Supersonic flights...

If airliners started offering supersonic flights at double the costs of standard airfare, would you fly supersonic?

 

With our air fare currently at $1700 from the UK, I don't think so.

 

For a direct flight I'd likely pay twice the fare for half the time in the air, but a lot of my lost time comes from connections.

Just for reference, if I really work it, I can get r/t for around $380 right now, but that means getting in at 10 p.m., and leaving around midnight, so I probably pay around $500 for shorter connections and flights that allow me to be abed when I should be abed.

I thought the problem before was so few airports allowing supersonic planes to land there, so you would still lose all that saved time in connections.

Supersonic isn't that much faster than what jets travel at nowadays.
But if you're talking hypersonic.....then I'm in for sure!

 

Lol...knew that one could only be appreciated by a certain generation!

 

It would be nice to have that option, myself prob not, turning a 2 hour flight into 45 min is not worth a couple hundred bucks, long transocean trip maybe.

 

Actually jets fly slower now than they did 20 or 30 years ago(to save fuel), used to be alot of planes would fly 560-580, now i see 530's alot. The planes can go fast, they just dont.

 

Firstly, £550 is a very cheap ticket from the UK. Likely US airways with a stopover. A decent flight schedule is likely to be £650.

Secondly, that £550 will be per person and thirdly they said 1700 dollars. Current exchange rate is 1.6 to the pound so (550 x 2) x 1.6 = 1760 dollars.

 

Try pricing BA from ABZ-LAS in May.

BTW my price was for one person, not two and with a connection at LHR.

 

The 550 quid I quoted is direct lgw-las

but it is middle of march - not the busiest time of year for them.

if you can't get to edi - then abz to las is 717 - but with 2 stops. (Delta) or BA for 907 with one stop.

you've been done with that 1,000+ fare.

but if you do have to travel on set dates - then you pay the price. a little flexibility can mean a big change in fares.

 

No offense, but you're American. Your comments are akin to me saying what a flight from America should cost to Europe.

It's not uncommon at all for a return fare to cost £1,000+ in a busy time from the UK to Vegas per person.

Just because you found one cheap flight doesn't mean it goes from a place that this guy wants, leaves at the right time, takes a suitably small amount of time or lands when required. Why are you intent on one upping them on everything? Why would anyone lie about what a flight costs?

Its not. then he was saying it is - from Aberdeen. but as it turns out that only in may.. on a Friday. on ba.

If he's happy to pay that for a schedule that suits him that's fine - its not my money - but don't make out like that's the normal price for flights. Its wrong.

no offense but just a glance at where my location may have given you a slight clue about if I knew wtf I was talking about.

I also arrange flights for my friends to vegas (as I did for next week) , relatives and for us returning to the uk. so, yeah, I have got a clue what I'm talking about (at least on this occasion). two hours after landing in vegas then all bets are off on that....
