500 minimum for variance. At a $1 machine with a $2 max bet, you are looking at 6250 spins, or probably about 8-10 hours.

It would be better for you to play $25,000 coin in on a decent VP game.

Remember, the "hold" is over the life of the machine. You can be up and down in a hurry. Way too much swing.

Agreed. Find a multi-hand, low variance VP game with at least 98% payback, such as 10 play 7/5 BP or 9/5 JOB.

Yes, the hold is over the long term, but with that much coin in on a two coin $1600 jackpot Double Diamond machine, he should do ok, also on a machine like that, a bankroll of 3x the average hold "should" last.

If the only goal is to make platinum, this is the type of machine I would play.

On my January trip, I decided to experiment with the 1,000 Tier Credit bonus for accruing 1,000 Tier Credits in a day ($5,000 coin in).

I played a 3 reel machine with 5 lines, which could be set to either $1 or $2 per line. I played 5 lines at $2 per line, so $10 a spin. The jackpot bonus for playing max coin was minimal. I figured that machine would have a decent payback % and variance.

Started out very good, but by the time I got to 1,000 Tier Credits, I had a $1,500 loss.

Line-skipping is very valuable to me (and especially to my wife). Plus, I don't want to pay those ridiculous resort fees, plus I don't want to pay for parking or early check-in in AC.

Cost you $12500 coin-in to do that. Must be very valuable indeed!

If you just solely want Platinum status for those reasons just get the Total Rewards Visa! It will save you a lot of money, and it gives you an easy way to keep RC's active.
