We're staying at MGM at the end of March, and want to check out everything right around the MGM, because it's an area we haven't hit much in the past. I've never been to Hooter's, NYNY, or Excalibur so we we're thinking of hitting all three. However, Excalibur does not get great reviews these days...is there anything there that stands out to you the last time you were there? How is Octane Lounge?:nworthy:

Might see a Wizard walking around...that might be cool for you.

But in all seriousness...nothing to special at Excal...but its an easy walk from MGM so might be worth it just to please your curiousity

We have stayed at Luxor the last few trips. We always walk thru Excal, there always seems to be a crowd having fun. Check it out.

If you have never been to Excalibur its worth a walk through but honestly there is not a draw to keep you there or make you want to go back least that has been my experience.

We usually stay at that end of the strip and the only time we end up in Excalibur is when we are passing through coming from Luxor or Mandalay. We tram it to Mandalay then walk back via Luxor then Excalibur because the tram is so akward coming the other way.

Excalibur is what I call "Dirty Vegas" ........... I'd prefer the atmosphere at NYNY MGM or Monte Carlo even Luxor on the right night. Mandalay depends on the crowd as well.

Don't even bother walking to Hooters

Tropicana is boring but worth a walk through just for the remodel.

For some reason I like the Trashy Castle, mostly cause I seem to do pretty well there gamlbing. Also have a lot of good memories there like my grandparents 50th anniversary where 20-25 of us stayed there. I usually try to stop in each trip. When staying there I like the food court upstares for cheap eats, and the little convience store has pretty resonbable beer prices.

I really hate Excalibur, like really hate. Might have something to do with losing $300 in 30 minutes in a monopoly slot....

Are you a low roller? Excalibur will generally have the lowest table limits. I have a buddy there over President's Day weekend, and he said there was always a $5 craps table available.

Several years back, I stayed in a room right after it had been remodeled, it was actually very nice. However, the next year I stayed and the remodeled room I was in was already worn down.

So gambling can be good, rooms, I probably wouldn't stay there again.

We jokingly call it the Tragic Kingdom but we have had some fun low limit gaming there for sure

Liked the pool and the lobby bar, Buca di Beppo has all day happy hour at the bar, $2 domestics and $3 imports but zero atmosphere. Run some money through a slot machine and you might get free midweek rooms or reduced rate offers. But, you will have to put up with the odor of smoke mixed with cleaning solution.

hmm...excalibur. best food court. cool medieval look. nice sized arcade. low minimums although i personally dont like to play here. a nice buca di beppo. connected to luxor and mandalay. i enjoyed bee gees and thunder. the buffet is actually ok...enjoyed it more than luxor, mandaly bay and mgm. it feels like an adult chuck e cheeses. that is why i like it.

My advice would be to spend the couple extra bucks and stay at NYNY.

NYNY is my absolute favorite place to hang out and gamble so far. But the rooms there are awful. They look ancient like some run down motel six. Maybe their suites are nice?

We were originally going to book NYNY as we've stayed there before and liked it. Although the room was a bit shabby, we liked the vibe in the casino, liked how compact it was so it was easy to get from your room to the strip. We also liked the myriad of places to eat and just grab a quick bite.

However this time we booked at Excalibur as it was literally less than half the price of NYNY. We've visited it before and liked the casino (and even the buffet!), so hopefully it will be OK.

They have a unique live poker game offered in the poker room when there are enough players. It is a spread limit game where the betting can be $2 to $6 per round. The same game is offered at Sam's Town.

I've stayed at Excalibur several times 5+ years ago. It was fine for what we needed and was cheap. But if you are used to higher end places, then I'm sure it won't be for you. But as people said, cheaper drinks, cheaper food, cheaper gambling so it certainly fits a niche.

That said, even if someone wanted to do most of their play at NYNY and Excalibur was half the price, I'd still stay at Excalibur. There is a bridge connecting the 2 so its about a 2 minute walk.

We were at NYNY 2 weeks ago...stayed in one of the Ziggurat suites for 5 nites. Well worth the few extra dollars.
